Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 145

6 min 7.6K views

After breakfast, Christopher and I headed back to the villa, and I took a much-needed nap.

I ended up sleeping almost the entire day. I was woken up by a call from Tiana.

Christopher had figured I'd need to catch up on sleep and wouldn't have time to cook, so he asked Tiana to bring me some food. But I was out cold and didn't hear the doorbell.

Tiana was worried I might've slept through the day without eating, so she called me and waited at the door.

I quickly slipped on my slippers and went downstairs to get the food from Tiana.

"Eat your dinner while it's hot. Mr. Collins said you've been working hard taking care of Biscuit, and you shouldn't let it affect your health. Skipping meals isn't good for your stomach," Tiana said with a smile as she handed me the warm food.

I thanked Tiana, but I doubted Christopher was the one worried about me not eating all day. It was probably Tiana who felt bad for me.

After eating, I realized my hand had mostly healed from the burn, so there was no need to keep relying on Tiana for meals. Plus, the fridge was running low on supplies.

I decided to go to the nearby mall the next morning to restock the fridge.

The next day, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to head out. I never expected to run into Ophelia at the villa's entrance.

It didn't seem like a coincidence; it looked like she was deliberately waiting for me.

As I walked out, she rolled down her car window and, with a condescending tone, said, "Ms. Turner, I thought you were more favored. Don't you even have a car? Where are you going? I can have my driver give you a lift."

I didn't believe for a second that Ophelia was being kind. I intended to ignore her.

I took out my phone and opened a ride-hailing app to call a cab to the nearby mall.

Seeing that I wasn't responding, Ophelia's face darkened for a moment before she quickly regained her composure and smirked, "Ms. Turner, judging by your attitude, you must know about Quantum Dynamics Corporation signing a deal with Vertex Innovations Ltd, right? Regretting not taking my money? Too late now, plenty of people would have taken it."

From her words, I learned that Alan hadn't secured the investment from Summit Innovations Group and had instead turned to Vertex Innovations Ltd. The two companies were set to sign a deal next Friday.

"If you're here to brag or want me to congratulate you, sorry, I'm not interested," I said coldly, stepping aside.

I could see Ophelia's face darken at my indifferent attitude. She gestured for her driver to move the car closer to me.

To me, it seemed childish. If she kept pestering me, I could always go back to the community and have the security guard block her car.

But the next moment, Ophelia's car backed into another car that had just driven through the gate.

Her car collided with the Maybach behind it, pushing it several feet away and deforming her car. Ophelia, who hadn't fastened her seatbelt, looked disheveled, her hair a mess, resembling someone who had just caused a scene.

I couldn't care less about her, though, because I recognized the Maybach—it was the one Christopher often used.

I rushed over, knocking on the window, concerned. "Christopher, are you okay?"

Christopher seemed to be gathering his thoughts and didn't get out of the car immediately. Hearing my voice, he looked up at me. "I'm fine. Were you heading out?"

Before I could respond, his driver got out of the car in a hurry, apologizing, "Mr. Collins, I'm sorry. I didn't expect the parked car to suddenly reverse. I couldn't react in time, causing the accident."

Christopher didn't blame the driver.

This driver had probably been with him for many years, and Christopher was known for his leniency. "It's okay, just report it to the insurance."

However, the car was temporarily out of commission.

Seeing Christopher like this, I couldn't help but want to open the car door and help him out, just in case he was hiding any discomfort. "Christopher, let me help you..."

As I reached for the car door, Ophelia had already gotten out. She was holding her forehead, probably worried about the impact affecting her appearance, half-covering her face and blocking her view of Christopher.

"Who the hell can't drive and rear-ends our car? If you can't drive, don't come out!" she snapped, trying to shift the blame.

Christopher, using my hand for support, got out of the car. He naturally let go of my hand, his tall figure exuding authority even without approaching Ophelia.

"Parking on the roadside is a violation, and suddenly reversing makes it clear who's at fault," Christopher said in a low, commanding voice.

Ophelia frowned, probably still dazed from the collision, and dared to continue arguing, "Who are you to decide who's at fault? Only the police can do that. Kian, call the police!"

She seemed to think that being married to Alan gave her free rein.

I remembered she could drive, so she should know the traffic rules. She didn't even look at the car model, assuming that as Alan's wife, she could do whatever she wanted.

Her driver, Kian, seemed to understand her well. He immediately got her implication but didn't move. Instead, he reminded her, "Mrs. Bennett, the other car is a Maybach."

Ophelia responded instinctively, "I don't care what it is..."

As the words left her mouth, she realized what Kian had said.

But in an instant, she regained her arrogance, thinking that many people could afford a Maybach.

Ophelia, still angry about Christopher's attitude, said, "Kian, call the police. Let's see if he has the guts to be this arrogant. If not, he'll have to pay for my emotional distress, lost wages, and medical expenses. If he can't pay, he can rot in jail!"

She probably thought being the wife of Quantum Dynamics Corporation's CEO made her invincible, even expecting Christopher to apologize.

Christopher ignored her and turned to me. "Were you heading out?"

"Yeah, Christopher. What about you?" I nodded.

"Let's go together. I could use your help picking out dog food for Biscuit," Christopher said with a hint of helplessness.

It seemed he was still figuring out how to take care of Biscuit. Since he asked, I couldn't refuse. But with the car damaged, how would he go?

I voiced my thoughts. Christopher looked at me, "How are you getting there?"

"I'm using a ride-hailing app," I said, showing my phone.

Christopher replied, "You call the ride, and I'll transfer you the money. I don't have the app."

He didn't need it, of course. I refused the money but still called the ride.

Ignoring Ophelia, we decided on our plans. Just then, my ride arrived, and we got in together.

Ophelia, feeling even more ignored, turned her anger on her driver, "Did you hear what I said? Call the police and get ready to pay. Make sure your boss has the money."

Kian couldn't help but remind her, "Mrs. Bennett, that lady called the man Christopher."

Ophelia's indifferent expression changed as she realized, her voice shrill, "Summit Innovations Group's Christopher?"

Her voice was so sharp it almost pierced through time and space, and I heard it even after getting in the car. I couldn't help but smile. Ophelia was probably regretting her attitude now.
