From what Christopher said, it seemed like he suspected something shady about what happened back then. If we really uncovered something, it could finally give Jason the closure he needed. And Marlowe was probably bracing herself for Jason's wrath.

Christopher explained, "Marlowe approached me about the agreement. After she lost her phone, she tested the waters with me. I wanted to see what she was up to, so when she asked about the evidence from that phone, I went along and said I had it. Marlowe's attitude changed from cold to pleading, offering me anything I wanted, including Hayes' lifelong freedom, if I destroyed the evidence."

Marlowe was indeed a master manipulator. She knew what Christopher valued and used it as bait. She even staged it so Christopher wouldn't suspect her. If it weren't for the twist of fate with Jason getting the evidence, Marlowe's plan might have worked.

Jason brought the evidence to Christopher, hoping he wouldn't make things difficult for Marlowe.

Jason was disappointed with the outcome. Marlowe had ulterior motives. One thing that didn't disappoint Christopher was that Jason prepared a new contract to replace Marlowe's. Marlowe was too overconfident. Jason's unconditional indulgence made her lower her guard, so she didn't thoroughly check the contract Jason swapped.

Of course, the most important factor was Christopher's sharp mind. No wonder Paula always praised Christopher. His meticulous thinking, cautious approach, and steady demeanor were admirable.

I looked at Christopher with admiration, lost in my thoughts, not realizing he had noticed. He smiled and lightly coughed, teasing, "Melinda, has anyone ever told you not to look at a man like that?"

His words snapped me back to reality, and my face turned red. I had been staring at Christopher like that, and he noticed. How embarrassing.

Christopher's gaze fell on my wrist. "Don't overwork yourself. Your hand needs rest. You can delegate most of the work to Vincent and Glenn."

"No need, my hand is fine now." I quickly refused.

I felt a bit guilty. My injury had already burdened Vincent and Glenn with my work. Now that I was back, I didn't want to add to their workload, especially since I was still getting paid.

I found an excuse and quickly left the office. Knowing I liked Christopher, and with his strong personal charm, I couldn't resist. I feared staying longer would turn me into another Marlowe.

Even though I knew I could learn a lot from Christopher, I couldn't stay. I planned to start sending out resumes online.

"How did you know I had good news?" I asked, surprised.

Indeed, anything related to Christopher made me unable to hide my emotions, even over the phone. If I stayed around Christopher, he'd eventually notice, and we might not even remain friends.

I was more determined to resign. But since Paula asked, I could share other good news to distract her.

"There is good news. Marlowe approached Mr. Collins for an agreement, but he didn't sign her prepared contract!" I explained the whole situation to Paula.

"Marlowe is so calculating, no wonder I disliked her at first sight!" Paula said with disdain.

Then she cheered up. "Don't worry, the evidence is solid, and Marlowe confessed. The results should come out soon. Marlowe's actions backfired, and she defamed Christopher. With his legal team, she won't get off lightly."
