"But why would she do that?" Blair asked, clearly puzzled. She didn't know the tangled history between us and Marlowe. To her, it seemed like Marlowe must care about Hayes if she went through all that trouble and was willing to pay Blair to look after him.

Quinlan had a different take. "Blair, if you don't believe it, call Marlowe over. If she's guilty, she won't be able to hide it. And if she doesn't confess, we can always call the cops."

Regardless of Marlowe's involvement, Hayes had been in the hospital for a long time. As his sister, she should at least show up.

So, Blair reached out to Marlowe.

But just by mentioning the medicine Marlowe bought, Blair had already made up her mind it was her.

Quinlan couldn't hold back any longer. "Someone like Marlowe will never admit it. She might even try to turn the tables on us. No, we should call the police when she gets here. That way, we can catch her off guard and get to the truth."

She was blunt, as usual.

I tried to stop Quinlan but couldn't. I could only tug at her sleeve. "Maybe we should ask Mr. Collins what he thinks?"

Quinlan frowned but stayed quiet. She looked over at Christopher.

When Christopher heard that Marlowe might be involved, I guessed he didn't want to believe it. After all, she was someone he liked, and in his mind, she probably still had a perfect image.

"I'll handle this." But he didn't say how.

Quinlan wanted to press further, but I quickly stopped her.

Just then, Marlowe finally arrived.

As soon as she saw us, she angrily scolded Blair, "Blair, I hired you, not anyone else. I told you to keep him locked up, but you didn't listen and brought these people here. What are you trying to do?"

It was as if she didn't notice the almost murderous look Quinlan was giving her.

But even if she did, Marlowe probably wouldn't care.

She had never been nice to Quinlan.

"Why are you in such a hurry to get rid of us? Did you do something you don't want us to find out about? Too bad we already know. How can you be such a cruel sister, Marlowe!" Quinlan couldn't help but yell at her.

"What right do you have to accuse me? How am I cruel? I make sure Hayes has everything he needs, I hired Blair to take care of him. I've done more than enough. How am I cruel?" Marlowe sneered.

Quinlan, seeing her denial, got even angrier. "You're still pretending to be innocent. Even if you don't admit it, once we call the police, they'll find out what you did, and you'll be punished."

To our surprise, Marlowe seemed unfazed.

"Do you dare? And do you think Christopher will agree to it?" So this was Marlowe's confidence.

But Quinlan didn't realize why Marlowe was so confident.

In her mind, Christopher was always a righteous figure, so she blindly believed in him.

"Mr. Collins will agree. He's just and fair. Besides, Hayes is his business partner. He'll protect him for the sake of the company."

I couldn't tell her that Marlowe was someone Christopher liked.

"Come with me. I need to talk to you." Without waiting for her response, I pulled Quinlan outside.

Christopher didn't stop us, which made the hope in Quinlan's eyes fade.

She asked one last time, "Mr. Collins, are you going to side with Marlowe too?"

Christopher didn't answer her. He just said to me, "Take Quinlan home. I'll handle the rest."

I understood that he meant he wouldn't call the police.

After all, if he wanted to be with Marlowe in the future, he wouldn't send her to jail.

Quinlan was unwilling to accept it.

Especially since Marlowe's eyes seemed to be taunting her.

This only made Quinlan angrier. "Just wait. Let's see how long you can be smug."
