After the initial shock, Anno grins while I unlock the door and enter. Nathan, once again, follows hot on our heels although I’m unsure why.

If I were in any danger, I’d understand his need to follow me around, but I don’t think that's the case now.

“Welcome home, I don’t think I need to show you around for you to know where everything is. I cleaned out the biggest bedroom for you, it has a separate bathroom for your convenience too.” Anno explains as he walks around me and into the room.

A little unsure of how good of an idea this is, I still follow along.

Upon entering the bedroom, I notice a few bags placed on the bed and point my finger at them. “What’s that? Are those your things? And why am I getting the biggest room if this is your apartment? Isn’t that unfair towards you? I don’t want to be a burden, not to you.”

Anno laughs at my words and approaches to pull me into yet another bone crushing hug. “Stop worrying so much, Ash. The reason why you’re getting the biggest bedroom is that I want you to feel comfortable and have a sense of freedom even behind closed doors. Besides, I don’t really enjoy over the top things while you need them to heal.”

I frown but don’t object. I couldn’t remember the last time I had my own bedroom before I joined the Academy so this gesture really means a lot to me.

“As for the rest of your questions. First of all, you’re not a burden. You could never be one. Not to me. Yo’'re my best friend and for that, you deserve the world,” Anno says and pulls away from me.

The smile that spreads across his lips is so genuine that I nearly melt inside. He’s not the smooth talker who spills empty words for the sake of it, that’s for sure. Perhaps that’s why I feel so comfortable around him..

“Also, no, this isn’t unfair even in the slightest. Especially towards me. It would be if you walked in here and demanded stuff, but you never did it. I chose to clean the room for you, so you’ll just have to take it. Last but not least, those bags aren’t mine, they’re yours.” He grins.

“Mine?” Just in case, I point a finger at myself, mainly to show off the shock because I sure as hell know those aren’t my things.

I don’t own that many things in the first place!

And again, Anno just laughs, and uses the moment to ruffle my hair. “Yes, yours, silly. Prof and I went out shopping the other day while you were sleeping like a log. Figured you’ll need some more clothes and well,” Anno drags out while scratching the back of his neck and nervously looking over my shoulder.

“And well?” I repeat, patiently waiting for him to tell me what is going on here.

For Nathan and Anno to go out of their way and do some shopping for me, I believe something had to have happened.

I wouldn’t say those two get along exactly. Anno is very sketchy around Nathan and the Professor already made it clear that he doesn’t trust Anno.

“Well,” Anno drags again only to be saved by Nathan, clearing his throat.

“How about you discuss the details behind why we had to go shopping a bit later? I still need to make sure Ash gets comfortable here before I leave you to be. I can’t stick around for long, sadly, I’m still a professor, so I need to prepare some material for tomorrow’s classes too. Not to mention the two of you need to attend a class soon.”

My eyes dart between them both. They’re hiding something I really want to know. These days, it’s not only curiosity, it’s literally the need to know as much information as I can get.

Crossing my arms in front of my chest, I do my best to look angry and mean. Maybe now they will think twice and stop acting like little girls with their darn secrets.

“Didn’t you mention being hungry? I can prepare some food for you and then we can talk?” Anno offers, shifting his weight from one leg to another and glancing Nathan’s way.

As soon as my eyes focus on Nathan, he nods at Anno. Fucker thinks he’s slick and smooth, but the reality is that he isn’t. He is anything but smooth, that’s for sure.

Rolling my eyes, I drop my arms to my sides and groan. “Fine. Food, I really want something that isn’t that bland hospital food. I swear, the cooks there probably think the best spice in the universe has to be flour, that’s how tasty the food was,” I announce and shiver just remembering how I struggled to swallow every bite - how hard I tried to remind myself I had to eat if I wanted to get better.

Both Anno and Nathan laugh at my little rant before Nathan leaves us be. Anno doesn’t comment and instantly focuses on tossing together a few ingredients to make me a plate of pasta. Even in the process of cooking, the food smells a thousand times better than the one I ate at the hospital.

When Anno starts adding food on the plate, I sigh and look at him. “Now, will you tell me anything or do I have to torture you for the information? You said it yourself, we can talk while you cook, right?”

My best friend resembles nothing short of a deer caught in the headlights. Of course, as always, he stalls his life away, but eventually, Anno gives in and just lays out the facts. “Let’s say moving you out of the apartment wasn’t the easiest task and we were forced to leave most of your belongings behind, that’s why we did that shopping trip for you.”

I frown. How does that make sense now? “I don’t get it,” I admit.

Anno sighs and places the plate of food in front of me. “Ethan went kind of crazy when he found out we’re moving you out of their place and into mine. Let’s say it wasn’t pretty. The guy went berserk on the Prof at one point. If it wouldn’t have been from his brothers holding him back, I’m pretty sure the poor old man would be a bag of minced meat by now.”
