Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 219

I widened my eyes, almost blurting out a question about the blueprints, but I swallowed my words.

Before I could say anything, the person across from me, clearly flustered, quickly snatched the blueprints from my hand.

"Do you think you can just look at these? As Christopher's secretary, you should know that confidential information isn't for just anyone to see. You really have no manners, not even watching where you're going!"

As always, her attitude towards me was extremely harsh.

Marlowe and I seemed to be natural enemies; her words were always sharp.

Unlike Christopher, who was direct but never malicious, Marlowe's comments were always filled with hostility and malice when directed at me.

I wanted to confirm if she had drawn the blueprints herself, so I didn't argue back.

Instead, I asked, "Did you draw these?"

"If they're not mine, are they yours? You must be out of your mind, not even doing your job as a secretary properly. But then again, with your brain, you wouldn't understand these things anyway. You know exactly what you rely on!" Marlowe replied coldly, quickly putting the blueprints away.

When I asked that question, I was watching Marlowe's reaction closely.

I couldn't miss any subtle clues.

Normally, if she had drawn them, she would have said something like, "It was me who drew it." But she only said they were hers, which meant there was another possibility: Gearhead must be someone close to her.

Besides, Gearhead's contact email was mine.

If Marlowe was Gearhead, she wouldn't have reacted that way when I mentioned the blueprints.

Given our current relationship, if I asked her directly about the blueprints, she definitely wouldn't tell the truth. She might even throw out a smokescreen and mock me.

But now, with the blueprint model about to go into mass production, this was a critical matter. Who she was meeting with the blueprints could greatly impact AutoForge Workshop's next steps.

Thinking of this, I quietly followed her after she walked a short distance away.

It was my first time tailing someone, and I was nervous, afraid of being discovered.

At one point, Marlowe turned around, but luckily, I hid quickly and wasn't seen.

When I saw Marlowe enter a private room, I stopped at the door, trying to peek inside, but the door was closed. I couldn't see who she was meeting.

I could only linger at the door, pondering how to find out who Marlowe was meeting without being noticed.

"Melinda, since when did you start eavesdropping?"

Just as I was pressing my ear to the door, trying to catch a glimpse inside, someone slapped my butt, startling me so much I almost screamed. Thankfully, I reacted quickly, covering my mouth to stifle the sound, afraid of alerting the people inside.

I turned around and glared at the person who slapped me. From the voice, I already knew who it was.

But the scare made me look at her with a hint of resentment.

"Melinda, if you keep looking at me like that, I'll really think I did something unforgivable," Paula said, looking at me with a face full of grievance.

My anger dissipated.

But this wasn't the place to talk, so I quickly pulled her along. "Let's go to your private room first."

Paula let me lead her to the private room, and a waiter immediately brought out the dishes.

After the waiter left, Paula looked at me. "So, what's up? You look like you're about to catch someone red-handed. Is Christopher in there?"

"Don't be ridiculous. If it were Christopher, I wouldn't need to sneak around like this!" I quickly retorted.

Then I added, "But it does have something to do with him. It's about Marlowe, the woman he's interested in."

"What's going on? Did something happen? I heard Christopher's been going on a lot of dates with girls from well-matched families recently. Did Marlowe find out and decide to move on?"

Paula, being well-connected, knew about these things even though I hadn't mentioned the dates to her.

"Just keep this to yourself. Mr. Collins isn't really interested in those dates. But I doubt Marlowe knows about them. She's not part of your circle. And with Christopher's abilities, if he didn't want Marlowe to misunderstand, he would have ways to keep her from hearing about it."

Paula nodded. "That's true. You've learned a lot from being around Christopher. Your analysis is spot on. So, what's the issue?"

The blueprints were weighing on my mind, so I couldn't help but share my concerns. "I just want to see who she's meeting. I don't know who it is, but this place isn't cheap. She wouldn't choose it lightly."

Paula gave me a deep look. "You're really going all out for Christopher's sake. It's rare to see such dedication from an employee. I'll help you out."

"What?" I didn't quite understand what Paula meant.

Paula winked mischievously and made a phone call. Shortly after, she hung up.

"It's Jonathan Morris, the head of Vanguard Motors, Inc!" She raised an eyebrow, looking a bit proud. "You know, my family has investments in many industries, and we happen to have a small stake in this hotel, so I asked the manager."

She didn't need to say more; I understood.

But hearing it was Vanguard Motors, Inc, I thought of the blueprints and immediately connected the dots. My face changed.

This was bad!

I had no appetite for the meal anymore.

When Christopher agreed to Gearhead's proposal, I had expressed concerns, fearing it was a smokescreen from Vanguard Motors, Inc to sabotage AutoForge Workshop. Now, the blueprints might end up in Jonathan's hands, which would be a huge setback and loss for the entire company, including Christopher's efforts.

"Paula, I'm sorry, but this is an emergency. I can't stay for the meal. I'll make it up to you next time!"

The food was already served, and Paula had come all this way, but I couldn't stay. I felt guilty, but I couldn't waste any time. Marlowe might have already sealed the deal with Jonathan, so I had to act fast.

Paula, being a good friend, probably noticed my rare panicked expression. As a professional herself, she understood the need for quick responses in emergencies.

She waved it off, not minding at all. "Of course, but you owe me at least two meals. Don't feel guilty. I'll call a handsome guy to keep me company."

If it were any other time, I would have teased her about possibly having a new romance.

But now, I had no time for that and hurriedly left.
