I followed behind and went inside.

As soon as I stepped in, I shivered instinctively. Maybe it was the drop in temperature, but the air felt filled with a chilling coldness.

Once we got in the elevator, Marlowe was directed to the conference room. Even though I really disliked her, I still did my job properly and brought her a cup of coffee.

Marlowe looked at me with a smirk. "See, this is the difference between you and me. I'm always the one being served, while you, even if you resent me, still have to bring me coffee. If I were you, I'd be more sensible."

"Sensible about what?" I straightened up, looking down at her as if from a higher ground. The pressure was palpable.

"Naturally, you should leave Summit Innovations Group. If you leave on your own, you might save some dignity. But if you don't, and I have to make you leave, it'll be much more embarrassing for you. Melinda, you're smart. You can see that Christopher treats me differently. One day, I'll have the power to kick you out."

Marlowe spoke with arrogance, clearly enjoying herself. Her threats didn't sit well with me.

I met her gaze without flinching. "Is that so? Then wait until you actually have the power to decide my fate. Right now, you're just talking big. Or do you think I'm as easily pushed out as Quinlan was? You haven't changed a bit, still trying to force others out. But the world doesn't revolve around you. Things don't always go your way."

Thinking about how she forced Quinlan out still made me angry, so I didn't hold back my words.

Marlowe didn't expect me to be so bold. She pointed at me. "You... let's see how long you can keep this up."

I retorted without hesitation. "That depends on how capable you are."

"You really have a sharp tongue!"

"I'll take that as a compliment!" I made sure Marlowe had no way to counter. Her face twisted with anger.

"You won't be smug for long. Mrs. Collins only acknowledges me," Marlowe said smugly.

I frowned. "Marlowe, hasn't Mr. Christopher Collins told you about Mrs. Faye Collins hurting Hayes? And you still dare to associate with her? Are you out of your mind?"

Marlowe glared at me. "You're the one who's out of your mind. Stop trying to sow discord. You're just bitter because Mrs. Collins doesn't favor you, so you're making things up. Let me tell you, Mrs. Collins would never harm me or Hayes. We're going to be family. As for your attempts to drive a wedge between us, it's not going to work. She already told me she had someone else buy the medicine, and she didn't know about it. So how could she harm Hayes?"

I looked at Marlowe in disbelief. "Did you verify that? Did you ask her yourself? And you just believed whatever she said?"

At this moment, I didn't know whether to call her naive or just plain stupid. She might even thank someone for selling her out. And by directly asking, she might have alerted the enemy, putting Hayes in even more danger. Sometimes, I didn't know whether to feel sorry for Hayes for having a sister like Marlowe.

"Why shouldn't I trust her? You're just jealous, it's written all over your face," Marlowe sneered, rolling her eyes.

Just then, Vincent called me about some documents.

Since Vincent worked closely with Christopher, Marlowe quickly changed her demeanor, becoming all gentle and graceful.

She called out to Vincent, who was about to leave, "Mr. Woods, when can Christopher see me?"

Vincent's attitude was cold and distant. "I'm sorry, Mr. Collins is busy. If you can't wait, you can leave."

Marlowe frowned and insisted, "If he's busy, I'll go find him myself."

She was about to get up and head to Christopher's office when Vincent stopped her. "Ms. Grey, I'm sorry, but company policy states that non-employees cannot freely enter the CEO's office, especially Mr. Collins' workspace."

Marlowe's face showed embarrassment, but she persisted. "What if I insist? Do you know who I am?"

I had to admire Vincent's courage. He stuck to his principles, ignoring Marlowe's reminders.

I left the office to handle the documents.

After finishing, I took the documents to Christopher' office, but it seemed empty.

Maybe he was in the conference room?

Vincent had mentioned the documents were urgent, so I decided to head to the conference room to find Christopher.

As I approached the door, I heard Marlowe's voice through the slightly open door. "Christopher, I know how you feel about me!"

Marlowe's voice was emotional, as if she had mustered all her courage to say it.

She knew about Christopher's feelings for her.

So, did Christopher confess, or how did she find out?

If they were mutually in love, would they be together soon?

A heavy feeling settled in my chest.

If Marlowe and Christopher got together, I might really be kicked out of Summit Innovations Group soon. Honestly, I'd be a bit regretful.

I liked the work environment at Summit Innovations Group, and having a boss like Christopher was great. As his employee, I could learn a lot and be protected by him. It was really nice.

Now, it seemed like that would soon be over.

Feeling down, I decided to leave and get some coffee to ease my sadness.

But then I heard Christopher speak. "Ms. Grey, it seems you're not thinking clearly, so there's no need to continue discussing today's collaboration."

Marlowe sounded hurt. "Christopher, why are you suppressing your feelings? I know you like me. I've taken this bold step to tell you I know, and I'm willing. Don't be so cold, okay?"

Christopher's face turned completely cold.

"Where did you get the idea that I like you? If you're unwell, you shouldn't be out. I don't think you're fit to continue working with me. I suggest you find someone else or let Jason handle the follow-up."

Christopher's expression was full of distance and rejection.

Marlowe was visibly shaken, her voice trembling. "You're saying the opposite, right? Why are you talking to me like this? Is it because of Faye..."

She seemed to have a sudden realization and became agitated.

It was surprising that she knew about Christopher's feelings.

But Christopher responded, "It seems you're seriously delusional. Let me be clear, I've never liked you and never will."
