The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 25: Where Did the Snake Come From
After Mira got the sachet, she kept it close. The scent came out slowly, so nothing seemed off at first.
By evening, there were more mosquitoes, but just a few more than usual. She figured it was because she'd sweated a lot during training, making her all smelly and wet, which attracted the bugs. She even scrubbed extra hard when she washed up.
When she got back to the tent, Victoria was already lying down.
Training had been brutal these past few days, and everyone pretty much passed out right after washing up, too tired to do anything else.
Only Ella didn't have to train and was always looking to stir up trouble.
At this point, Mira had forgotten about the sachet and just wanted to crash. She put it and her clothes by the bed and turned off the light to sleep.
In the middle of the night, she woke up needing to pee. She unzipped the tent, went to the bathroom, and came back to sleep.
She hadn't fallen asleep yet when she felt something cold and slippery brush against her cheek.
In the dark, she didn't open her eyes and asked hoarsely, "Who's there?"
No answer. Only Victoria was in the tent, and she wasn't the type to play pranks.
Feeling weird, Mira turned on her phone's light. She saw a long, slender snake with orange stripes, its tongue flickering, showing off two sharp fangs.
Mira screamed in terror, lying stiff on the bed, paralyzed as she stared at the thumb-thick snake.
Victoria woke up from the noise and turned on the tent's main light, immediately spotting the snake next to Mira's face.
"Don't move!" Victoria's voice was calm but firm, "Don't provoke it."
The snake had bright colors and a slightly pointed head, clearly a venomous one. A bite from it would be not just painful but also deadly!
The snake seemed attracted by the sudden light and tilted its head towards Victoria.
Mira, trying to stay calm, asked in a trembling voice, "What should we do? Victoria, can you help call the instructor over?"
Victoria thought for a moment, saying, "No, it's too far. Close your eyes and don't be scared. It won't attack if you stay still."
"Okay." Mira closed her eyes in fear, trusting Victoria. The calmness in Victoria's voice gave her some comfort.
Their beds were just a few inches off the ground, with only a moisture-proof mat and an air mattress.
Victoria moved gently, reaching for the iron clothes fork by the bed. She quickly and accurately clamped the snake's head. The captured snake twisted violently and hissed.
She let out a sigh of relief, "Alright, Mira, you can open your eyes now."
Mira opened her eyes and saw the snake struggling on the ground. She jumped off the bed and ran to Victoria's side.
"Victoria, you're amazing! How did a snake get into the tent?"
Victoria replied, "I don't know. Maybe the zipper wasn't closed properly?"
Mira looked back at the tent door, recalling, "I went to the bathroom and zipped it up when I came back."
"Oh, my god! I didn't zip it up when I went out, thinking I'd be back soon. I'm sorry! But how did a snake get in so quickly? This mountain is too dangerous!" She was now fully awake.
"Hold it for a moment. I'll get something to kill the snake."
Mira reached out but quickly pulled back, "I don't dare."
Victoria's voice was cold, "Then I'll hold it, and you hit it. Aim for its heart."
Mira picked up a flashlight to hit the snake but weakly asked, "Where's its heart?"
"Forget it. You hold it. Use force and don't let the snake escape. It's very dangerous."
"Alright." Mira gathered her courage and took the clothes fork, pressing down with all her strength.
Victoria made sure she had a firm grip before letting go. She picked up a rock and repeatedly smashed it at the snake's heart area.
Soon, the snake's struggles weakened until it twitched a few times and stopped moving.
Victoria then went to the snake and smashed its head a few more times, flattening it. "Alright, you can let go now."
Mira finally dared to let go. Her palms had nail marks from gripping the fork so tightly.
"Thank you, Victoria." She said with a sob, "If it weren't for you, I would have been in danger today."
However, Victoria was lost in thought. It was strange. The training base should have been cleared of such dangerous animals. Unless there was something in the tent that attracted it!
Mira's bed had a pile of clothes, and amidst the mess from the snake's struggle, a corner of the yellow sachet was exposed.
Victoria moved the clothes aside, revealing the sachet, which was the one Ella had tried to give her earlier.
"How did this sachet get here?" Victoria asked Mira.
Mira didn't understand, "Ella said she was worried about your sleep and asked me to give it to you. I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you."
Victoria continued, "Why was everything fine the past few days, and now, out of nowhere, there's a snake? Don't you think that's a bit odd?"
"I thought I was just unlucky today. I even got bitten by bugs," Mira suddenly remembered. When she woke up, the snake seemed to be coiled around the clothes.
"Victoria! Do you mean this sachet attracted the snake?" Mira's eyes widened in disbelief.
Victoria thought about her past life. It seemed she was lucky then, only attracting some mosquitoes. Ella's sachet didn't just attract small insects; it even attracted snakes!
It turned out that in this life, every time Ella tried to frame Victoria, she failed and ended up embarrassing herself. So this time, the sachet was more effective. She wanted Victoria dead!
"It's easy to prove. I'll throw this sachet away! I didn't expect Ella to be so kind on the surface but so malicious inside!"
Mira realized that her unusual attraction to bugs and the snake was likely due to the sachet.
"Victoria, no wonder you didn't want it, and she insisted on giving it to me! She had bad intentions." Mira said angrily.
Victoria said, "Why throw it away? Return it to its owner."
Mira laughed, "You're right, Victoria. She scared me, so I'll scare her back. I'll throw the sachet and the dead snake at her tent door."
"Do you need help?" Victoria saw that Mira was still a bit scared and offered to help. After all, this was between her and Ella, and Mira was innocently dragged into it.
Mira gritted her teeth, "No, I can do it. You already saved me today. Besides, I accepted the sachet, so I should return it."
She gathered her courage and threw the dead snake and sachet at Ella's tent. Soon, a swarm of bugs gathered around Ella's tent.
No surprise, the sachet attracted snakes and bugs!
Mira hadn't wronged Ella, yet Ella tried to harm her. How malicious!
