Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 192
Gio pov
Hours after the discussion with the guards, I'm sitting in my cell, thinking over my life choices.
I've made many mistakes, done some awful things and hid even more, but I never assumed that I'd ever deserve spending my days and nights locked in the cells.
Since there is nothing but my thoughts, I let them wander to my mate. I wonder what is he up to.. if he even misses me if only a little bit?
Sure, I might have come onto him too strong, but I couldn't help it. As soon as I figured out who he is to me, there was no turning back.
From day one, he became the center of my universe, even if he absolutely despises the fact.
It would be cool if I would have a way to reach out to him, to have a single conversation just to build up a little more strength to get through this mess, but I don't have anything.
“Gio, they're bringing someone down here. Try not to react, the king is coming too,” one of the guards mutters in passing and I instantly tense up.
The last person I need to see right now is my ex-best friend. He has plenty of things to do, more important matters to attend to, so I think it would be for the best if he could just leave me be.
“Got it,” I mutter once I realize the guard has stopped and is waiting for a reaction from my end.
As soon as he gets what he wants, the guy rushes away and steps into the line of other guards, who are waiting for their king.
I don't bother to glance their way, being too familiar with the sound of his voice and footsteps to care and wait to see the asshole.
When he enters the cells, I hear him mumble something to the guards and soon after, a loud scream echoes against the walls of the tunnels.
A cold shiver runs down my spine as I realize it's a woman who's screaming.
My heart nearly stops beating in my chest. Since when does he deem it okay to imprison women? What could she possibly do to earn a punishment like this?
I stay put and fight my own instincts to stay out of their business. If I wasn't in this place, I'd probably argue for the woman, insist no matter what she did, she doesn't deserve to spend a single woman down there.
Their whispered conversation drags out, so much so that I refuse to pay any attention to them. Well, at least until I hear his footsteps approach my cell and stop right in front of it.
“I suppose you have finally changed your mind, haven't you?” The king asks, sounding as smug as ever.
“No point in answering the question since the brat is home. Don't beat around the bush and spit it out. Why are you approaching me?” I grumble, making sure I sound uninterested in his presence.
“Yeah,” he chuckles and shakes his head. “You got me there. Kaiden returned with his mate, so I don't need your help with that situation anymore. I do, however, need your help with something else. The rules remain the same - your freedom for what I need.”
I frown, considering if I have anything to lose at all. I could tell him to get so royally fucked, he could forger his own name, but I bite my tongue to keep the words unspoken.
Instead, I poke around with a question. “What do you want?”
“Gio,” he gasps and slaps a hand over his chest, faking a pained expression. “What's with the hostility? Aren't you happy to help a friend out?”
I roll my eyes and refuse to answer. As much as I want to spit in his face that we are no longer friends, that might lead to more consequences, which is the last thing I need right now.
Since I don't react to his taunts, the king drops the stupid attitude and steps closer. “I need some advice. If it's good and works out, you get your freedom. If your advice ruins everything, you can kiss the said freedom goodbye.”
“Gosh,” I gasp and place my hand over my chest, mimicking him like a fucking parrot. “What's with the hostility? Aren't you happy to help a friend out?”
He looks completely dumbfounded. I'd actually pay to see this look on his face at least one more time. It's precious.
But of course, that would never happen, so I have to suck it up and live with whatever I can get.
“If being difficult is what you prefer, fine by me. Take the offer or leave it, you have five seconds to decide,” he growls.
“I'm interested to hear you out, I can make the decision after I get the details,” I offer.
He starts pacing around, clearly deep in thought, so I honestly don't believe he will agree with my terms.
Men like him aren't too fond of being caged by rules that aren't their own. Miracles happen, but those are rare, and I don't expect one from him.
“The Council is arriving soon,” he trails off without voicing his choice.
I arch an eyebrow, instantly trying to come up with ideas about why the Council might have decided to visit the pack.
They never come here. If anything, they can send a letter or call once a year at best, but they never arrive personally. Whatever is going on has to be grand, because for them to visit someone is a massive deal.
“Someone's thing to set me up, to avoid unnecessary details. They have already met with the Council and there's some details that put me in a pretty bad place with this situation. I can't get rid of those things on a whim, but I can't let them know I still have those things. In your opinion, what is the best way for me to approach this situation? How can I fool the Council into turning their target on someone else?”
