Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 93
When the last item in the house was packed, leaving only some cherished photos and handmade gifts in the drawer, the packer asked me.
"Do you want to pack these things as well?"
I looked at the photos.
The photos were taken during what I considered the sweetest moments with Lawrence, and I had recorded the time, place, what I was doing, and my feelings on the back of each photo.
As for those little gifts.
They were indeed handmade. I initially thought Lawrence had made them for me himself, but after Clara's sarcastic reminder, I checked and found out they were bought online, ranging from a few dollars to tens of dollars, identical.
I couldn't believe I had cherished such things so dearly.
I tore all the photos into pieces and threw them into the trash bag along with the gifts. "No need to pack these, just throw them away."
Paula saw that I had let go and felt relieved.
Soon we arrived at the new place.
Christopher's thoughtfulness didn't stop there; he had even sent a housekeeper and a cleaner ahead of time. By the time Paula and I had put away the last of our things, the place was spotless, and the original layout and decor were intact.
Paula sat with me on the sofa.
Christopher's housekeeper, Tiana Fuller, even brought over a vase, scissors, and fresh flowers from next door.
"Ms. Turner, if there's anything you haven't put away properly, just let me know, and I'll take care of it. These flowers are from Mr. Collins; he said that fresh flowers can brighten up a new life and lift your spirits."
Tiana said with a smile as she arranged the flowers.
I smiled and thanked Tiana, "Thank you, everything is very clean, and the original decor is unchanged. These flowers are very thoughtful of Christopher, I really like them."
Seeing my genuine satisfaction, Tiana happily continued trimming and arranging the flowers.
Paula sat with me on the sofa, drinking tea and resting, and couldn't help but whisper, "Tiana is really nice, and Mr. Collins is so thoughtful. If you were to hire a housekeeper on your own, you might not find someone as good and trustworthy. Why don't you ask Tiana if she can help you out here when she's free? Mr. Collins isn't home much, and Tiana might find the big house a bit lonely. This way, you won't be alone, and I'll feel more at ease. Tiana can earn double the salary, so why not? It would really put my mind at ease."
Paula was worried that I might dwell on past events if I stayed home alone and something might happen.
Even though I repeatedly assured her that I was fine, she still wasn't convinced.
I glanced in Tiana's direction.
But I felt it might not be appropriate, "Wouldn't it be inappropriate? After all, we are two separate households, and it might cause misunderstandings. I don't mind, considering all the embarrassing things that have happened online, but Christopher is different. He's single and has someone he likes. If he ever finds someone, having Tiana go back and forth might cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
Paula looked a bit disappointed.
"Don't you get it? It's not like you wouldn't be paying Tiana. Besides, Christopher might not even want you to pay for it. Someone of his status doesn't need your money. The most important thing is, do you understand? Relationships are built through interactions. He helps you, and in the future, if he needs help, you can return the favor. For example, if he's not home, you can help take care of his plants, or if he needs some nutritional supplements when he comes back, you can arrange it for him. That's what building relationships is about. Don't always think you're bothering him. I think Christopher is happy to help you. It saves you from having to ask for help when you have a big problem, like this time. Christopher might even feel like he hasn't taken good care of you and can't explain it to your parents. Besides, you don't have any other relatives in Starlight City, and I'm your only friend. You need to socialize, but I guess you're a bit hesitant. Christopher is the most reliable person. You should interact more with him. Why not? Trust me."
I opened my mouth, wanting to say something to refute her.
But my eloquence was indeed not as good as Paula's, and I couldn't find a way to argue.
Paula continued to persuade me, "Christopher is single, and he doesn't have a girlfriend. When that day comes, you can just be friends! You're about to get divorced and will be single again. When that happens, you can have a normal relationship. Who can say anything about it? Besides, with Christopher's charisma and power, no one would dare to speak nonsense in front of him. You have such a high-quality man like Christopher right in front of you, and you don't know how to seize the opportunity. You're really silly!"
Paula couldn't help but tap my forehead.
I was shocked by Paula's bold idea, "Paula, please don't say that and don't try to matchmake us. Christopher and I are like the moon in the sky and the wild grass by the roadside. How can you even think of pairing us together? Is it because I'm your good friend, and you think I'm perfect?"
"You're using the wrong words. I think you're great, gentle, kind, pure, and cute. Plus, you're wealthy, beautiful, educated, and capable, with strong investment skills. If you get to know Christopher better, he might introduce you to Summit Innovations Group. Wouldn't that be great for you?"
Paula kept persuading me.
But I remained unmoved and reminded her, "Don't ever let Christopher hear this, okay? I know my place."
"Hmph, you're just being silly!"
Paula said I didn't know how to seize opportunities.
I quickly changed the subject, "Let's not talk about this. I'm not in the mood for it. I'm more curious about who that man was that night. I wonder how Vance's investigation is going?"
Talking about serious matters, Paula became more serious, "It might be tricky! I don't know if he's not putting in the effort, but there's been no progress for so long."
I wasn't too upset and comforted Paula instead, "I understand. It's been a long time, and hotels protect privacy well. Finding surveillance footage is indeed difficult."
Paula looked at me, "Do you really want to know who that man was that night?"
I understood Paula's meaning, "I just want to find out. If I can't, it's okay. But I have my suspicions. I feel like that person either knows me or is someone Lawrence knows."
"Didn't you say Lawrence didn't know?" Paula frowned.
That was my initial analysis, but thinking about the kisses and intimacy that night, the person's deep voice even felt strangely familiar, especially when he said, "Melinda, Melinda."
If he didn't know me, he must have been someone Lawrence knew and arranged to be in my bed.
