Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 204
Finally, the whole Quinlan situation was wrapped up.
I was getting back into the swing of work when I went to Christopher's office to drop off some documents. As I glanced around, I noticed a magazine on his desk.
The cover featured Christopher in a perfectly tailored suit. His striking face was impossible to miss, and anyone would take a second look.
Since Echo Magazine had published the issue, the company probably had more than one copy. I went to the area where we kept magazines and found it.
I flipped through the pages, and the content was exactly the same as the interview.
Marlowe must have remembered Christopher's reminder. Still, since she liked him, she could have added a bit more flair. Being so strict, who knew when she would win him over?
Originally, the magazine was supposed to be blocked from release, but now that it was out, it might have saved Marlowe's reputation and solidified her position as editor-in-chief.
As I suspected, Christopher was the type to work quietly behind the scenes. That was a good trait.
Because it was about Christopher, the magazine sold out almost immediately. People even started online discussions, speculating about him.
Some guessed: [Mr. Collins is openly declaring his love! If the person he likes responds, they could be together just like that.]
Many comments followed.
[Mr. Collins is so handsome. If he likes someone, he should just admit it. I wonder which lucky girl caught his eye.]
[It's like a romance drama come to life. Too bad I'm not the leading lady, just an extra.]
[The girl Mr. Collins likes must be amazing. Can any insiders spill the tea? Who is she?]
An insider.
Me, me, me!
But I couldn't admit it. This secret had to stay buried. It was so frustrating.
I wondered if anyone else knew. Had they guessed it was Marlowe? Would they soon uncover her identity?
The internet was powerful and full of surprises.
Maybe Christopher had been so low-key to protect Marlowe from being found out and bothered.
I used to mock him for not knowing how to pursue a girl. I was short-sighted. Christopher was more thoughtful than I gave him credit for. I secretly gave him a thumbs-up.
But gossiping aside, this was Christopher's private matter. I decided to let it go.
I checked the time. It was almost the end of the workday.
Lately, I had been leaving Sunny at Christopher's place during the day, and Tiana helped walk it. It had been more active, so its dog food ran out faster. I needed to stock up.
As I drove out of the underground parking lot, I saw Christopher standing nearby.
I remembered that his driver had taken leave again. Christopher had been splitting his commute between driving himself and riding with me since we lived next door and I was his secretary.
I almost forgot I drove him to work this morning, so he didn't have a car to get home.
I pulled over. "Mr. Collins!"
He nodded and got into the passenger seat.
Since I was giving him a ride, I figured I'd have the dog food delivered. But Christopher noticed my direction and asked, "Aren't you going to buy dog food?"
"What? How did you know?" I was surprised. Did I say that out loud?
"No, you mentioned it this morning," he replied calmly.
"Oh, right! No worries, I'll have it delivered. I'll take you home first." After all, he had a long workday, and I didn't want to drag him to the pet store.
Christopher frowned but disagreed. "Sunny is picky. It's best to buy it yourself. It won't eat expired food."
He remembered that.
Last time, I ordered dog food online for Biscuit, but it was close to expiring, and Sunny wouldn't eat it. Biscuit, however, didn't mind.
I felt bad when I realized the issue after checking the production date.
Biscuit was usually quiet and timid, while Sunny was more particular and harder to please.
"Biscuit has become more playful with Sunny around. It has gone through a lot of toys. We should get some more," Christopher explained.
I felt a bit embarrassed.
Why? Because Sunny probably broke most of the toys.
"Alright then." I drove towards the pet store.
As I drove, I noticed a car following us.
Through the rearview mirror, I saw a camera sticking out of the window. It was probably the magazine's aftereffect.
Christopher's love life had become a hot topic, and people wanted the scoop. They must have started following him as soon as he left the office.
We reached the pet store, and I found a parking spot.
As soon as I parked, I heard the sound of cameras clicking away.
I turned to Christopher. "Someone's following us. Are you getting out?"
Christopher looked at me. "Are you scared?"
He seemed to be challenging me.
"Scared? Why would I be scared?" After all, I was just his secretary. There was nothing to be afraid of.
I confidently got out of the car.
Christopher followed, and I locked the car. We walked towards the pet store together.
The cameras kept clicking behind us.
I turned around and waved at the cameras. "Hi..."
I saw the photographers' excited expressions fade when they realized it was just me.
See, nothing to worry about.
They wanted to know who Christopher liked, not me.
I was just his secretary. They knew that, so they were disappointed.
Feeling mischievous, I smiled brightly at them. "We're going to the pet store. Want to join us?"
The photographers were taken aback by my sudden invitation. They hesitated, considering my offer.
