Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 111
Ashley pov
While my eyes are still closed, Constantine moves a little closer, I can tell by the insane wave of heat that engulfs me. The same heat that radiated off his body when I sought comfort in the moment of great distress.
“Don’t open your eyes just yet, I’ll turn on the light, maybe that’ll make you feel more at ease. I know I feel like shit when I wake up after long winters and find myself surrounded by nothing but darkness in a place that feels unfamiliar,” he mutters.
I chuckle at his admission. “Didn’t think the whole hibernation thing happened to bear shifters as well. Honestly, I assumed it was for actual bears, not half-humans too.”
Constantine adds a chuckle of his own. It’s rich and deep, like music to my ears. I don’t understand why, but being near him puts all my senses at ease. I don’t feel like I’m in danger or he could ever do anything to harm me, but my first opinions have proved me wrong many times before, so I at least attempt to stay alert.
The flip of the light switch startles me a little, not enough for me to jump, but my body does jerk visibly. It’s another thing that amuses Constantine, but this time, he lets out a bark of laughter, even though he clearly tries to muffle it behind his hand.
“I’m going to touch you now, don’t be scared,” he whispers and I swear, I can hear a sharp intake of breath when his fingers run over the skin of my wrist.
Ever so carefully, he grasps my wrist and slowly tugs me away from the wall. “We can sit down on the bed and talk while my friends prepare some food for you. They’re clumsy as fuck, so trust me, it’s best if we stay away from the kitchen until they’re done. I, for one, don’t feel like being drowned in flower and egg wash.”
“Okay,” I breathe out the word, my eyes still closed. Maybe I’m being absolutely stupid doing this, but I trust Constantine enough to follow him blindly. So far, he hasn’t done anything to make me seriously doubt him.
Based on previous experiences, the suspicions will always be there, I won’t exactly let go of those, but everyone knows it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Slowly, Constantine guides me to the bed and even holds onto me as he helps me sit down. Once I’m sure I won’t be blinded by the light, I open my eyes and glance up at him with a smile, muttering, “thank you.”
Constantine returns the smile but doesn’t say anything. The weird thing is that he also doesn’t let go of me, now more than ever, holding my hand as if his life depends on it.
“I need to tell you so many things, but I also need you to remain as calm as you can. Many things will come as a shock, so be prepared. Can you promise me you’ll do your best to remain as calm as possible?”
I frown but answer with a quick nod. The truth is that I can’t promise a certain reaction if I don’t have any idea what this man is about to tell me, but the least I can do is try.
Constantine blows out a heavy, long breath and nods too. Then, reluctantly, almost painfully slowly, he releases his hold from me and sits next to me. At first, I assume he’ll try to sit close, but at least that doesn’t happen when he keeps some distance between us.
“I have mates,” I blurt out, just to ensure it’s out there. I don’t want to give this larger than life man any ideas about what this closeness might bring us to.
“Mates? As in multiple?” Constantine asks and frowns at me.
I nod, a little more energetic than previously.
“Isn’t that prick who wanted to marry you the mate? Or have I gotten all of this completely wrong?”
Since I don’t want to share every painful moment of my life with somebody who can still be considered a stranger, I give him a brief rundown of everything. “So yeah, I don’t have one mate, I have three of them given to me as a second chance. If anyone were to ask me, I’d choose the triplets over that asshole any time of the day.”
“The triplets?” Constantine repeats.
“Yes, haven’t you been paying attention to what I say? The triplets, all Alphas, we go to the same school where I pretended to be a guy to hide from Kaiden and his damned pack of murderers.”
Constantine gulps and glances at me. “You’re talking about Sorrentino triplets, right? I haven’t heard of any other Alphas having triplet sons.”
“Yeah,” I shrug as if it’s no big deal, which for me, it isn’t, but for this man it seems like a massive thing for some reason.
“Do you realize just how much danger you are in? Do they know about you being their mate?” His voice sounds hoarse, like his throat has just dried up all of a sudden.
“They might have an idea, but they don’t know the facts. I haven’t told them and until I finally gather the courage and strength to accept Kaiden’s rejection, they won’t feel the mate pull.” I parrot the words the Professor told me since I don’t have any idea how this works myself.
“Okay, how about we put Sorrentino’s on the backburner for now and focus on what I actually came here to tell you,” Constantine offers with a slight smile.
A part of me really wants to know what he knows about the triplets and their family. If Constantine claims that I’m in danger, it must mean something important. But then again, the other part really wants to know more about my parents - I was too young when they were killed, so the memories of them that I do have are weak at best.
“I want to know more about my family and how exactly you guys are connected. Not just the surface stuff, but everything. Don’t hide a single detail.”
