Alpha Sorrentino pov

I can’t believe they did it. My own sons, the future leaders of our legacy, acting so reckless and out of character. My mate and I, we both know first hand how crazed a wolf can become because of love, but our sons.. Well, I’m not sure what’s going on in their heads.

I sent their father to have a talk with them yesterday evening when the boys finally came home. He says all three claim Ash isn’t their mate, but all three also feel something for the girl.

This is a mess. I’d probably excuse their behavior if she ended up to be their mate, but all this because of a silly crush? I’ve known love makes one do stupid things, but this feels a little too much. Even for them.

Early in the morning, after having my breakfast, I send their father to get the boys. We need to have another discussion about this.

While he’s gone, I take my seat at the head of the table and wait in silence. Even being alone, I feel like thesion is trying to suffocate me, so just the thought of my sons and their father joining me only adds to the unease.

My mate enters the room first and sits to my left, looking unusually serious and remaining silent, which really is out of character for him.

My sons - my three stubborn, headstrong sons - take their places across from me. They look back at me with the same determination I see in the mirror every day.

I know they think they’re ready for whatever comes next, but the truth is, none of us are truly ready. We’re walking a razor’s edge, and if we make one wrong move, it could cost us everything.

“Alright,” I start, struggling to keep my voice steady. “Let’s hear it. What’s the plan if the Council fails?”

Ethan is the first to speak, as I knew he would be. He leans back in his chair with a wide grin, eyes gleaming with mischief. “Simple. We waltz right in, seduce the guards, and make them think we’re there to give a Royal performance. A striptease, perhaps? I’ve never done any moves around the pole, but I’m sure I would be oh so very good at it” he offers, grinning from ear to ear. “And if dancing fails, I can handle the jokes, Everett can show off his muscles, and Elias, well, he can stand there and look all broody and intimidating.”

Everett rolls his eyes and crosses his arms. “You’re not funny, Ethan,” he mutters. “What we should be doing is planning an attack. We can take the king’s territory by surprise, hit them fast and hard before they have a chance to regroup. We’re strong enough, and we have the numbers.”

“No,” Elias interrupts. “We can’t go in guns blazing. That’s exactly what they’ll expect. They’re on high alert after everything that’s happened, and the king is a dangerous man when cornered. He’s like a rat, infected with plague, ready to pounce. We need to be smart about this, not emotional.”

Ethan snorts, throwing his hands up. “Oh, here we go. Another one of Elias’s ‘smart’ plans. Let’s sit around and play the long game while Ash is out there alone, waiting for us to do something.”

“I’m not saying we do nothing,” Elias growls. “But if we rush in without a plan, we’re no better than they are. We need leverage, something that gives us an advantage without risking the lives of everyone in our pack.”

“Enough,” my mate cuts in, his deep voice echoes in the room. He leans forward, fixing each of our sons with a hard stare. “Elias is right. This isn’t about rushing in with brute force or relying on charm. This is about strategy. We have to be smarter than them, not faster, not stronger.”

Everett’s expression changes as he glances away, his jaw clenched. I know he wants to argue, but he’s holding himself back.

“We don’t have time to be smart,” Ethan protests, his grin fading as frustration takes over. “We’re running out of time, and every minute we sit here arguing is another minute Ash is-”

“Missing,” Elias finishes. “I know that, Ethan. But you don’t fix a mess like this by charging in blindly. You fix it by being ten steps ahead of your enemy.”

My mate nods in agreement. “We need to predict the king’s next move. He’s desperate, and desperate men make mistakes. If we’re careful, we can use that against him.”

Ethan looks like he’s about to argue again, but I raise a hand, silencing them all. “That’s enough,” I say, taking over the conversation for good. Someone has to be the voice of reason and for now, all four of my men should listen to me. “We’ve been going in circles for the past hour, and we’re no closer to a solution than when we started.”

Elias opens his mouth to object, but I shake my head. “No. We wait. We watch. We don’t act until we know exactly what the king’s next move will be.”

Silence falls over the room as my words sink in. My sons don’t like it, but they know better than to challenge me when I’ve made up my mind. They’re Alphas-in-training, but I am still the Alpha, and they will obey.

Just then, there’s a knock at the door. One of the guards steps inside, his face pale and eyes wide with what looks like horror. “Alpha,” he whispers. “There’s a call for you. One of the Council Elders. He says it’s urgent.”

I feel unease rise within me at those simple words. I nod and rise to my feet, doing my best to appear calm and collected for the sake of my sons. “I’ll take it in the office,” I smile at the guard and then glance at my family, all of them watching me like hawks. “Wait here. I’ll be back soon.”

The guard steps aside and I quickly leave the room before my sons or mate decide to follow me. My heart starts raging in my chest as I enter the office and close the door behind me. Without missing a beat, I rush to the phone and accept the call. “ Alpha Sorrentino,” I answer.

“Alpha,” the Elder’s voice is so tense, my blood turns to ice. “There’s been an attack.”

“What?” I growl and grip the phone tighter. “What happened?”

“It happened during the ceremony. The king, he told us to stay, told us the girl is Kaiden’s true mate and they want to make it official. We agreed to see it with our own eyes, and when the ceremony started,” he stops and takes a breath. “Hunters. They swarmed the ceremony hall, and there was chaos. Ashley, she’s gone. No one can find her.”

My heart skips a beat. My whole body freezes, but I push myself to keep questioning him. “What do you mean she’s gone?”

“She disappeared in the chaos. The guests scattered, the guards are searching, but it’s like she vanished. We’ve got teams looking everywhere, but there’s no trace of her.”

I close my eyes and take a steadying breath. This wasn’t part of the plan, none of this was supposed to happen. “Find her,” I growl. “Do whatever it takes, but find her. And keep me updated.”

“Yes, Alpha,” he whispers and ends the call.

My hands shake as I place the phone back on the desk. The worst has happened and now, there’s no saying how bad it could go. If my sons find out about this, they will lose it. Especially Ethan.

However, as much as I want to shield my babies from this, I can’t withhold something this important. I could never forgive myself if I did. I take a moment to prepare myself and return to my family.

“We have a situation,” I announce before anyone can question me. “You were right, the king was planning a ceremony for his son and Ash. However, the ceremony was interrupted. There was an attack, and in the chaos, Ash has gone missing.”

The room turns to chaos within seconds. Questions, arguments, accusations, they offer it all. But instead of reacting like my sons do, I raise a hand to silence them all. “We will figure this out. But for now, we wait. We gather information, we watch, and we do not act until we know exactly what we’re dealing with. Do I make myself clear?”

One by one, they nod, even Ethan even though I can see the rage burning in his eyes. They’re ready to act, but I know they will wait simply because they trust me. And while a part of me wants to act too, I know better than that. First, we need to figure out where Ash might have gone. If anything, she’ll try to find a safe space to hide, not run. I don’t know the girl yet, but I’m sure she’s smarter than everyone thinks.
