Nathan pov

Just like I thought, it seems I can pull any information from this guy. Isn’t this a lucky coincidence?

Clearing my throat, I slowly raise my hands to place my palms on his chest and push Gio away. He instantly tries to dip his head and press his lips to mine, but I turn my head so he manages to only peck my cheek.

Immediately, he releases me and steps away to clear his throat. “I understand. This has to be a shock for you. Not only is your mate a man, but he’s a hideous one at that. It’s fine. You’ll get used to me soon enough. The more time we spend together the closer we will grow. There are a few more stops we need to make before we return home so you can ride shotgun. Kaiden hates it anyway and if he doesn’t like something, he can always take a separate ride.”

What in the land of delusions is this guy talking about? Me, following him? Hell to the holy no. Never.

I barely found my Alpha again, there is no chance I would leave her side now. Especially for an enemy, for fuck’s sake.

“Don’t you think you’re moving a little too fast?” I ask and cross my arms in front of my chest to show how frustrated I feel now.

In response, he just laughs. “No, not too fast, not even close. I’ve spent years, fucking decades, looking for you and now that I’ve found you, by accident or not, you really think I’ll let go of you easily? That I will leave you behind in this shit hole? No, baby, you’re coming home with me.”

“No.” I say as calmly as I can and quickly start walking away from him.

Perhaps Gio thinks we are playing some sick game of cat and mouse, because he instantly starts following me, but I’m not playing.

By the time he catches up with me and wraps his arms around me to stop me from running away, I’m fuming.

The guy is completely clueless. Yes, he doesn’t know a thing about me, where I come from and what his people did to mine, but that doesn’t give him any free pass out. If I said no - no still means no.

“Hell to the no, baby, you ain’t running away from me ever again. I’m not changing my mind and neither am I putting up with your silly little tantrums. I have a lifetime of experience dealing with a spoiled brat, if I can withstand Kaiden, I can deal with you too. Don’t underestimate me.”

“It’s hard to underestimate you,” I snap back and try to break out of his hold.

“How about,” Gio snarls through gritted teeth. “How about instead of insulting me and fighting me, you agree to sit down and talk? We’re both grown men, we can deal with our differences as such and come to find common grounds.”

I hate to admit this, but Gio has a point. Running away is the only thing I want to do, but I really need that load of information. Besides, I’m supposed to be the level headed one, after all, I’m a respectable Professor, not a teenage boy.

“Okay, let’s sit down and talk. Now let me go,” I agree, still a little sharper to let him know I’m not happy with where this is going.

“Great,” Gio laughs and lets me go. “I will pick you up for dinner at seven. No need to tell me where you live, I will find that out myself and make a reservation in that fancy restaurant I saw on our way here. I’m sure you’ll like it.”

Before Gio can think of something, I stop him. “No.”

He looks at me, eyebrow raised, confusion written all over his face. “What? You don’t like fancy dinners? It’s fine, we can go wherever you want to, I don’t mind sitting in the parking lot of a fast food place if that’s what you prefer either. Just thought I should spoil you a little for our first date and all.”

As Gio raises his hand to scratch the back of his neck, looking all sorts of uncomfortable, I find myself thinking that despite his rough around the edges manner and looks, he’s actually a little adorable. That’s a thought I kill with a shovel and dig deep, very deep, down the moment it crosses my mind.

“No for dinner,” I announce, still a little lost of words.

“Lunch? Breakfast? Snack time? I don’t know anything about you, babe, you’ll have to give me a hint or two if you want me to nail this date and make sure you enjoy it.”

I roll my eyes at him. “No to date, Gio.”

Apparanately, my attempt to reject his advances has an opposite reaction because he instantly groans and tosses back his head, “fuck, I love how my name sounds when you say it.” Yeah, definitely not the effect I was going for.

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I take a few deeper breaths to ground myself and calm down. I suppose I need to spell everything out for this guy to take a hint. “I agreed to talk, not go on a date with you. Talk about the ideas you have in your mind, which by the way are outrageous. It’s barely the beginning of the school year, I’m not quitting my job for some adventures with you.”

What I really want to say is that he has to be mad, sick in the head and completely diluted to think I will ever follow someone who is responsible for the death of my Alpha, Luna, pack and my family. No way.

My mind is working overtime, trying to come up with a tricky question to find out why Kaiden and Gio are here without raising any suspicions, but the lunatic does that for me without me asking.

“But what then? You’re mine and I want to take you with me. Kaiden isn’t here to join the damn school, he needs to find his fated mate because the brat was stupid enough to reject her and she ran away. Unless he gets her back, he’s not getting the throne. I’m here to make sure he doesn’t fuck everything up even more and we’re already running out of time. I’ll have to leave soon, I don’t want to leave you behind. I barely got to hold you for what, a minute tops? I’m already addicted, I can’t just let you slip through my fingers like some quick fling. You’re my future.”

He tries to take a step closer, but I raise my hand to stop him and laugh. Deep down, I know I will forever relive this moment and regret it once time comes, but now, my happiness or his doesn’t matter. “You don’t know my name, didn’t bother to ask for it and now you’re calling me your future?”

As expected, Gio’s face falls, a look of deep rooted pain crosses it, but to my surprise, it’s quickly replaced by one of amusement. “That’s right, I didn’t ask for your name, all I need to call you is mine.”
