The Inescapable Celibate Heir Chapter 110: The Unexpected Man
During the drawing of lots, Dennis unexpectedly showed up.
Turns out, he was also a member of the Chess Association. He and Leon knew each other from playing chess together occasionally.
When Ella saw Dennis, she excitedly ran over, her eyes sparkling and her voice sweet as honey. "Dennis, you're in the Chess Association too? No way! I've been thinking about joining."
She pretended to be surprised, but she had known all along that Dennis would be there today. It was one of the reasons she had taken up chess in the first place.
Dennis nodded slightly and handed her a lot, his tone polite. "Good luck," he said, then gestured with his eyes for her to move along so others could have their turn.
Ella reluctantly took the lot and walked away, turning back to say, "Dennis, I've been working really hard on my chess. I hope one day you can give me some pointers."
Dennis glanced at her but said nothing.
Ella sat not far away, watching Dennis at work. Even if it wasn't about competing with Victoria, Dennis was indeed a charming person.
He was gentle and courteous, every move reflecting his well-bred upbringing. Many girls at Nexus College liked him, and the more Ella looked at him, the more she wanted his favor.
Jasmine nudged her with a smile and whispered in her ear, "Do you like Dennis?"
Ella blushed and whispered back, "Don't say that. I just think Dennis is great."
She glanced back at Dennis, only to see Victoria stepping up to draw a lot. Dennis's smile seemed to grow a bit wider.
Ella's face twisted for a moment. 'Why does Dennis smile so nicely at her?'
Dennis was genuinely surprised to see Victoria. "You play chess too?" he asked.
Victoria replied coolly, "A little." She hadn't expected to see Dennis here.
It seemed inevitable that Ella and Dennis would end up together in the previous life.
They were in the Snooker Club at school and played chess together outside of it—a perfect match.
Dennis wanted to say more, but Victoria impatiently tapped the table. "Where's my lot?"
Dennis hesitated for a moment before handing her the lot box. Victoria drew a number—seven.
Ella was glaring at their interaction when someone kicked her foot. She looked up, ready to scold, but shut her mouth when she saw the man's face.
He had a broad face, large ears, and a dirty stubble. When he smiled, he revealed yellow teeth, giving off a sleazy vibe.
He insincerely said, "Sorry," but his eyes carried a hint of threat. Ella knew this man. She hurriedly said, "It's fine."
Jasmine gave the man a disdainful look, ready to curse him out, but Ella quickly grabbed her hand and asked, "Where's Tony? I haven't seen him for a while."
Jasmine stopped focusing on the man and answered, "He said his stomach was upset and went to the bathroom. He'll be back before the match starts. You know, Roy and his friends have been picking on him at school, and he's been feeling unwell lately. I hope it doesn't affect his game."
Ella nodded absentmindedly, glancing around nervously. She wasn't really concerned about Tony; she just didn't want Jasmine to clash with that man.
She feared he might reveal things that would ruin her image in front of Jasmine and Dennis.
After a while, Ella said she needed to use the restroom. Jasmine offered to go with her, but Ella declined.
She went outside alone and saw Bodhi waiting in a corner. Yes, this Bodhi was the Online Troll she had previously contacted.
She was worried he might expose her for hiring trolls to cheat in the Campus Queen vote, so she was a bit anxious.
The chess Association had two floors, with the competition area on the first floor and the second floor mostly empty.
Ella signaled Bodhi to go to a corner on the second floor to talk.
They went upstairs one after the other. Bodhi rubbed his fingers together and smiled. "Ella, can you lend me some money?"
After taking on Ella's job last time, he was reported shortly after, taken by the police for questioning for half a day, and fined.
His business of helping with cheating votes was over, and he was looking for ways to make money.
Seeing Ella at the chess association today was a stroke of luck.
From their previous interaction, he knew Ella was wealthy and vain. She wouldn't want to be seen with someone like him in front of her friends, so he figured he could get some money from her.
Ella's face turned cold. "Why should I give you money? We settled our accounts before."
Bodhi lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and blew the smoke in Ella's face. "Ella, you're a respectable person. You wouldn't want to lose face in front of so many people, right?"
He continued, "I don't care about anything, but if you don't give me money, I'll go downstairs and have a chat with your friends."
Ella bit her lip, glaring at him. She hated being threatened but didn't want to get entangled with Bodhi.
After thinking for a moment, she asked, "How much do you want?"
Bodhi's murky eyes lit up. "Not much, just thirty thousand dollars."
That would be enough for him to live comfortably for a few months.
Ella was furious. "Why don't you just rob a bank?"
She had been spending a lot of money hanging out with Jasmine, and she only had a hundred thousand dollars left for the month.
Giving Bodhi thirty thousand would leave her with barely enough for herself.
