Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 291
No sooner had Liliana finished speaking than Paula's youngest brother, Otto Ellis, and her sister, Theodosia Ellis, walked in.
Otto, decked out in full hip-hop gear with a long chain around his neck, looked every bit the rich kid who spent his time partying. And he was exactly that, often making headlines in entertainment news for his wild antics.
Theodosia, on the other hand, was a singer and dancer. Judging by her makeup, she seemed to have come straight from a magazine shoot.
If it weren't for the Ellis family name, her mediocre talent would have left her forgotten in the entertainment industry. Even with the family name, she was still struggling to make a mark.
Compared to Paula, these two were clearly outclassed. No wonder Randy valued Paula so much. Even without the comparison, Paula was exceptional, but with these two as a backdrop, her brilliance was even more apparent.
Theodosia grumbled, "Seriously, I was working. I'm so busy, and you had to drag me here."
Liliana, shocked by Theodosia's insensitivity, snapped, "No matter how important your work is, it can't be more important than your sister. She's in the hospital, injured."
Theodosia glanced at Paula and dismissively said, "She doesn't look that badly hurt."
Randy glared at Theodosia, "What could be so important about your work? And how can you tell just by looking? Are you some kind of miracle doctor now?"
"Dad..." Theodosia began, but under Randy's stern gaze, she didn't dare continue. She still needed Randy's support to advance her career.
Randy coldly asked, "Tell me the truth. Did you have anything to do with your sister's kidnapping? Are you holding a grudge because she rejected your project?"
Theodosia stomped her foot in frustration, "Dad, you can't accuse me without evidence. Do you really think I'm that kind of person? Besides, I have other projects to work on."
She wasn't in a hurry since she still had work and exposure.
"Randy, there might have been misunderstandings in the past, but we can't just accuse her without proof. Theodosia may be rebellious, but she's not a bad person," Liliana quickly defended Theodosia.
She urged Theodosia to clear things up with Paula.
Theodosia glared at Paula and reluctantly explained, "I've never gotten anything good from you. You've always had the upper hand. Do you really think I'd dare to hurt you? If we're talking about being ruthless, Otto's worse than me."
"Talk about yourself, don't drag me into it," Otto, who had been listening, couldn't help but retort, glaring at Theodosia.
Theodosia, already rebellious, snapped back, "Of course, because you're the ruthless one. Remember the maid who stole something? You pushed her down the stairs, almost crippling her. You even claimed she seduced you. If anyone's ruthless, it's you."
Otto's face darkened, and he retorted, "If I were really that ruthless, Paula wouldn't have come back with just minor injuries."
Listening to this, I had to admit he had a point.
Paula scoffed, "So, the maid didn't seduce you; you pushed her down the stairs?"
Otto realized his mistake, especially under Randy's dark gaze. He quickly tried to explain, "She fell on her own. How can you blame me? She had impure intentions."
Randy's eyes were cold and fierce. Otto might have been a troublemaker, but Randy had always thought there were limits. Now, seeing Otto's ruthlessness, he knew he had to intervene before things got worse.
"You punk, I didn't know you were such a liar and so cruel. I'll deal with you," Randy said, raising his hand to strike.
Otto quickly hid behind Liliana, "Mom, help me. That maid had bad intentions. Besides, we're talking about Paula. I didn't hurt her."
Liliana tried to intervene, but Randy, a strict patriarch, wouldn't tolerate defiance.
"Come out!" Randy commanded, glaring at Otto. He even warned Liliana, "Step aside!"
Liliana didn't want to, but she had no choice.
Suddenly, she clutched her chest, looking distressed.
Randy immediately supported her, asking, "What's wrong?"
Liliana, looking pale, held Randy's hand, "My chest hurts. Take me for a check-up."
She signaled Otto to leave.
Paula, seeing through the act, coldly said, "Get out. Don't you know patients need rest?"
Liliana's face turned sour, but she quickly apologized, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you. I'll leave now."
She pretended to be weak, almost fainting.
Randy supported her, looking at Paula.
Paula, knowing Randy's nature, coldly said, "You go too. I need to rest."
Randy comforted Paula, "Rest well. I'll find out who kidnapped you and make them pay."
Paula didn't respond.
After they left, she said, "He talks big, but last time, he didn't do anything."
I comforted Paula, "No matter what, you have me. Don't worry about those who don't treat you well."
Paula waved her hand, "I don't care about unimportant people."
Seeing her calm, I felt relieved.
Paula, recalling Liliana's act, couldn't help but comment, "Did you see that? My stepmother's been faking fainting for years. I checked her health records; she's perfectly fine. My dad's the only one fooled."
"Her acting's pretty good," I remarked, thinking back to her performance. "Better than her daughter's in the entertainment industry."
Theodosia couldn't sing or act. I had seen her work once, and it was unbearable.
We shifted to more serious matters.
"Otto and Theodosia are annoying, but they had a point. If Otto were behind it, we wouldn't have escaped. He's too ruthless."
"If it's not them, who could it be? You just returned to the Ellis Group. Anyone with a brain wouldn't act so soon. What about your other brother, Colt Ellis?" I analyzed, suspecting no one in particular.
Compared to Theodosia and Otto, Paula had a higher opinion of Colt.
Paula shook her head, "It's not him. He's not stupid enough to act so soon. Plus, he's proud and wouldn't use such underhanded methods."
"Why do you say that?" I asked, curious.
Paula explained, "He's capable and has been in the company for a while. Many support him. He believes he can beat me fairly and win the inheritance."
"If it's not your siblings, then who? And did you notice something?" I frowned, recalling our kidnapping.
