Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 106
Elias pov
Seeing that we’re wasting more time than we should, we take off towards more stupid looking halls. Okay, the halls look like what they are, but they are stupid in my mind because I despise this feeling of fear and uncertainty I’m struggling with right now.
We walk through what literally feels like miles of endless hallways. One after another, twists and turns, avoiding guards and servants in our way. When we reach nearly the end of the hall, we stop and listen in.
From where we stand, I can hear two women, but it seems like I’m the only one who caught the sound of their voices, so I have to stop my stupid brothers from blowing our cover. I grab their shoulders to ensure they don’t go further and then quickly place a finger over my lips.
Everett and Ethan exchange glances but still remain silent as I point at the door not far from us and mimic wordless talking until they finally understand what I’m trying to say.
Both of them stay put as I sneak closer to the door and open it just a tad bit wider to ensure we will hear them clearer. There are two women, standing near the door. Thankfully we can use the position to hide ourselves from their gazes, so at least they don’t know we’re listening.
“Did you see the Luna queen to be? She’s so pretty, I can’t believe there’s such a beautiful face and body hidden under all those layers of dirt and grime.” One of the women exclaims, sounding beyond surprised.
“I mean, I admit she’s a sight for sore eyes, but I don’t get why she’s here. Why did she come back? Wasn’t she rejected and banished or some shit? Don’t get me wrong, everyone does as they please, but come on, she comes across as desperate and that isn’t cute.” Another woman’s voice joins in.
“What do you mean?” The first one asks.
There’s a pause before the other woman speaks up, her voice hushed and hard to understand, “well, didn’t she run away? The prince rejected and banished her months ago, but now, she’s back and being prepared for the Luna ceremony like some bigshot star. I just don’t get it, don’t get why she wants to run after someone who clearly doesn’t want her at all. Screams desperate to me, that’s all I’m saying.”
I barely hold back the gasp. So that’s what this celebration is about? That shithead Kaiden wants to force Ash to become his Luna after all?
The same as those women, I’m a little confused. Ash didn’t want to be here, which is a fact nobody around here knows as it seems, but Kaiden clearly is desperate to get her. But why? There must be more than the throne he’s trying to get if this is the extent he’s willing to go just to get what he wants.
The fucking secrets are starting to get on my nerves.
Looking over my shoulder, Everett, Ethan and I exchange glances, silently promising each other that we won’t allow that to happen. Ash is not going to become that asshole’s Luna even if I have to pay with my life to prevent that from happening.
Right as I’m about to motion for my brothers to start moving, a loud gasp on the other side of the door startles me. “What, you don’t know what’s really going on? The whole pack knows!”
The other woman doesn’t speak for a bit, I can almost imagine her looking around and checking if the coast is clear. “I don’t know what?” She finally asks.
I’m literally burning with need to find out what it is that this pack knows and we don’t. To ensure we get Ash out of here safe and sound, I need to know all the details, even the gorey and ugly ones. Shit, I wish there are none like those.
“The king sent the prince to look for her,” one of them says. I’m so confused I can’t tell the voices apart anymore. “From what others are talking about, I understood that the king won’t allow prince Kaiden to take the throne unless he does it with his fated Luna queen by his side. The king demands for pure blood heirs to come soon, so the prince left to find her. She’s here against her own will.”
The other woman gasps. “That poor thing. I mean, we never really liked her, but honestly, I feel sorry for her now. To be publicly rejected and banished from the pack just to be dragged back months later has to be awful. I can’t imagine how that makes her feel. Terrible things, awful, terrible things.”
“Shoot,” the other woman hisses. “I hear footsteps, must be the guards. Come on, let’s get back to work before they catch us slacking and gossiping.”
Their footsteps soon fade into the distance and are replaced by heavier ones. All three of us freeze, holding our breaths, ready to fight if the guards happen to find us, but thankfully, they pass by, talking and laughing, too distracted to notice even our scent, let alone our presence.
Earlier, we were lucky with passing the guards but now that we’re actually lurking around and hiding, neither of them would have to become a genius to know we aren’t supposed to be here.
Stepping away from the door, I look at my brothers and offer the only reasonable idea I have for now. “I know this sounds dumb, but how about we split? We can check more areas if we go separate ways and look less suspicious. I’m sure the king or his son will get to hear that we’re here soon, there’s no way nobody will raise an alert about three fucking identical Alphas.”
Ethan looks all in for my idea, as per usual, while Everett is a little hesitant but after a brief consideration, he concludes it’s for the best. Ethan doesn’t wait for a plan, the hothead just takes off and leaves us both behind.
“Where do you want to go?” I ask Everett, giving him the luxury of choice.
“I think I’ll go to the kitchen, that’s where the top gossip is. I’ll pretend to be a delivery guy or a waiter, whatever comes to my mind first. You head upstairs and check the bedrooms, I think Ethan will mind-link us if he finds her and we’re going to do the same if we do.”
“Okay,” I breathe out and slap Everett’s shoulder. “Stay safe, brother. Let’s bring our Ash home.”
