I had seen many sides of Christopher, including when he was sick. But right now, he was holding a leash with a playful dog tugging towards the bushes, looking calm and collected.

Luckily, he was in a particularly good mood. "Border collie."

I looked at the border collie. My dog's leash was quite long, and seeing the similarly sized border collie, it naturally moved closer.

The border collie reacted dramatically, as if it was being bullied, with its dark eyes looking pitiful. It even let out a whimper.

Then, my golden retriever immediately seemed to feel guilty, carefully lifting a paw to gently pat the border collie's head in a comforting gesture.

I thought the border collie would be scared and back away, given its earlier timid behavior. To my surprise, the border collie lowered its head slightly, rubbing against the golden retriever. I could almost see the surprise and then joy in my golden retriever's eyes, as it allowed the border collie to nuzzle against it.

The golden retriever stood there calmly, letting the border collie lean on it. The border collie would playfully run off and then come back to nuzzle the golden retriever, who patiently waited without any sign of annoyance.

I couldn't help but laugh.

Christopher's attention was immediately drawn to my laughter. His deep eyes seemed to pull me in, and with his height, my five-foot frame felt even smaller next to him.

"What's so funny?" he asked in his deep voice.

I was too embarrassed to admit that I was imagining a whole story just from watching the dogs, so I made something up. "Nothing, just thought the dogs were really cute, carefree. Especially your border collie, looking so pitiful but actually quite smart. My golden retriever seems a bit dopey in comparison."

Christopher gave me a long look, then glanced at the playing dogs. "Jealous? If you were as smart as the border collie, you could live a carefree life too."

I was speechless. It felt like a personal attack. It sounded like he was saying I wasn't even as smart as a dog.

The key point was, when I left with my golden retriever, it was the one reluctant to leave. The border collie's slightest move had it completely captivated.

Back home, I couldn't help but tap my golden retriever's nose. "You silly thing, getting so easily swayed and still feeling proud about it. Aren't you supposed to be smart?"

Without the border collie around, my golden retriever seemed to regain its normal intelligence.

I had to complain to Paula. It seemed she had given me a silly dog. But before I could text her, I got a call from Fallon.

"Ms. Knight," I said. Fallon only called when there was something important, and I had a feeling it was good news.

"Ms. Turner. The divorce is finalized. I'll send you a picture shortly. As for the original documents, you can either come pick them up or I can mail them to you."

No wonder Jason's students were so efficient. She had handled it so quickly.

"Thank you." After hanging up, I eagerly opened the message. Seeing the stamped divorce certificate, I felt a surge of excitement.

I thought I would be calm, but achieving this meant my relationship with Lawrence was finally over. From now on, Lawrence and I had no ties.

Good news had to be shared with friends. I immediately called Paula.

"Paula, I finally got the divorce from Lawrence. From now on, no more ties with him," I said excitedly.

Paula was genuinely happy for me. That was what true friends were for. Sharing in each other's joys and sorrows. She truly did, and I felt it.

"That's great, finally divorced from that awful man."

"Stop joking. Let's talk business!" I was no longer easily embarrassed by Paula's teasing and changed the topic without hesitation. If I wasn't embarrassed, she would be.

Paula got serious. "Quantum Dynamics Corporation wanting to acquire Horizon Innovations and asking Summit Innovations Group for help is indeed being talked about."
