The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 18: Field Training
Victoria didn't want to argue. "We'll know after we run."
Ethan waved her over. "I'll show you around first, then we'll race."
Eric chimed in, "Sure, we've run this track a bunch of times. Ethan, you might lose this time."
Ethan took Victoria around the track, showing her different cornering techniques and tips for handling various slopes and angles. It took about ten minutes.
Then, the race began.
Roy announced, "The current record is 1 minute 32 seconds, just set by Eric. Let's see if it can be broken this time."
Five go-karts zoomed off.
Ethan took the lead; his car was modified, and no one could beat him in a quick start.
Victoria realized Ethan had been toying with her earlier. When he went full speed, she couldn't keep up at all.
But not all was lost. There were several people, and Roy was behind her.
Victoria relaxed, not aiming for first place. She just wanted to finish within two minutes and not be last!
Eric and Nick were pushing hard to catch up. With their familiarity with the corners, they occasionally managed to catch up to Ethan.
But Ethan was also good at many corners.
For example, the Z-shaped corner in the last third of the track.
Nick was temporarily in the lead, approaching the Z-shaped corner with Ethan close behind, eyeing him fiercely.
In a moment of determination, Nick turned the steering wheel a bit more, trying to corner while blocking Ethan.
Unexpectedly, Ethan didn't back down, increased his power, and crashed straight into Nick, pinning him in the second corner. Using the rebound force, Ethan broke free and sped away.
Eric took the opportunity to overtake. "You two fight, so I'll take first place!"
Nick was furious. "Bullshit! I'll catch up soon, Ethan! Don't let him go!"
He quickly adjusted his direction to catch up, but in the competition among them, those few seconds of delay sealed his defeat.
Ethan looked at Eric ahead, a determined smile on his lips. 'You're the next.'
At this moment, Victoria also caught up. Nick didn't see her as a threat.
Unexpectedly, Victoria aimed at Nick's car and bumped into it.
Nick was stunned by the collision.
Victoria, with her experience in bumping cars, mastered the angle well and passed through a small corner without delay.
Roy saw the whole scene. "Nick, you underestimated Victoria; now you're last!"
Nick shouted angrily, "Victoria, is this what Ethan taught you? I won't give up!" He stomped on the gas.
It wasn't Victoria learning the bumping technique from Ethan; it was more like she influenced Ethan. He used to win with skill, not like today, bumping one after another.
In the end, Ethan won first place, but due to the collisions, he didn't break the record.
Eric followed closely. "Well, Ethan, you were cunning today."
Ethan smiled without saying a word.
Victoria came in third. "I'm third. Where's Nick? Oh, he's not here yet. Are you a turtle, Nick?"
Nick tried hard to catch up, but Roy was skilled and kept him in check.
In the end, Nick finished last.
He glared at Ethan, who glared back. "Alright, although it was unexpected, I accept my loss. I underestimated you this time. Victoria, you learn fast! No wonder you're the little princess of the Hamilton family."
The Hamilton family was full of talents!
In the past few days, the group had tried all the fun activities in Dreamlandia.
Victoria was a natural athlete with quick reflexes and a playful spirit, making her a hit with everyone.
On Sunday evening, Victoria headed home after a day of fun.
David was there too. "Looks like you had a blast, Victoria."
He'd noticed her bright smile over the past couple of days. She seemed happier hanging out with her friends than with him, which made him a bit jealous, though he kept it cool.
Victoria grinned, "Yeah, Dad. You're not working late today?"
Diana handed her a peeled green grape. "Victoria, open up."
Victoria took a bite. "Thanks, Mom!"
Diana said, "Your dad made a special trip home today. Your school has military training tomorrow, right? I heard it's all outdoor now, pretty tough. Do you want to ask the school to skip it?"
Nexus College was big on overall development, and the outdoor training was meant to toughen up the students' will and survival skills.
Usually, this military training was mandatory, but since David was the chief board member, an exception wasn't out of the question.
Victoria shook her head. "No need, don't underestimate me."
"But..." Diana was still worried, afraid Victoria would get worn out.
"Everyone has to do it, why should I be special?" Victoria explained. "Didn't Nick tell you? I'm in great shape."
Nick had indeed praised Victoria, saying she was much stronger than she looked, but Diana and David thought it was just mutual flattery.
"He did say that, and that you're quite competitive." Diana fed her another grape.
David added, "But you don't need to prove anything. You're the most beloved child of the Hamilton family."
Diana nodded. "Yes, Victoria, don't push yourself. If anything happens, let us know."
Victoria smiled. "Okay, I know. You two should rest early too, since it's rare for you to come back so early."
David couldn't help but pat her head. "You're so considerate; we'll listen to you."
The next day, with a high of 102.2°F, Nexus College kicked off military training!
By nine in the morning, the sun was already blazing. Freshmen in full camo uniforms listened to instructions on the field. "On the first day, our task is weighted running, target Sunrise Peak. Boys carry 22 pounds, girls 11 pounds."
A chorus of groans followed.
Although they were prepared for the strict military training at Nexus College, many didn't expect it to be this intense.
Victoria, however, was ready. She took the sandbags handed out by the instructor and tied them to her calves.
Her shoes had thick cushioned insoles, soft and shock-absorbing, perfect for running.
The chief instructor was stern. "Hurry up, we leave in ten minutes. The total distance is 6.2 miles. I'll give you three hours. If you don't reach Sunrise Peak by noon, no lunch for you! Even if you can't run, you better walk all the way there! Move out!"
The students started running in a scattered formation, with instructors on both sides ensuring safety and preventing anyone from cheating by using transportation.
Victoria remembered that Ella had taken advantage of this outdoor training, hiring a filming team to capture her looking beautiful and unruffled in the wilderness.
She marketed herself as the Campus Belle online and became an instant hit, her clean and ethereal look contrasting with everyone else's dusty and disheveled appearance.
