Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 336
The video never made it to the public.
Idris's management company made sure of that, taking care of it with money a long time ago.
I only got to see the video because Paula happened to be in the area today and caught the whole thing on her phone while passing by.
A little while after sending the video, Paula called me.
"Quinlan really has the worst luck. Just when she thought she was rid of Yosef and Yasmin, here she is again, caught up in another mess. I'm worried that if they don't get what they want from Idris, they'll go back to harassing Quinlan. Yosef and Yasmin are so relentless, it's a miracle she grew up healthy at all."
I said, "Yeah, I'm worried about her too."
"With parents like that, it's hard enough to have a relationship. Poor Quinlan!" Paula said, feeling sorry for her.
Coming from a family like Quinlan's, having a stable relationship was already tough. Even if she found one, it might not last.
I realized I hadn't told Paula the truth.
"They're not a couple."
Paula sighed, "I always thought Quinlan was conservative. Who knew she was so modern? Hugging and kissing someone who's not her boyfriend. But Idris is good-looking, so I guess it's not a total loss for her!"
Clearly, Paula misunderstood.
I couldn't help but laugh.
Maybe Paula was more progressive than I thought.
After all, she was the one who dated guys and broke up if it didn't work out.
I explained the whole situation to Paula, "Quinlan was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Idris used her."
Paula didn't seem too surprised.
"I thought Idris was starting a new relationship. Turns out, Quinlan was just unlucky. He just broke up and got hounded by reporters, so he grabbed Quinlan, who seemed easy to manipulate."
I felt like Paula knew more than she let on.
"What's going on, Paula? Spill it!"
Whether it was for gossip or to help Quinlan, I needed to know more.
"I'm just guessing, but you know I'm usually right. I've seen enough relationship drama to know. If Idris hasn't addressed the rumors online, he's probably hiding on purpose."
I thought about it and agreed.
With all the news about Idris, he couldn't be unaware.
I needed Paula's help.
She ran a company that dealt with gossip and PR.
I didn't hold back, "If you get a chance to talk to Idris, please convince him to clear up the rumors. Quinlan's really innocent in all this! She's been through enough."
"Don't worry, I get it! If I can persuade him, I will. But once someone's caught in a whirlwind of emotions, it's hard to get them out unless they want to." Paula sighed.
Having been through my own emotional turmoil, I knew exactly what she meant.
I finished my lunch and had to get back to work. After wrapping up the call with Paula, I waited for her to handle the news.
But instead of hearing from Paula, I saw Idris publicly confirm his relationship with Quinlan.
I was worried, hoping Idris could handle Yosef and Yasmin's harassment.
But I didn't expect this.
The news almost crashed Twitter.
This was Idris's official announcement, and at the peak of his fame.
I frowned, "What is he trying to do?"
Christopher saw my frustration and analyzed, "If he dares to admit it, he's ready to face the consequences."
"What consequences? Isn't the consequence that he's dragging Quinlan into this mess? They're not even a couple." I was indignant.
Christopher, less emotional than me, said, "Well, now they are."
"So, he's deliberately pulling Quinlan into this! Jerk!" I was so angry I cursed.
Realizing Christopher was still there, I felt a bit embarrassed and coughed lightly, avoiding his gaze. "I just don't get what he's after. Quinlan's just a regular person, she doesn't add anything to his image. And for a celebrity like him, announcing a relationship only brings trouble."
"More importantly, by admitting the relationship, he's acknowledging Yosef and Yasmin. When they latch onto him, he'll regret it! He's so impulsive, not mature at all. Unlike Mr. Collins, who thinks everything through."
I spoke without thinking, only realizing what I said when I heard Christopher's clear, magnetic laugh.
My ears turned red, and I wished I could hide.
"Ms. Turner, you're getting better at compliments!" Christopher smiled at me.
I pretended not to hear and didn't respond.
Christopher spoke again, "You don't need to worry. He's not a bad person at heart."
"What?" I looked at him, "So, you know him well."
Thinking about it, Christopher was so busy and not into gossip. How did he know about Idris?
"Yes, we've met. When Douglas was at AutoForge Workshop, he invited Idris to be a brand ambassador. Idris didn't just sign for a high fee; he cared about the car's performance and design, so he declined."
Christopher explained my confusion.
Though they didn't sign Idris, Christopher admired his principles and kept in touch.
I didn't expect Idris to have such standards.
AutoForge Workshop wasn't bad, but its performance wasn't up to par. Using it as a gimmick could backfire on both the company and the celebrity.
But even so, it didn't excuse the trouble he caused Quinlan.
"Mr. Collins, since you have his number, can you let me talk to him about Quinlan?" I looked at Christopher hopefully.
He met my gaze, then sighed, "Melinda, Quinlan's not a child. She can handle her own affairs and doesn't need others to interfere."
Christopher wanted me to let Quinlan manage her own life.
I knew that. Quinlan's escape from her family to Starlight City showed her resilience.
But behind her strength was a lot of pain.
I couldn't help but feel protective of her.
Especially since she was the only family I acknowledged now.
I didn't answer Christopher, but after thinking it over, I decided to contact her.
