"You think saying that will scare me?" Clara's voice was defiant, her eyes filled with hatred, yet she still dared to talk back to me like that.

I scoffed, "Oh really? Wanna test that theory?"

Clara sneered, "You think someone like you deserves to meet my family?"

I found Clara's arrogance laughable. "What century are you living in? You still think your family's all that? If they raised someone like you, no matter how powerful they are, they're probably on the brink of ruin."

"Shut up!" Clara's face twisted in anger as she glared at me. "Close that filthy mouth of yours. The Simpson family isn't some ordinary household like yours. We could never fall apart. Do you really think using Lawrence against me will work?"

She continued, "You're as naive and foolish as ever. Just because you managed to deceive Lawrence, you think he can bring me down? Impossible. I haven't done anything, and you have no evidence to convict me. It's unfair that someone as stupid as you gets a warm family and a carefree childhood. Everything you have should have been mine."

I couldn't help but laugh at Clara. She was like a child, desperately doing anything to get attention because she didn't get what she wanted.

I did laugh. "Clara, do you really think those things belong to you? Deep down, you know better than anyone that you and your mother are just thieves. A mistress, yet you have the nerve to claim everything is yours. Isn't that ridiculous? Actually, I think you're the real fool. You've turned yourself into this mess and still act all high and mighty. You're obsessed with things, including my dad's love, right? But he is dead. What's the point now?"

"What are you laughing at? You're the fool, not me! Yes, Kyle is dead, but you're still alive, aren't you? I want to see you suffer, to go through everything my mother and I went through when Kyle abandoned us. You will experience it all."

Clara's laugh was venomous, filled with malice. She even tried to humiliate me further. "The unloved one is the mistress. You've seen the photos. Kyle truly loved my mother. You and your mother never had Kyle's real love. So, everything your family has, you owe us. Melinda, just wait. As long as I'm around, you won't have a single peaceful day. I will be your eternal nightmare."

She was hysterical, drawing suspicious glances from the people around us.

Some couldn't help but point fingers at Clara.

"Who is this woman? She looks decent but turns out to be a mistress. Saying the unloved one is the mistress, then why get a marriage certificate? People who say things like that are either brainless or truly malicious and selfish."

"If I had a daughter like that, I'd beat her to death or kick her out."

"Didn't you hear? It's a family trait. Her mother was a mistress too."

"Having someone like that eating with us is disgusting. I'm done eating."

The murmurs around us grew louder.

Clara's face darkened, her eyes shooting daggers at the people talking, her fists clenched tightly.

"Do you hear that? With your status, you should be hiding, not strutting around in front of me. You're like a ghost that won't go away, making everyone sick and tired." I looked at Clara with disdain.

Clara's eyes grew even more venomous. She screamed in rage, "Shut up, all of you! You don't understand anything, so stop judging me from your moral high ground. I'm not wrong. And Melinda, you bitch, I won't let you off."

She was so agitated that she knocked a glass off the table, shattering it on the floor. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked terrifying, like she could go berserk at any moment.

She spotted a glass of water in a waiter's hand and grabbed it, ready to pour it on me.

"Ms. Simpson, calm down!" Brianna, who had been silent beside Clara, quickly grabbed her wrist, trying to stop her.

Brianna's intervention gave me time to react. I stepped back just in time, and the water spilled onto the floor.

My face turned cold. If I hadn't reacted quickly, Clara would have disfigured me.

I didn't hesitate to grab a glass of water from a nearby table and threw it in Clara's face. "Are you awake now? If you want to go crazy, do it somewhere else. This is a public place where people are eating."

Water dripped down Clara's face, making her look pathetic. She wiped her face and cursed, "You bitch, how dare you throw water at me."

Brianna tried to calm Clara down. "Ms. Simpson, don't be impulsive. If the Simpson family finds out about this, it won't be good for you. Let's go."

"Get lost! You ungrateful wretch. If it weren't for you stopping me, Melinda's face would be ruined by now. How dare you betray me for them after all I've done for you." Clara pushed Brianna away angrily.

Brianna stumbled, almost crashing into a waiter carrying a hot pot.

I quickly grabbed her arm to steady her. She looked pale and nodded at me in gratitude.

Clara, seeing this, looked even more furious. "You think you can win over the people around me with such cheap tricks."

She lunged at me again. "Today, I'll teach you a lesson. With your status, how dare you challenge me."

Just as Clara's nails were about to scratch my face, Paula suddenly appeared. She yanked Clara's hand away and slapped her, pushing her back and shielding me.

Not far from Paula stood a staff member, dressed in a manager's uniform.

Clara screamed from the slap. But she only had Brianna with her, who seemed unable to help.

We had two people on our side, and with Paula's fighting skills, Clara, who had lived a pampered life, was no match.

Clara wasn't completely stupid. Despite her hatred, she turned her anger towards the manager. "How can you let someone like her eat here? If the Simpson family buys this place, you'll all be out of a job."

Clara tried to threaten the manager into helping her, hoping to get me and Paula kicked out.
