Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 78
The first night back home, I didn't sleep well.
Probably because I still had things on my mind.
So I didn't delay any further and took Clara's number that I got from Vance the next day.
After much hesitation, I dialed the last digit.
Clara must have had my number saved in her phone for a long time, as she picked up the call at the very last second before it would have been disconnected.
I guessed she did it on purpose.
As soon as the call connected, Clara's teasing voice came through, "I thought you would hold out for another two days. Didn't expect you to call so soon."
Clearly, she had been waiting for my call.
"Haven't you been waiting for my call all along?" Although I no longer loved Lawrence and didn't have much animosity towards Clara, the mistress, I still felt there was some entanglement between us, which made it hard for me to be nice to her.
"Yes, I was just waiting to see when you couldn't resist seeing me. Speaking of which, you're lucky. Lawrence is useless. Knowing he couldn't escape, he still let you come back alive."
Clara's tone was full of disdain as she said this.
She didn't hide her desire for me to die.
I didn't waste words with her and got straight to the point, "I want to meet. Will you?"
Since she had been waiting for my call, she shouldn't refuse a meeting.
As I expected, Clara agreed quite readily, "Sure, but if you want to see me, you have to follow my requirements. If I'm happy, I might tell you everything you want to know. If you upset me, I might not say a word."
"Go ahead, what are your requirements?"
I didn't agree immediately, just waited for Clara to state her demands before deciding, as I couldn't figure out what Clara really wanted.
"Come alone, don't bring anyone. If I find out there's anyone else, whether openly or secretly, I won't give you the answers you want."
"Okay!" Clara's request wasn't unreasonable.
And if we met in a public place, I didn't believe she would do anything harmful to me.
"Where do you want to meet?" Clara, despite being narrow-minded, often appeared generous.
But Clara seemed to have an excessive obsession with me.
I thought for a moment, "The mall, third floor, there's a café."
Clara was silent for a moment, then agreed.
She must have known the place. We had a fight there last time. I love coffee and am familiar with good cafés, so I knew there was a café on the third floor of that mall.
In the afternoon, I got ready, wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, tied my hair, and went out.
I've been through so much lately that I felt much older, but in reality, I'm just a girl in my twenties. With Paula taking care of me, I looked much better now, and with today's simple outfit, I could easily pass for a college student.
I arrived first and sat by the window in the café, where I could see the scene below.
Soon, I saw a red Ferrari pull up at the entrance, and Clara, wearing a tight red top and pants, got out.
With her curly hair, makeup, luxury car, and designer bag, she attracted a lot of attention. She seemed used to the stares and calmly went upstairs.
She came straight to my table and sat down.
She was very familiar with the place and ordered the most expensive but best-tasting coffee, then leaned back in her chair and looked at me.
"You've recovered well. Lawrence is useless. He couldn't even deal with a woman like you."
Clara said disdainfully.
I knew she was doing it on purpose, so I didn't give her the satisfaction.
"Shouldn't I thank you for that? If you hadn't sent me those videos, I might not be sitting here talking to you now."
I looked at Clara with a mocking smile.
But strangely, Clara didn't seem angry or regretful. She just looked at me with a complex expression I couldn't understand.
At that moment, her coffee arrived, and Clara even thanked the waiter gently.
She was completely different from the arrogant, foolish shrew she had been before.
She didn't respond to me immediately, instead adding sugar to her coffee and tasting it before putting the cup down and replying, "Are you still feeling proud? You shouldn't be. You're too stupid. I've been with Lawrence for over two years, and you never noticed.
I don't know if you're really that dumb or if your love for Lawrence was fake, but you never noticed. Or maybe Lawrence had you completely fooled. I ran out of patience and had to make it clear."
Clara's tone was full of contempt, with no guilt.
I had seen her shamelessness before, so I didn't bother getting angry.
But the timeline...
"Over two years? How is that possible?"
I was still shocked.
Clara seemed amused by my question, her eyebrows relaxing.
She stirred her coffee and smiled, "You know Lawrence lied to you, yet you didn't doubt his words.
Let me guess, what did he tell you? Since he wanted to deceive you, he must have said I seduced him, right? That it was love at first sight?
And to lessen his guilt, he probably said it happened because he couldn't control himself during your pregnancy.
Lawrence is selfish. He must have given you such excuses. But I didn't expect you to still believe him."
Clara looked at me with raised eyebrows, full of mockery and pride, "Kyle's daughter, and yet you're so foolish!"
I had considered that Lawrence's words were partly lies, but I didn't expect so much of it to be false. He really took me for a fool.
We had been married for just over a year, and he had said they met at a summit. Even that was a lie.
"Don't look so surprised. It makes me happy. Let me tell you more." Clara smiled, squinting at me, enjoying my confusion and shock.
