Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 211
After wrapping up my chat with Christopher, I left his office and gave Faye a call.
Faye was thrilled to see my change in attitude and even took the lead in asking about the time and place for the blind date.
"Ms. Turner, your efficiency is impressive. You haven't let me down. You've done a great job, and I'll make sure to reward you generously."
Faye's tone now had the authority of someone in a higher position.
She mentioned giving me a gift, but it felt more like a favor.
I tried to decline politely, "There's no need, Mrs. Collins. I don't really need anything."
But Faye, though polite, was insistent, and I could sense her strong will through her words.
Remembering Christopher's advice, I hesitated for a moment before agreeing, "Alright."
She probably thought that by giving me something and me accepting it, I would be indebted to her, ensuring that I would work diligently and also giving her leverage over me.
Faye was indeed formidable.
Initially, she had been warm and approachable to lower my defenses. Now, this might be her true self, and it was no surprise that she and her son shared the same commanding presence.
The next day at noon, I had already discussed with Faye the meeting place, the manner of appearance, and the identity of the other party.
When it was time for lunch, Christopher, Vincent, and I arrived at the restaurant on the fifth floor of the building.
To keep things natural and to avoid the blind date appearing too abrupt, we chose a table by the window in the main hall.
Vincent was unaware of this arrangement, as it was something Christopher and I had planned together.
As we walked into the restaurant side by side, Vincent lowered his voice and asked in my ear, "What's going on? How'd you get Mr. Collins to come here for lunch?"
For someone as efficient as Christopher, he wouldn't usually waste much time on lunch during work hours. More often than not, he would eat at the company's cafeteria.
I raised an eyebrow mysteriously, "Take a guess."
Vincent gave me a look that said, "Don't make this difficult for me."
As we were about to sit down, I whispered, "There's a beauty here!"
Vincent was taken aback by my answer and clearly didn't believe it. But seeing the sincerity in my eyes, he became a bit suspicious.
We sat down, with me across from Vincent and Christopher next to him. The seat opposite Christopher was left empty, ready for the blind date to arrive and sit face-to-face with him.
This arrangement wouldn't seem staged, and Faye would likely think I had put in a lot of effort.
While I was talking to Vincent, it seemed like I was neglecting Christopher, who cleared his throat, seemingly to remind us of his presence.
Wherever Christopher went, he drew attention, and our table was no exception, with curious glances coming our way.
Soon, a tall girl with voluminous curls and a fitted dress approached our table.
She politely asked, "Excuse me, I'm new here and not very familiar with the place. I didn't have time to make a reservation, and there are no available seats. Would it be possible to share a table?"
They said beauties had similarities. This girl had large, double-lidded eyes and was truly beautiful, with well-maintained hair that looked stunning.
Her smile was sweet and genuine, without a hint of pretense.
I responded, "I'm sorry, but that's not for me to decide. You'll have to ask my boss."
As I said this, I winked at Christopher, silently reminding him that this was his blind date.
Mabel Simpson, the heir to the Simpson Group, which was primarily involved in the new energy industry. The company's growth was well-known, even to those not familiar with the field. The Simpson Group was thriving.
She was being groomed as the family successor, having joined the company's core positions right after graduating abroad and had already handled several projects successfully.
Otherwise, Faye wouldn't have chosen her for Christopher's blind date.
Beauty, family background, and capability—all were necessary to match Christopher.
Christopher glanced at me before replying, "Sure."
Mabel immediately and naturally took the seat opposite Christopher.
Then came the crucial part of the blind date. Although it was mutual, Mabel had likely seen Christopher's photo and knew about him.
Despite Christopher's internal resistance, Mabel's eyes couldn't hide her admiration and delight upon seeing him, clearly satisfied and even infatuated.
After sitting down, the first thing she did was hand me her business card.
"Do you work in this building?" Mabel asked.
I nodded.
She smiled and said, "Our company is doing well. Since you work in this building, you must be very capable. Have you ever thought about joining us? The Simpson Group values talent and offers excellent benefits."
I was surprised by her immediate offer.
She then naturally looked at Christopher and Vincent, "Of course, the same invitation extends to both of you."
She handed out two more business cards.
I saw Vincent across from me subtly twitch his mouth, his eyes questioning, "Beauty?"
I blinked and nodded slightly.
Vincent politely accepted the card but said, "I'm quite satisfied with my current job and salary, so I have no plans to switch jobs."
As for Christopher, he didn't take the card.
Mabel didn't show any signs of panic or embarrassment, calmly placing the card on Christopher's table.
However, as she continued to chat with me, she couldn't hide her disappointment.
When she asked out of curiosity what I did, I casually replied that I was just an ordinary employee.
Of course, conversations went both ways.
Christopher remained aloof and silent.
So, I had to liven up the atmosphere a bit, starting with Mabel's position on her business card, "Ms. Simpson, you must be very capable to be a manager at such a young age."
Mabel smiled, "It's the result of hard work. But I'm happy that my efforts have been rewarded."
As she said this, she glanced at Christopher several times, seemingly wanting to see his reaction.
She seemed to be trying to portray herself as a highly capable modern woman.
She tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing her sexy earlobe and profile.
I smiled and nodded, "Ms. Simpson, you are indeed young and talented, just like my boss."
I brought Christopher into the conversation, after all, it was his blind date.
But Vincent, unaware of the situation, noticed me frequently steering the conversation towards Christopher. He seemed to realize I was trying to introduce a girlfriend to Christopher.
Vincent had been with Christopher for a long time and knew his temperament and preferences. He knew Christopher disliked having his life controlled or being deceived and manipulated.
He worried that I was using my position for this, and if Christopher noticed, I might anger him.
Sitting across from me, Vincent discreetly kicked my foot under the table and motioned with his mouth, silently reminding me.
