"Hold up, take a seat. I'll fill you in," Marlowe called out to me. She was clearly ticked off, but she still wanted me to stick around.

She didn't give Ophelia a hard time, just said with a hint of annoyance, "Get me another cup of coffee."

Ophelia, relieved, quickly made another cup without any mistakes this time and brought it over.

Marlowe looked at me and started, "Did you stop the publication of the interview with Christopher?"

"What?" I was genuinely confused.

Echo Magazine had been struggling with sales ever since an employee left and took valuable resources with them. Marlowe was desperate to use this interview to turn things around and restore the magazine's reputation.

So, after the interview, I assumed it would be proofread and published immediately. I even asked about it today, but there was no news. I thought Marlowe was just being meticulous or trying to make the content as appealing as possible within Christopher's limits.

I never expected Christopher to stop the publication.

Marlowe had planned to use this interview to make a strong comeback and solidify her position as the editor-in-chief. She had already announced the interview and got Christopher's permission.

Now, with the magazine unable to publish, it was a huge embarrassment for her and would definitely make her a laughingstock in the industry. No wonder she was anxious.

My initial irritation at being threatened was replaced with amusement at Marlowe's predicament.

But this wasn't something I had any control over.

"You're barking up the wrong tree. What does this have to do with me?" I said sincerely.

Christopher's decisions were beyond my influence.

Marlowe clearly didn't believe me. "Stop pretending! Does Christopher know about your scheming ways?"

Marlowe glared at me. "If it wasn't you, then who? You're Christopher's secretary and you have it out for me. You took this chance to sabotage me!"

"You keep mentioning Christopher like you know him so well. Don't you understand that Mr. Collins makes his own decisions? How could a secretary like me influence him?"

When I mentioned her relationship with Christopher, I noticed a fleeting look of guilt on Marlowe's face.

But when I looked closer, she was back to her usual self. I thought I must have imagined it.

She snapped again, "Stop trying to fool me! If it wasn't you, then who? You can't just wash your hands of this."

"Ms. Grey, I thought you were smart. How can you not see the situation clearly? Mr. Collins makes his own decisions. Instead of blaming me, you should figure out why Mr. Collins suddenly ordered the interview to be pulled."

Honestly, I was trying to help her.

Even though I was secretly pleased about the publication being stopped, I wasn't one to kick someone when they were down. I just made a few snide remarks.

Marlowe, however, thought I was mocking her. "Christopher stopped the publication because of you. You have to take responsibility!"

We were back to square one.

She was convinced it was my doing. No matter how I explained, she wouldn't listen.

But seeing her so frustrated actually put me in a good mood.

Watching her squirm was satisfying!

"Ms. Grey, you sound ridiculous. How did you even become an editor-in-chief? This isn't the first time Mr. Collins has stopped an interview from being published. Last time, I wasn't even at Summit Innovations Group, and you were still rejected. Are you going to blame that on me too?"

I took a sip of my coffee, savoring the taste. Seeing Marlowe's face turn sour at my words, I couldn't help but continue, "Instead of blaming me, you should find the real reason why the publication was stopped. And as for threatening me with Quinlan's parents, you're barking up the wrong tree! I've seen worse. Do you really think I'm scared?"

At least I learned that Christopher had stopped the publication.

"You're delusional. Do you really think Christopher values you?" Marlowe's face was cold, her eyes icy.

Her words reminded me that she was someone Christopher liked. This left me puzzled.

What was Christopher thinking? Wasn't he afraid of upsetting the person he liked? Making it harder to be with Marlowe in the future?

"Sure. I can't compare to you. You're Mr. Collins' friend! Since you got his interview, it shows you have a good relationship with him. Why don't you ask Mr. Collins yourself why the publication was stopped? Once you know, you can make the necessary changes and get it published."

No need to keep blaming me.

But I couldn't understand Christopher's motives.

Was he trying to put Marlowe in a tough spot so he could swoop in like a hero and say something dramatic like, "If you agree to be my girlfriend, I'll let you publish it"?

If any man did that to me, I'd tell him to get lost!

Christopher's way of pursuing someone was too unique. I just hoped he didn't mess it up!

Marlowe's eyes flickered at my suggestion.

Then her expression hardened, and she threatened, "You think I'm joking? I'll inform Quinlan's parents about her whereabouts right now."

She stared at me, trying to catch any sign of fear.

I remained calm and replied, "Go ahead!"

I stood up, placing my coffee money under my cup.

As for Marlowe's coffee, she could forget about me paying for it!

But as I turned to leave, my relaxed expression turned cold.

Quinlan had lost her job and was constantly on edge. She had recently dealt with the bar incident and Marlowe's brother, so she was under a lot of stress.

I shouldn't add to her worries, but since this involved her, I had to make sure she was prepared if her parents showed up.

So I told her about her parents' situation.

"I'm not telling you this to make you feel worse. I just want you to be prepared. Remember, I'm here for you." I tried to comfort her.

Quinlan was stronger than I expected. "Melinda, don't worry. I knew this day would come. I've already made arrangements."

I understood what she meant. "Do you have a city in mind?"

"Not yet. I'll let you know once I decide," Quinlan replied.

"Alright!" I said, then brought up another matter.
