Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 247
When I heard Hayes was in trouble, my heart sank.
"What happened to him?" I asked, worried. How could things go wrong just as he started learning from Magnus?
"Blair called. Hayes lost control during a lesson with Magnus. He broke a lot of stuff and is still really agitated," Christopher explained.
"It can't be something Magnus said. I trust him!" I felt a pit in my stomach but still stood by Magnus.
Christopher nodded. "We don't know the details yet, so don't stress too much. Hayes has a condition. Let's head to Evergreen Hospital and see my friend, who's an expert in this field. Maybe he can figure out what's wrong."
I nodded and focused on driving to Evergreen Hospital. Christopher had already contacted the doctor on the way because Blair couldn't control Hayes, and the ambulance hadn't arrived yet.
As soon as we reached the hospital entrance, a doctor in uniform, about Christopher's age and with a scholarly look, walked towards our car with a medical bag.
The first thing he said when he got in was, "Why'd you bring a woman along, Christopher? What's going on?"
I blushed and was about to explain, "Hi, I'm Mr. Collins'..."
Christopher cut me off, "Since when did you become a gossiping doctor? Your professionalism must be lacking. I might have to reconsider investing in your hospital."
Their banter made it clear they were very familiar with each other. It also hinted that this doctor was a significant figure in the hospital, possibly a shareholder.
The doctor quickly changed his tone, "If I weren't reliable, you wouldn't call me first to treat Hayes. Investment is necessary, and I am definitely reliable."
Christopher snorted and then introduced him to me, "This is Dr. Alaric Kingsley from Evergreen Hospital."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Kingsley. I'm Melinda, Mr. Collins' secretary," I said quickly, not wanting any misunderstandings since he was a friend of Christopher.
Alaric looked me over, "Secretary? A woman? I thought it was Paxton. When did that change?"
Christopher gave Alaric a brief glance, "He had family matters to attend to. There's a lot you don't know. He's been away from the company for a long time."
Alaric seemed genuinely surprised and a bit disappointed, as if he missed out on some gossip. The two continued their banter, not stopping for a moment.
Their sharp tongues made it clear why they were friends. I hadn't seen Christopher this sharp-tongued in a long time, and Alaric easily brought it out in him.
Fortunately, they got down to business after catching up. Christopher asked, "Hayes has been relatively stable. What could have triggered such a sudden loss of control?"
Christopher was clearly worried about Hayes and eager to understand his condition.
"Without seeing him, it's hard to say. It could be external factors, internal physical issues, or both. External factors depend on what might have triggered him, which varies from person to person. Internal factors could include changes in his condition or medication. But one thing is clear: he's dangerous when he's out of control," Alaric explained concisely.
His explanation was clear enough for someone like me, who didn't understand medicine, to grasp. With Alaric's expertise, I hoped Hayes would be okay.
The drive was smooth, and we quickly arrived at Hayes' apartment complex. We rushed to his apartment, where the scene shocked me.
The place was a mess, and Hayes, usually quiet and well-behaved, looked disheveled. His eyes, usually bright and clear, were bloodshot, and he seemed like a crazed lion.
Blair, pale and disheveled, stood nearby, clearly having suffered. Even those who usually cared for Hayes had been hurt by him.
Quinlan had just arrived and wanted to approach Hayes, but it was good she didn't. It could have made things worse. Her eyes were red with worry.
"Melinda, what do we do?" Quinlan's voice was almost breaking.
"We're here. Don't worry," I reassured her, patting her shoulder.
Quinlan relaxed a bit. I wanted to get closer, but Christopher pulled me back, warning, "Don't get too close. Hayes doesn't recognize anyone right now. It's dangerous."
I nodded, not wanting to cause more trouble. Alaric stepped forward to assess Hayes' condition, but Hayes became more agitated with the unfamiliar presence and tried to run.
"We need to sedate him and take him to the hospital for further examination," Alaric said urgently.
Christopher and Alaric exchanged a look and nodded. They moved together to restrain Hayes, who struggled like a frightened animal.
Blair and Quinlan, deeply concerned, pleaded, "Be gentle. Don't hurt him."
Alaric, understanding their concern, focused on Hayes. Christopher, strong as he was, found it challenging to control Hayes, who was weak but frenzied.
Alaric managed to administer a sedative, but it took time to take effect. Christopher almost lost control when he eased his grip slightly.
Magnus and Quinlan, disregarding their safety, helped hold Hayes down. Quinlan even got injured in the process. Hayes paused momentarily but then became agitated again.
With combined efforts and the sedative taking effect, Hayes gradually calmed down and fell asleep. They moved him to a room, waiting for the ambulance.
I took a moment to calm myself, leaning against a cabinet. My foot hit something, and I saw scattered pills on the floor. Memories of Lawrence drugging me, causing my miscarriage, and nearly driving me insane flooded back.
I felt a surge of anger and clenched my fists, overwhelmed by the emotions.
