And to be fair, Quinlan wasn't completely in the right either, even though emotionally, Quinlan handled the Hayes situation better than she did.

After her warning, she didn't wait for my response and hung up.

Just when I was feeling overwhelmed and worried, Christopher must have finished his work.

He finally got in touch with me.

I rarely called him multiple times in a row like this.

Christopher probably thought something had happened to me. When he answered, his voice was filled with concern and urgency, "Melinda, what's going on? Tell me!"

The more he sounded like that, the more worried and heartbroken I felt for him.

I explained everything to Christopher.

After I finished, I had to voice my concern, "Vanguard Motors, Inc. is already more advanced than AutoForge Workshop in smart cars. If they get their hands on the blueprints, it would be a huge blow to AutoForge Workshop."

I wasn't sure if I was comforting Paula or myself. "Marlowe went through a lot to get Hayes out of the orphanage. She should cherish him. He's her only blood relative."

"Let's hope so! But people can change. I'm more worried about something else. If Christopher gets close to Marlowe and she realizes he likes her, she might take advantage of it." Paula's tone was filled with concern.

I felt a bit anxious, "Paula, you do not like Christopher, do you?"

Paula was taken aback, then quickly responded, "I like younger guys, not these high-maintenance types! I'm worried about you. If Marlowe becomes your boss, your life will be tough."

"Paula, you're the best. I knew you cared about me! But I trust Christopher. He might be a bit obsessive, but he promised to look out for the employees." I felt confident.

Although I had enough money to live comfortably without working, her words still touched me. I knew she meant it.

"Alright, if that day ever comes!" I replied with a smile.

After hanging up with Paula, I realized I was really hungry.

I hadn't had a proper meal, and it was all Marlowe's fault.

I treated myself to a nice meal at a nearby restaurant, ordered a couple of dishes, and enjoyed a good dinner before driving home.

Christopher hadn't returned yet, so when I took Sunny for a walk, I also took his dog, Biscuit.

Of course, I had no choice but to walk them together. Sunny insisted on bringing Biscuit along. The dogs loved going out, and Biscuit, who was already familiar with me, was initially very happy.
