Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 275
I let out a deliberate scoff. "Now you realize you were wrong? Too late. Think about how you're gonna make it up to me. But since we're here, let's get down to business."
I pointed disdainfully at Stefan, who was lying on the floor.
Stefan might have some looks, but honestly, he was nothing special. I bet Paula regreted ever getting involved with this piece of trash. It was downright embarrassing.
Paula didn't say a word.
Christopher, the perfect boss, immediately understood our plan.
He gave Vincent a look, and Vincent promptly dragged Stefan into a private room.
Then, Christopher arranged for a separate room for me, Paula, and Stefan.
Paula finally ripped the tape off Stefan's mouth.
Stefan, who had been struggling, now looked at us with terror.
He suddenly tried to crawl to Paula's feet. "Paula, we were a couple. Please let me go. You must have misunderstood me. I went to find you because I was afraid Sloane would hurt you. You know how possessive Sloane is. I broke up with you to protect you."
He looked at Paula with innocent, sincere eyes.
If a child looked at us like that, it might melt our hearts. But coming from Stefan, it was just disgusting.
Paula and I exchanged a look of disgust and pretended to gag.
"I spoiled you because you were obedient. Don't think I'm that easy to fool! Stop making me sick. Do you see this?"
Paula dragged a mannequin over and threw it in front of Stefan.
"This is your idea of concern? The kind that involves breaking someone's neck?"
Paula shook the mannequin's nearly broken neck, the cracks clearly visible from the force used.
Stefan's face changed, but he still tried to argue. "No, it was Sloane. It had nothing to do with me. I was really worried about you and rushed over to see what was happening!"
Paula couldn't be bothered to argue. "You're under my control now. Stop talking, or I won't even give you a chance to speak."
Stefan seemed to realize Paula might do something terrible to him, and his face turned pale.
Paula showed me the series of events Stefan had orchestrated.
It seemed Sloane had "cooperated" with Stefan's plan, covering the mannequin's head and following Stefan's instructions on how to break its neck. They then dumped the mannequin in a deserted forest.
Stefan had no idea a camera had been set up to catch him in the act.
So, his arrogant, disdainful words to Paula and his rage-filled expressions were all caught on tape, even scaring Sloane.
It was like seeing a demon.
I was so furious I stomped on Stefan's stomach. "You vile, disgusting man! You deserve to die!"
Stefan writhed in pain, caught off guard by my attack.
I lifted my foot but still wasn't satisfied. I kicked him a few more times and slapped him hard.
My hand hurt from the force, and I shook it out.
Paula quickly grabbed my hand and blew on it. "Melinda, don't dirty your hands on this scum. It breaks my heart!"
"Stefan, you tried to harm me. I have all the evidence. Get ready for prison," Paula said coldly, looking down at Stefan.
Stefan, now able to speak, first begged for mercy. When Paula didn't budge, he started yelling, "I won't go to prison! I didn't actually hurt you. You can't do anything to me. Let me go, and we can part ways peacefully!"
"You think we can part ways peacefully now? Why didn't you think of that before? I won't let a bastard like you off the hook." Paula was so angry she started cursing.
I didn't stop her. She needed to vent.
Stefan's face changed again, and he seemed to think of something. "You can't hurt me."
His certainty made Paula and me exchange a suspicious look.
Paula suddenly asked, "You seem confident. Someone must be backing you. Why else would you dare to go against me? Who put you up to this? You wouldn't have the guts on your own."
Stefan's eyes darted around, but he didn't speak.
Paula saw through him. "If you don't talk, you won't leave here alive. That forest you know is deserted. If I dump you there and only give you scraps every few days, it might be fun!"
Stefan's face turned even paler. "No, you can't do that!"
"Why not? You tried to erase your tracks and came to harm me. Now you're caught, and no one knows. It's called getting what you deserve."
Stefan had come secretly to harm Paula, so even if the police investigated, they wouldn't find anything.
Stefan looked at Paula's smile and felt like he was staring at a demon.
"Don't do this, Paula. We had a relationship. If I tell you who made me do it, will you let me go?" Stefan clung to this hope desperately.
"Of course. If you tell me, I'll let you go," Paula agreed.
Stefan couldn't believe it but saw a glimmer of hope. "How can I trust you?"
Paula laughed, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Do you have a choice? Besides, I don't need to lie to you."
Stefan thought for a moment, then gritted his teeth and revealed the truth. "It wasn't my fault. I had no choice. It was Pippa Owens. She wanted revenge because you helped Azalea escape. I couldn't resist. Please let me go."
Stefan, in his desperation, finally told the truth.
Paula's eyes turned cold.
Well, well!
Pippa had caused trouble before, but Paula had kept a low profile due to tensions with the Ellis family. Now, Pippa had come to her.
Paula's expression changed as she faced Stefan.
She held up a recording device. "I accidentally recorded you naming Pippa. What do you think she'll do when she hears this?"
"Paula, you promised to let me go if I told you!" Stefan yelled, his face twisted in anger.
I felt a sense of satisfaction. Paula knew how to get under someone's skin.
Paula looked innocent. "I said I'd let you off for trying to harm me. But you kept secrets. Now I have new leverage. You need to give me more useful information to trade for it."
Paula was smart, setting a trap for Stefan.
Stefan had no choice but to comply.
