They say you shouldn't fear a strong opponent, but rather a foolish teammate.

Missy is that foolish teammate.

Lawrence has been trying so hard to appease me, even lowering himself without any dignity.

"You, you... fine, fine, you don't need me now that you have Melinda. If that's the case, I'll leave and never come back to bother you. Having a son is useless; he can't protect you in old age. I guess no one will even look at me when I die."

On the other end of the phone, Paula listened to the whole drama. When I returned to my room, she sent me a lot of messages criticizing that mother and son. However, since Lawrence had installed cameras in the house, we could only type, which slowed down the conversation.

We chatted until late at night.

Yes, I found out about the cameras during the day when I met Vance, who taught me how to find them.

After returning to my room, I discreetly found the hidden cameras.

I pretended not to know, washed up, and went to sleep as usual.

I just woke up late the next day.

Lawrence and Missy were gone. I guessed he was taking Missy to the station.

I think Lawrence, despite acting with that malicious Missy, probably also feared she would drag him down, so he sent her off decisively.

I checked the bus schedule on my phone and guessed they were almost at the station.

Then I took my phone to the bathroom and turned on the camera in the Mercedes.

Lawrence, connected to a Bluetooth headset, was talking to Missy.

"Lawrence, do you think Melinda believed our act last night?" Missy's voice came through.

Lawrence sneered, "Don't worry, she doesn't have the brains to see through our act. After you went to your room, I felt her attitude change a bit. I also sensed that she still loves me."

Missy patted her chest, "That's good. The act wasn't in vain. But Lawrence, do you really want me to go back to the countryside?

You know I told everyone in the village that you made it big and brought me to the city to enjoy life. Now if I go back in disgrace, they'll gossip about me, saying I was sent back and that you're unfilial.

And our house is falling apart. How can I live there? It might collapse on me during a rainstorm.

I'm used to the good life in the city. I can't bear to go back. Can you find a way for me to stay, without Melinda knowing?"

Lawrence frowned.

So he wouldn't allow such a reputation to exist.

"Mom, you're right. Just don't live with Melinda. Starlight City is big; you might not even run into each other. You can stay in Starlight City."

"Really? I knew you cared about me. Where will I stay?" Missy's voice was noticeably excited.

Lawrence thought for a moment, "Clara has an empty house. I have the key. I'll take you there."
