Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 319
Theodosia glared at Paula, who was laughing like she didn't have a care in the world.
It was obvious she was mocking her.
Theodosia was livid. "What's so funny?"
"With your acting skills, you think you're gonna win an award? Maybe the Golden Raspberries Award? That's the only thing you've got a shot at. I can't wait to congratulate you on that!"
The Golden Raspberries Award, or the Razzies, was a parody award show that "honored" the worst in cinematic achievements.
Theodosia's face turned beet red. "You"re just jealous! I know you're faking it. I can totally do well. I work hard, and I'm gorgeous!"
Paula, hearing Theodosia's self-praise, stretched her neck and flaunted her own face.
"Wanna compare? I don't even need to brag about my looks. You think you're cut out for showbiz? You're a joke!" Paula's words were sharp and cutting.
She knew exactly how to hit Theodosia where it hurt.
"You…" Theodosia was no match for Paula. She gritted her teeth, pointing at Paula's nose, but couldn't get a word out.
Paula patted Theodosia's cheek. "You know your own acting skills. Don't kid yourself. And a word of advice: don't let someone sell you out and then thank them for it."
Theodosia suddenly flaunting all those luxurious items, it was obvious she had a sugar benefactor. Especially with her acting skills, getting into a big director's film clearly meant she had connections.
No wonder people were suspicious!
Faye's move was clever, almost like killing with kindness.
I shared my thoughts with Paula.
"You've really improved. I thought the same thing," Paula agreed with me.
Then she remembered something and warned me, "Mrs. Collins might come looking for you next. Be prepared."
"Seriously?" I was frustrated.
I really didn't want to deal with Faye.
"Don't worry about her. Just handle it casually, but stay safe. If you feel uneasy, contact me or Mr. Collins immediately. Don't put yourself in danger!"
"I got it."
I suspected Faye was going to use Theodosia against me.
It seemed Paula really knew that Christopher liked me, which was why she could predict Faye's next move.
All I could do was wait.
But before Faye could find me, the DNA test results came in.
Along with the bone marrow match results.
Quinlan sent the DNA results directly to me.
She was surprised. "I can't believe Marlowe and Hayes aren't related."
I listened to Quinlan while checking the results.
"Why do you think that is?" Quinlan couldn't help but wonder.
I knew what she meant.
Given how selfish Marlowe was, why would she take Hayes out of the orphanage and spend money to care for him?
I said, "We'll need to investigate further. Hayes was probably adopted by Marlowe's parents from the orphanage. We'll have to start there."
Clearly, Quinlan had started investigating after seeing the results.
Quinlan cared about Hayes and wanted to know the truth.
I was doing it for AutoForge Workshop and Christopher. Plus, once someone knew something like this, it was hard not to be curious about the details.
"I'm heading to the orphanage. Meet me there!" I decided to check it out myself and planned to meet Quinlan at the orphanage.
When Quinlan saw me, she knew about my injury and asked, "How's your wrist doing?"
"It's fine, just a minor injury. Almost healed." After some small talk, we got down to business.
"I've already spoken to the director, Ondine. We can go straight to her office." Quinlan had called ahead.
Since Quinlan knew Hayes had stayed at this orphanage, she had volunteered here and brought Hayes along.
Hayes had spent a significant amount of time here. Being a sensitive person, he gradually became familiar with the place again and started to improve.
So Quinlan visited more often and got to know the director and staff well.
Ondine greeted us warmly.
She was a kind, elderly lady with a smile that made one feel at ease.
Only someone like her could take care of so many children.
Especially since many of the kids had various challenges and needed extra patience and love.
"Good thing you called ahead, Quinlan. I wouldn't have been here this afternoon otherwise," Ondine said with a smile.
I felt a bit guilty. "Sorry for the trouble."
"It's no trouble. You're good people. I enjoy spending time with you," Ondine said.
"Thank you, Ondine," Quinlan and I said in unison.
After we sat down, Ondine asked, "You mentioned on the phone that this is about Hayes and Marlowe. What's going on?"
"Well, we're investigating something and need their orphanage records," Quinlan said directly.
Ondine frowned. "Can I ask why?"
I glanced at Quinlan and nodded.
Quinlan didn't hold back.
Ondine was shocked but then said firmly, "They're definitely siblings. That's…"
She stopped, as if there was something she couldn't say.
But she was certain they were related by blood.
She explained, "I'm so sure because of their rare blood type. Both have RH-negative blood. You know how rare that is."
How could they not be siblings with the same rare blood type?
They were brought to the orphanage together as siblings.
Ondine's mention of the blood type reminded me of something.
"But we tested Hayes's blood type. He's A-positive, not the rare type you mentioned!" I shared our findings and asked, "Ondine, could you have forgotten or made a mistake because it's been so long?"
Ondine wasn't offended by my question.
She shook her head, very sure. "Hayes was injured as a child and needed a blood transfusion. Marlowe donated because of their rare blood type. It was a life-or-death situation. I can't forget that. Siblings shouldn't donate to each other, but there was no other choice. Thankfully, there were no complications."
Such events were hard to forget.
"And because of their rare blood type and lack of parental protection, we made sure everyone involved promised not to disclose it." Ondine was truly caring and thoughtful.
But we had tested Hayes multiple times. There couldn't be a mistake.
What were we missing?
I said, "Hold on, I'll ask an expert!"
