Christopher didn't respond. Instead, he turned his head and gazed out at the horizon.

I pouted in frustration. But my eyes also drifted toward the horizon. And then, I saw a breathtaking sight.

A round, red sun slowly rising, breaking free from the horizon's grasp. Its red hue grew more dazzling with each passing moment.

"Wow…" I murmured, unable to contain my awe.

Christopher didn't turn around. His voice was soft but powerful. "Anything that breaks through the darkness is always stunning."

It seemed like he was talking to himself, but I felt like those words were meant for me. I was deeply moved.

My life had been similar. Everything Lawrence gave me was darkness. Breaking free from that darkness, I should be greeted by a dazzling light, just like the sunrise.

“Yes!” I replied softly, affirming him and reminding myself.

After watching the sunrise, Christopher led me back to the car.

Once inside, Christopher told the driver, "Take us to the waffle place behind Aurora College."

"What? At this time…" I instinctively checked my phone. It was past seven.

Realizing the time, I panicked. "I forgot, I have work today. It's past seven, no time for breakfast. I'll be late. Sir, drop me off somewhere I can catch a cab. Christopher, you go ahead and enjoy your waffles. I need to get to the office."

After all, Christopher was the boss, and he didn't need to care much about punctuality. Today, he wanted waffles for breakfast, and with his sensitive stomach, he needed to eat something.

But as an employee, especially as the executive assistant, I couldn't afford to be late.

Suddenly, Christopher lightly tapped my head. "Are you silly? It's Saturday."

I finally realized, right, it was the weekend.

"Sorry, I've been so busy I lost track of the days," I apologized, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Christopher just gave a faint acknowledgment and then turned slightly to look out the window.

But I noticed the slight curve of his lips and the softening of his features. For a moment, I suspected Christopher was definitely laughing at me.

I felt a bit annoyed. Sure, it was a little funny that I got the days mixed up, but shouldn't my dedication be the main takeaway here? But he was the boss, so what he said went!

I decided not to argue and instead thought about the waffle place he mentioned.

"Christopher, I didn't know you knew about that place. Do you go there often?" I asked, curious.

That waffle place was one Paula had introduced me to. She was great at finding good food spots. I went once and fell in love with it, so I became a regular and even got to know the owners a bit.

It was a quaint little place, run by a young couple, not much older than me.

Christopher seemed to be reminiscing. After a moment, he replied, "The taste is good."

I was a bit surprised. Christopher was known for being a bit of a germaphobe. I didn't expect him to frequent such a small place. It seemed he had been there more than once.

Since it was still early, the driver made good time, and we soon arrived near the waffle place.

It was down a long, slightly narrow alley, so the car couldn't go in. The driver parked, and Christopher and I walked the rest of the way.

As soon as we entered, the owner greeted us warmly, immediately recognizing Christopher. "Christopher, you're here! So early, and you brought your girlfriend. How lovely…"

He paused mid-sentence, his eyes lighting up with surprise. "Melinda, I didn't expect Christopher's girlfriend to be you. What a coincidence! Or maybe it's fate, you both love our waffles."

The owner recognized me, and I was about to greet him warmly, but his words clearly misunderstood our relationship. I quickly tried to explain, "Sir, we're not…"

"I'm hungry. Two waffles, please," Christopher interrupted, his tone calm.

I glanced at him, unsure if he'd be upset about being linked with someone like me. After all, we were worlds apart, and I never had any delusions about us.

"Sure thing! You two really are a couple, sharing the same taste in waffles. Just a moment, I'll have them ready for you." The owner smiled and walked away before I could explain further.

I missed the best chance to clarify, and chasing after him would seem too desperate. Christopher seemed unfazed, his expression unchanged.

I changed the subject, hoping he didn't mind the owner's assumption, "You like the fruit flavor too? What a coincidence."

Christopher looked at me. "If I didn't know better, I'd think you were copying me. I remember you didn't eat much fruit at home."

His gaze was teasing, but not malicious. It reminded me of how I used to be a bit pretentious.

It was strange. Everyone thought I was gentle and well-behaved, even my parents. But my relationship with Christopher had always been tense. I was afraid of him.

But when he teased me, I would boldly retort. "I don't dislike fruit, I just don't like peeling it." I admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Christopher raised an eyebrow, surprised but amused. "So you're just lazy."

I didn't like the smell of fruit peels and didn't enjoy peeling them myself. But being called lazy didn't sit well with me. "So what if I'm lazy? I'm not eating your food, you can't judge me."

"So, if you were eating my food, I could judge you?" Christopher countered with a sly smile.

I couldn't think of a comeback. He was a genius, always quick-witted, and I couldn't win against him. I felt a bit frustrated.

Just then, the waffles were ready.

The owner, sensing the tension, said, "Christopher, you need to be gentle with your girlfriend. You're already so reserved, don't upset her."

I quickly corrected him, "Sir, I'm not his girlfriend."

The owner nodded knowingly. "I understand. Christopher can be blunt, but he's a good person, always helping others without seeking credit. He helped me with this place. You can be mad at him, but don't stay mad for too long. Couples are like that."

He smiled at us, clearly not believing my correction. I gave up trying to explain. At least no one else here knew us, so it wouldn't get back to anyone.
