Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 105
The car pulled up right in front of Apex Tower.
Apex Tower was over sixty stories high, practically touching the clouds. It was one of the iconic buildings in Starlight City, smack in the middle of a bustling area where every inch of land was worth a fortune. Summit Innovations Group had four floors in this tower, which was pretty impressive.
As I got to the entrance, it was peak morning rush hour, and people were streaming in and out. Just as I was about to head inside, a group of girls nearby suddenly got all excited, their energy buzzing.
Following their gazes, I saw a Rolls-Royce pull up. The driver hopped out and opened the back door. The first thing I noticed was a pair of custom-polished leather shoes, followed by long, straight legs in tailored suit pants.
Then, the owner of those legs stepped out. Christopher, with his sharp eyebrows and deep eyes, had this cool, detached vibe. He walked past us without a glance, like he was in his own world.
At that moment, he seemed like someone from another realm—authoritative, commanding, and untouchable. It made me wonder if I really knew him at all.
"That's Mr. Collins, the CEO of Summit Innovations Group. We're lucky to see him today."
"Don't get your hopes up. A guy that handsome, rich, and refined probably already has a girlfriend."
"Really? I heard Mr. Collins is single. No women around him. Maybe he doesn't like women?"
"Come on, we're not dreaming of being Cinderella. Just looking at his face is enough. And with a body like that, who cares if he likes men or women? I'd still be into him."
"Yeah, he's so handsome, it doesn't matter."
Listening to their chatter, I couldn't help but feel out of touch with society. Were young women always this bold? And Christopher liking men? I glanced at his face, remembering his words about unrequited love.
So many people liked him; if he wanted to date, he could have any girl he wanted. His self-discipline and high standards were obvious.
I followed the girls inside and went to the reception desk to check in. The building required a key card to access different floors, and as a job applicant, I needed to register.
While waiting for the receptionist to verify my information, I saw Christopher standing by the private elevator, his assistant already briefing him on work. He was indeed a busy man.
My gaze must have been too obvious because he looked up and our eyes met. Feeling a bit awkward, I raised my hand to greet him with a smile. But before I could, he had already looked away and stepped into the elevator, leaving my hand hanging in mid-air. The moment felt frozen with embarrassment.
"Ms. Turner, Summit Innovations Group has been notified. Please wait a moment," the receptionist said, breaking the awkwardness. Still, I felt a bit uneasy.
I understood why Christopher acted that way. If he had acknowledged my greeting, I would have become the subject of gossip among those girls. I didn't want that kind of attention before even starting at the company. But it still stung to be ignored by someone who had always been kind to me.
Soon, someone from HR came to escort me to my interview at Summit Innovations Group. Just then, I received a message from Christopher, offering words of encouragement. Simple as they were, they lifted my spirits, and I couldn't help but send a playful emoji in response.
He was right; I tended to overthink and stress myself out. The HR lady was warm and welcoming, a stark contrast to my previous interview experience. She even shared some details I needed to know.
"Ms. Ellis recommended your resume. After reviewing it, we immediately saw you were a perfect fit for the position we need to fill. We hope you can join us. The interview process has three rounds. The first is a written test. The second involves interviews with several directors, including HR, investment, and R&D, as we're developing a new project with overseas clients. Your resume shows you're well-suited for this role. The third round is with Mr. Collins himself. Good luck, Ms. Turner. If you pass the second round, you'll get to meet the impressive Mr. Collins."
I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm for Christopher, similar to the girls downstairs. He had unknowingly captured another heart. I wondered if he knew, but even if he did, he'd probably just respond with a blank expression.
"Thank you. I'll do my best to make it to the third round and meet the impressive Mr. Collins."
My response made her laugh, her ears turning slightly red. Despite my preparation, I was still nervous about the interview. But her words boosted my confidence, and I smiled brightly in gratitude.
The HR lady led me to the interview room and handed me the written test. A quick glance at the questions reassured me—they were straightforward, and I felt confident about passing the initial round.
As expected, I finished quickly, and the review process didn't take long. I passed the first round and was taken to another room for the second round of interviews.
Three interviewers were already seated, ready to begin.
