Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 116
Ashley pov
“Was he injured too?” I gasp, my eyes widening.
Just the thought that my dad put his life in danger for someone who protected a pack member makes my heart warm. He was a true Alpha, a man of honor and he knew that he had to do the right thing. Always.
I recall some instances where even as a kid, I knew my father was meant to lead. The moon Goddess saw the potential in him, trusted his abilities and damn, did she make the right decision.
From the limited amount of memories I still have, I recall he never made decisions based on his emotions. Unlike other Alphas, father always insisted he had to hear both sides of the situation and then think about it. He didn’t blow up on someone, didn’t abuse his pack and most importantly, he loved them all as his children.
And even more, he loved my mother and me. If it weren’t for Kaiden’s vicious pack and his father’s greed, today, I might still lay in my father’s arms and dream about what the future holds for me. But, because of those monsters, I don’t have it anymore.
They took everything I ever held dear and there I was, standing next to him and giving up? How could I stop fighting?
No, that was a mistake I would never repeat and thankfully, now I have Constantine on my side - the closest connection I have to the life I lost, a reminder that I can’t give up. My parents won’t give up and I won’t either.
“He wasn’t injured, not in the slightest,” Constantine chuckles and shakes his head. “Your father was good, I’d say even too good for his age. We all agreed he had to be gifted. He was far too fast and stronger than other Alphas, an enigma of sorts. However, that didn’t last long because after he met your mother and had you, as one of the strangers and powerful Alphas known, finally he had a weakness.” His last words are a mere whisper, but I instantly realize what he’s implying.
“So,” I drag out the word and swallow. “Until he met mom, he was basically untouchable. Then, they had me, and his enemies decided to use what he loves the most against him? Is that what you’re saying?”
“Yes,” he nods. “That’s exactly what I’m saying. Anyway, we’re talking about what happened before you were born. So, I woke up in the hospital with him holding my hand. Once he realized I was awake, he instantly thanked me for my sacrifice and promised a lifetime of protection whenever I needed it. Of course, I tried to tell him no, insisting I just wanted to help the girl in need, but he was adamant to ensure I would remain close. That’s how our friendship grew. Later, I introduced my bear brothers to your father and his pack, and the rest, well, it was history at that point.”
“When the pack was attacked, were you here?” I try to keep my voice steady and hard, not to show many emotions are raging within me. I have a feeling that the outcome of that attack would be very different if the bears were around and helping.
A lone tear rolls down his cheek as Constantine shakes his head and looks down at his feet. “No, I wasn’t. I was supposed to arrive on that day, but I was too careless traveling and got my foot stuck in a bear trap. By the time I managed to get out and finally reached my destination, the pack was gone, burned to the ground. I didn’t know you were alive until rumors started surfacing.” He whispers.
I perk up at his words. “Wait, what rumors?”
Constantine’s demeanor doesn’t change much. He keeps staring at his feet like he’s deeply ashamed of what he’s about to say. “Rumors about you. About you being taken by them. About the king trying to create a breeding machine out of you. There are things you probably don’t know, but your father was powerful and your mother was too. Both of them came from pure bloodline Alpha families. Their ancestors have always been paired with other Alphas, no Beta or Omega blood, which makes you a rarity. In fact, most of the families with a bloodline as yours are gone. You might be one of the last ones, if not the last. Can you imagine how powerful your children will be?”
All I can do is gape at him. I knew my parents were a force to be reckoned with, but when they died, I wasn’t old enough to start questioning them about our bloodline so I never knew. Nobody ever bothered to tell me more either. I’ve lived my life so hidden from the truth, so sheltered in a way that I don’t know anything.
“I believe that is the reason why the king raised an alarm when you left. Or, when his stupid son banished you. I heard the rumors about you being alive all these years, but I refused to believe them. It is my fault that you had to suffer for so long. I couldn’t allow myself to believe you’re still alive, out there with them, just to try to get you back and be met with disappointment. The bloodbath I saw in your father’s pack, I was sure you were gone too.”
Nudging his side, I try to force a smile. “So, why did you decide to come now?”
Constantine barks out a laugh. “We have connections with many packs and one of the wedding guests caught you being carried in there. As stupid as it sounds, she snapped a photo and sent it to some of her friends, who happen to be people I know. As soon as I saw that photo, I knew it was you. That’s when I realized the mistake I’ve made by ignoring those rumors, called for my brothers and we went for it. They, the same as me, regret not acting faster, but we all truly hope that one day you might forgive us. It’s up to you, but if you decide you don’t want to be associated with a bunch of old bears, we will understand.”
“And then what? What happens to me?” I ask.
“We will figure out where you feel safe, where there is someone you can trust and then, we will arrange everything to ensure you get there safely. From there, we will always stay around - at a safe distance so you never know we’re there, but at least we know nothing bad happens. And if it does, we’re close enough to save you.”
