Second Chance: Marrying into Wealth Chapter 294
Paula was a woman of action.
When she decided to test Marlowe, she was ready to go immediately.
Since she was going to visit, Paula, being meticulous, decided to bring some porridge to show her "sincerity."
Of course, we had to taste it first.
Paula couldn't help but give Tiana a thumbs up. "No wonder Melinda's put on some weight. Tiana, with your cooking skills, it's impossible not to!"
Who didn't love a good compliment?
Especially someone like Tiana, who was older and beamed with joy at such genuine praise.
"If you like it, come over to Ms. Turner's house often. You can join us for meals," Tiana said warmly.
Paula didn't hold back. "I won't be shy then. Just don't get tired of me, Tiana."
"How could I? Seeing lively young ladies like you makes me feel young again," Tiana replied immediately.
Paula playfully shook Tiana's arm, and Tiana enjoyed the attention.
Paula was indeed perfect.
She had a good family background, perfect looks and figure, and high emotional intelligence. Who wouldn't like her?
She was my treasure.
Then Paula said, "Tiana, do you mind if I take the leftover porridge to another patient?"
Tiana didn't mind at all. "If you're giving it to someone, why didn't you say so earlier? I could make a fresh batch. It might not be good if it gets cold."
She was not only unbothered but also considerate of us.
Paula quickly explained, "No need. It's for a friend nearby. They won't mind."
"Yes, as long as you don't mind us giving away the leftover porridge!" I added with a smile.
Though it was leftover, we had scooped it out when we ate, so the porridge in the thermos was clean and fresh.
After agreeing with Tiana, Paula and I took the thermos to Marlowe's room.
On the way, Paula couldn't help but complain, "If I had known Tiana's cooking was this good, I would have just bought some random soup from outside for her. She's getting a treat."
Paula didn't have a good impression of Marlowe and was quite disdainful.
I tried to persuade her, "Think of it as doing a good deed. After all, she's a patient, and it would be a waste to throw it away."
Paula was quickly convinced and smiled, "You're right, we shouldn't waste it!"
When we arrived at Marlowe's room, the door was open.
But Marlowe wasn't there.
Instead, a friendly-looking young woman in loose clothing was talking to Blair inside.
Blair was holding a thermos too, clearly there to bring Marlowe lunch.
Seeing Paula and me, she greeted us with a smile, "Ms. Ellis, Ms. Turner, you're here to see Ms. Grey, but she's not here right now."
"You're working hard, having to take care of Hayes and deliver meals to Marlowe. How's Hayes doing lately?" I nodded to Blair, showing concern.
After all, Quinlan had mentioned that Marlowe had called Hayes to the hospital to punish him, which had affected Hayes badly.
"Thank you for asking. Hayes is doing well now." Blair was genuinely kind to Hayes, so she was friendlier to those who cared about him.
We then looked at the young woman and asked Blair, "Who's this?"
Blair introduced her, and we learned she was Marlowe's therapist.
Blair also introduced us to her.
But we were more curious, "Where's Marlowe?"
The therapist seemed to know Jason, probably because he had referred her.
She replied, "Mr. Cook is pushing Ms. Grey around the garden for some fresh air."
She explained that for someone like Marlowe, going out for a walk was beneficial.
Mentioning Jason, Paula reacted, scoffing, "What a good man, going to such lengths!"
It was hard for me to associate Jason with the man by Marlowe's side.
After all, the Jason I knew was professional, aloof, and quiet.
But this top-notch lawyer kept surprising us with his dedication to Marlowe.
I tugged at Paula, stopping her from saying anything that might damage Jason's image.
Paula didn't say anything harsh, just asked, "When will they be back?"
The therapist explained, "About half an hour. They just left and usually walk for about thirty minutes."
Paula was impatient to wait.
So she suggested, "Why don't we go downstairs to find them?"
I nodded, "Let's go!"
After all, if we found them, we wouldn't waste half an hour.
Mainly, Paula probably felt it wasn't worth waiting so long for someone like Marlowe.
Following the therapist's directions, we headed to the garden where Marlowe was.
On the way, Paula couldn't help but complain, "I don't know what Jason sees in Marlowe. He doesn't seem like a fool. Why is he so obsessed with her?"
"Feelings are the hardest to understand," I shrugged, helpless.
Paula nodded, "True, feelings are the hardest to explain. Like Marlowe is fixated on Christopher, and Jason is fixated on Marlowe. But now, with Marlowe at her weakest, maybe Jason will finally win her over!"
"Wouldn't that be great?"
"What's great about it? If Marlowe is just moved, not in love, even if she agrees to be with Jason, she'll still think of Christopher. Over time, Jason might feel unbalanced, and it could affect his relationship with Christopher."
Feelings were the most hurtful!
"You seem very concerned about Jason?" I looked at Paula.
Paula immediately straightened up, "Nonsense, I'm just standing up for Christopher. He's the one who's most wronged!"
Anyway, she did care a lot about Christopher.
As we chatted, we reached the garden.
And we saw them not far away.
A gentle breeze blew, making the leaves dance around them.
Jason, handsome and outstanding, looked soft as he spoke to Marlowe.
Marlowe's frail body, half-embraced by Jason's bent posture, looked delicate and charming. She seemed a bit uneasy, adding to her vulnerability.
They looked like a couple, making it hard to look away.
Paula was the first to step forward.
I pulled her back, not wanting to disturb them.
At that moment, we heard Jason's voice, "Melinda is in trouble!"
