Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 185

Gio pov

After the king storms away, the guards stand around my cell awkwardly. They exchange glances and I know without asking what they are thinking.

The guys are scared that the king might return soon, so letting me out of the cell might cost them their jobs and life's.

“It's fine, guys,” I break the silence and force a smile. “This cell isn't that bad, it might be far worse. I don't mind laying around for a bit, or even the entire stay here really.”

While I hope my words reassure them, at least a little, neither looks impressed or happy with the situation.

That, too, I understand. These men are fighting themselves to stay loyal to their king. Every face I see around here is that of a man, who I've known as someone who's always fought for what is right.

But now, they're forced into a situation where right is wrong and vice versa. I don't envy them at all.

“Gio,” one of them speaks up and clears his throat. “You know that we're on your side, right?” He asks, sounding so unsure of himself, I actually feel bad for the guy.

“I know,” I grin again, managing to make my smile appear more genuine than the previous one. “And I understand that you're between a rock and a hard place here. I don't mind, really. You guys have done far too much for me already and I'm insanely grateful for that.”

The guys exchange glances, looking like they've been having a silent discussion to come to a conclusion and take action.

From where I stand, I feel like an outsider next to them. All I want is to hear those thoughts, to use the extra of them possibly giving me an answer or two, but I get none of those.

I get silence. Deafening, heavy, suspenseful silence that keeps me on the edge, waiting and hoping like a fool.

Oh, the things I would give up just to hear one of them offer to get me out and help me get to my mate. He's holding all the answers to my worries and pain - just one look at my mate would be enough to make it all better. I know it would.

“Listen,” one of them finally breaks the silence. “We have been thinking and we believe we might have a good idea. Only if you're on board with the said idea, of course, it's quite risky.”

I scan their faces, half hoping that somehow, I'll be able to read their thoughts and figure out the proposition.

But as always, they give out nothing. I think I sleep a flicker of hope in one of the guards eyes, but it fades just as quick as it appeared and now, I'm genuinely worried about what this idea might be.

“Okay,” I breathe out, struggling to believe I'm actually considering going through with whatever they have on their minds. “Shoot, just spit it out and let me know what you're planning. We don't have much time to waste on conversations anyway so I'd rather get over this.”

The guards exchange glances, once again, having that silent conversation only they understand.

“We think we can get you out of here.”

I almost choke on my spit. The statement isn't just bold, it's downright crazy. To think that any of them can actually go against the king himself without suffering the consequences is insanity.

I shake my head and take a step back. “No.” I almost bark, the anger I feel is slowly starting to cloud my judgment. I can't allow any of them to put themselves into danger just to get me out. It's too risky. “That's not happening. I'll suffer through my punishment and get out the right way, there's no need to risk your well being like this. I need you guys to think about this. And seriously think, not just weigh the options. Do any of you have the luxury of having your family taken care of and fed if you're out of the picture?”

I don't think that any of them understand how much I'd struggle to live with their blood on my hands. Truth be told, I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to these guys while they tried to get me out.

“It's not that serious, Gio. We have an idea. Listen to us, will you?” The guard insists as his friends nod in agreement.

I can't believe this. They're acting like I'm the crazy one while they are the ones offering to pull off this insane idea. How twisted is that?

While I'm definitely against the whole idea in its core, I still give in and agree to listen. Just hearing them out won't harm anyone. I hope so.

“Okay, tell me what you have in mind and I'll share my thoughts on the matter after I've heard you out,” I agree and sit down, more or less to ground myself for the fuck up of a plan I'm about to listen to.

“We think we can get you out, that's already clear. Our idea is that we literally beat each other up and lay here until one of our pals finds us. It'll give you enough time to sneak out with some help. We'll play it out like we needed you out of the cell for some reason, maybe cleaning because of respect and high rank, you know, and you attacked us. That's how you got out. Nobody gets blamed because we followed the law, did everything the right way and you took a chance. You're already in deep with the king, so turning around and leaving wouldn't be a surprise at all.”

“Madness,” I chuckle and shake my head. “Your idea is complete madness. So much so that it might actually work. I'm not saying that I'm in, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what the next few days have in store for me, okay? In the meantime, fill in the paperwork for the cleaning. If you're pretending to follow the law, do it the right way. Even if the prisoner is of high rank, you're still supposed to schedule the cleaning and get the king's approval before you do anything.”
