Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 135
Him pov
“Do you think that guy was telling the truth?” Marcus asks, nudging my side.
We have been on our way up the mountain for hours and I still see no end to this stupid journey.
There are only a few things that annoy me more than aimless wandering around the woods and one of those is stupid conversations.
I'm here to fulfill my purpose, not to have conversations with beginners and build friendships. Some of the guys who joined this mission haven't been in one before, so this is their first experience.
During the initial days of training, I saw how “serious” they are about our purpose. Most of them acted like fucking children, and ran around nearly holding hands and giggling.
“Don't care,” I mumble under my breath, seeing that Marcus has no plans to back off until I finally speak up.
“Oh my God, it speaks, it actually speaks!” Marcus screams, sounding all sorts of stupidly happy.
There is a reason why I've been keeping away from masses of people, especially the newcomers who decided to join our rows. Most of them are too careless to survive, too stupid and blind to see that there's more to life than their parents have told them.
There are monsters, lurking in the shadows, ready to lunge at any given moment, unprovoked. Those same monsters that we are supposed to fight and kill. Same monsters who multiply worse than diseases and cause so much harm to the human kind that without radicals like us, we're all doomed.
“Zip it, Marcus,” I groan and slap my hand on his shoulder, squeezing it painfully enough for Marcus to hiss in pain. “They are watching, moron. Always watching. We do not get many chances in our line of work, so if you don't want to kiss your life goodbye, I'd suggest you shut the fuck up and pay attention. We're too close to the target area to play around.”
“Calm down, pal,” Marcus hisses and pulls my hand off his shoulder. “I was only trying to be a friend, damn it. There's no need to remind everyone about the ducking stick you have shoved so far up your asshole, you have a permanent leftover of its taste in your throat.”
I roll my eyes and step away from the fool. He's too young, too naive to understand anything, especially our purpose.
And for me, this shit is personal. It's not only that my ancestors built the hunters community and led our people towards greater good for generations to follow. I've been in the crossroads and had to make the greatest choice in my lifetime, I've made the wrong fucking choice and I paid the price.
But it wasn't enough. It would never be enough for those beasts. Monsters know no mercy, so I learned how to feel none myself.
And now, they're going to pay. Every single one of them. Soon after I get rid of the last descendant of that wicked woman, I'll focus all of my rage towards the rest of them.
One by one, I will hunt, torture and eventually, kill every single monster I can get to. And when my time comes, I will die a happy man, with no regrets and a whole lot of blood on my hands.
Just imagining all of that brings a smile to my lips. No one but me knows anything about my plans, about the things I'll do once my rage is set free. Quite frankly, I have a feeling that even the hunters will be surprised at the extent I'm willing to go to just to reach my goals.
“Fuck, you're so creepy when you smile. Don't do that ever again,” Marcus whines, bringing me out of the blissful fantasies.
I both hate him for doing that and want to thank the fool. Living in my head isn't a great idea, given how I wouldn't be able to go further with my plan if I get stuck in my mind. But then again, the thoughts are so goddamn pleasant, it's hard to drop them.
The only paradise I've ever known is hidden in my mind, in those violent scenarios I love to imagine for my own peace.
“Whatever,” I grumble and move to walk in front of him, not next to him.
The move is more strategic than anything else. I know how Marcus is, know his stupid ego and sense of pride. We're still relatively far from our goal, so the moron will start insisting he's supposed to lead the search and when the monsters strike, I'll watch them slay the weaker links before I attack the monsters when they're already tired.
“Hey, man, wait up! I don't get why you're so adamant to avoid everyone and keep people at arms length from you. I just want to be friends,” he whines, following on my heels.
I roll my eyes again. Just a couple of more times and my eyes might get stuck in my skull, so I should be more careful around this bunch of idiots.
“I'm not interested in making friends, I'm interested in a successful mission and the ability to return home in one piece, preferably still alive.” I keep my tone as monotone as possible, not to give out how annoyed I am with his presence.
“I get that you're super passionate about this gig and all, but I don't understand why you're insisting on pushing people away. Makes no fuckin’ sense to me, man. Seriously, we can fight side by side and still be friends, you know. And also, don't think I haven't noticed how weird you are this time. I mean, you're weird always, but this time you're super weird. Extra weird. Almost like you have a personal agenda this time,” he keeps ranting, but I focus my attention on anything but his voice.
Marcus isn't the first one who has tried to build friendships with me, and he definitely won't be the last one who fails the little personal mission.
Looking around us, I notice something in the distance and smile, realizing what I've caught on. My eyes focus on the brief shine of light up in the mountains and I stop, pointing my finger in the direction to encourage Marcus to go first. “Look, we're getting closer. The light up there, that's our target.”
