Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 26
On the way to the hospital, I added Jason's WhatsApp, which Paula had sent me. He really is a busy man.
I arrived at the hospital entrance, and he added me back.
He was indeed very busy. As soon as he added me, he sent a message: "Do you have time? For safety, find a place with no people and no surveillance, and let's talk in detail via voice!"
I had actually been to this hospital before.
When my parents had a car accident, they were sent to this public hospital.
My parents were rescued in this hospital after the car accident.
When the doctor announced my parents' death, I was devastated and found a secluded corner without cameras to cry.
"In five minutes, I'll call you."
I quickly found that secluded place and called him.
After the call connected, out of respect, I introduced myself first.
But I was interrupted halfway through.
"Ms. Turner, I already know your information. Let's get straight to the point. What is your request?"
Jason's tone was very calm and indifferent. From his voice, he seemed like a very authoritative man.
I was actually a bit afraid of people like Jason. His aura was too strong. I immediately answered obediently, "Divorce, and make sure the bad man leaves with nothing."
"Ms. Turner, there's no such thing nowadays."
"Then how can I get the most money, preferably so that Lawrence gets nothing? The company and the house are my parents' inheritance, and the car was bought by me. He shouldn't get any of it!"
I was indignant.
"Then answer these questions first: 1. Is the man at fault in the marriage? 2. Besides the inheritance, do you have any joint marital property? 3. Did you sign a prenuptial agreement?"
"1. The man cheated.
2. Besides my parents' inheritance, the dividends from the company shares generated during the marriage should also be considered joint marital property. Also, during the marriage, the man started another tech company. Later, when the company had cash flow problems, I transferred some premarital investment funds into this tech company.
3. We did not sign a prenuptial agreement."
I felt increasingly guilty as I said the last part.
Through Jason's clear and methodical questioning, I realized how much I trusted Lawrence without any defenses and how foolish I was.
On the other end of the call, I didn't know if Jason was speechless with me, but after a pause, he continued to ask, "Why didn't you sign a prenuptial agreement?"
"The man didn't want to. He said that signing a prenuptial agreement meant I didn't trust him, and if two people didn't trust each other, there was no point in being together. I softened and didn't sign it, and then I forgot about it."
Although Jason couldn't see my expression, I felt ashamed and annoyed with myself as I spoke.
"Do you have solid evidence of the man's infidelity?"
"The woman sent me a video of the man's infidelity, but it only has their voices, not their faces. I heard that recordings can be used as evidence. This one has sound, so it should count, right?"
"It counts, but it's not enough!"
"What about evidence obtained by a private investigator?"
"That can't be used. Such evidence is privately filmed by the investigator, and the other party might sue you for invasion of privacy."
I was a bit disappointed. It was more troublesome than I expected. I thought for a moment and continued to ask, "The car the man drives was a gift from me, so it should be considered joint marital property. The video I filmed in it should be usable as evidence."
"It can be!"
Hearing this, I felt somewhat relieved.
"Now, you need to quickly find evidence of the man's asset transfer. In court, evidence is what matters, not subjective assumptions."
"Okay, I'll find the evidence as soon as possible."
"Good. But don't alert the other party. I will also have someone investigate. When I need your cooperation, please be proactive." Although Jason spoke coldly, I felt that he was genuinely considering my situation.
"Mr. Cook, do you also handle criminal cases? If I find evidence that Lawrence drugged me to harm my unborn child, can he be convicted?"
"Tell me more specifically."
"I overheard a conversation between Lawrence and his mother, Missy. When my child was almost six months old, they started drugging me, causing my fetus to be deformed and stillborn. Moreover, I had a premature delivery because Missy beat me, and she even prevented me from going to the hospital. It was thanks to our neighbors that I made it to the hospital alive. The elevator in our building should have surveillance, and the two elderly neighbors who helped me should be witnesses."
"Drugging you can be considered a serious offense and can be sentenced accordingly. According to the law, a fetus has personal rights and the right to life, which are protected by law. As for Missy beating you and causing premature delivery, the court will consider it during the trial, which could be beneficial for property distribution. However, everything depends on evidence!"
"I understand. I'll find the evidence and send it to you as soon as possible."
"Good!" Jason didn't waste any words. "Any other questions?"
I realized that every minute of Jason's time was precious, so I didn't beat around the bush and asked about the commission.
I didn't know what Paula had told him, and I forgot to ask her. If Paula comes back early, will she also get involved? The commission distribution should be their internal matter.
"Whatever! I was entrusted by someone, so the market rate will do!" Jason's words were very concise.
I felt like he was forced to take this case and was very reluctant.
Could it be that Paula did something to Jason for my sake?
I hope it's just my imagination.
After hanging up the call with Jason, I immediately sent a message to Paula, "Paula, you're amazing. I really owe you a big favor. Love you! Mr. Cook is indeed professional, and his level of service at market rates shocked me. Is it because of you?"
"Just be happy and know that you're not alone. Since Jason took your case, the odds are in our favor."
Paula is simply my best friend and never forgets to care about me.
We chatted for a bit more and then hung up as we both had things to do.
Since Jason mentioned that the drugging that harmed my body could also be used as evidence, I should get checked and keep the reports.
The supplement analysis would take the longest, but my physical examination results came out quickly.
I took the report to the hospital office. The doctor looked at it and frowned, "Did you just give birth? Did you eat any contaminated food or take any drugs during pregnancy?"
"No!"
I was full of sweetness and joy when I was pregnant, and I valued the child very much. I didn't touch anything that the doctor or other pregnant women suggested avoiding, including my favorite spicy food and drinks.
What does the doctor mean by this?
