I had a vague idea of what was going on. But using a teapot to hit someone? I glanced at Paula and raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'Paula, that was something else.'

Paula smirked, a bit defiant, 'Told you, I'm not the one who gets hurt.'

Christopher seemed to ignore our silent exchange and checked Jason's breathing. "His breathing's stable for now. He should be okay."

Paula responded, "I know how to control my strength. But Christopher, you were the one who said not to call the cops. If anything goes wrong, don't come blaming me later."

Christopher nodded. "Don't worry, I won't."

It was unclear if he meant he wouldn't blame Paula or that Jason would be fine.

Luckily, Christopher had already called a doctor, who should be arriving soon.

Paula yawned and started to pull me away. "Christopher, you handle this. Melinda and I are outta here."

I looked at Jason lying on the ground and tugged at Paula. "Maybe we should wait for the doctor to check on Mr. Cook before we go."

Paula playfully poked my forehead. "Melinda, am I not your favorite anymore? I'm the one who got scared, and you're more worried about someone else?"

I couldn't win against her, so I just kept quiet.

"Relax, I know what I'm doing. I only went easy on him because he helped you with that lawsuit. Consider it a favor."

I trusted Paula, especially after what she said. I hugged her. "I knew you were the best."

"Of course, I didn't even call the cops for you. So unfair."

"Paula, you poor thing, I'm so sorry!" I leaned against Paula.

Christopher, hearing our affectionate exchange, suddenly looked up, his eyes darting between us with a complex, strange expression.

For some reason, his gaze made me feel embarrassed. I quickly let go of Paula.

Fortunately, the doctor arrived soon.

"Aside from some swelling and bruising on the back of his head, there are no other injuries. His breathing is stable, but given the situation, it's best to take him to the hospital for a thorough check-up," After a detailed examination, the doctor reported back.

Christopher agreed and instructed the doctor to make arrangements.

Paula didn't seem to care and turned to me. "See, I told you it wasn't a big deal."

I nodded obediently. "You're always right. Let's go, I'll take you home."

We said goodbye to Christopher.

Paula, looking a bit sleepy, followed me to the car in the underground garage.

When I reached out for the car keys, Paula seemed to wake up from her drowsiness. "Melinda, are you sure you want to drive?"

I nodded confidently. "I drove around a bit tonight, I'm fine."

I took the keys from Paula, worried about her driving while tired.

I started the car, unlocked the doors, and motioned for Paula to buckle up in the passenger seat. I showed no signs of discomfort.

She seemed to believe me. She couldn't help but be surprised. "Weren't you scared? Did the fear just disappear?"

I told her about what happened with Christopher at the amusement park.

As I drove and recounted the events, Paula gradually relaxed. "You said bumper cars, and it actually worked? Christopher is amazing. He can solve anything."

I nodded, still surprised at how easily my fear was resolved.

Paula gave me a teasing look. "Isn't that something couples do? A small car, two people close together, bumping into each other, sparks flying."

I had to admire Paula's imagination. But my mind couldn't help but recall the moment when Christopher's leg touched mine.

I pushed down the warmth in my heart and explained, "Who says bumper cars are just for couples? There's no rule. Anyway, practicing with bumper cars really helped me overcome my fear."

I added, "Of course, I have to thank Christopher. This morning, we went to test the smart car's features. The person in charge called me out first, and I was terrified. But Christopher didn't criticize me in front of everyone. He saved my dignity and took me to the bumper cars after work to help me overcome my fear. Where can you find a boss like that?"

"He may seem cold, but I think he's warm inside. And Christopher driving bumper cars was quite a sight." I couldn't help but laugh.

Paula seemed to think more deeply. "Is he really that good to everyone?"

"I'm open to new relationships, but I won't use them to forget Lawrence." I was ready for new love, but I wouldn't settle.

For now, I was more curious about something else. "Mr. Cook was set up. Do you know who did it? That's a bold move."

They said one shouldn't mess with lawyers. Someone like Jason, messing with him was practically asking for trouble!
