Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 178
Elias pov
A few hours after the Council left, father invited me into his office while mom took Everett and Ethan out in the gardens.
Both of them appear more tense than I am, as always, showing far more emotions than they should.
One of the things that I learned during our early Alpha training was that sometimes, no matter how triggered you are about the situation, emotions don't matter.
You are obligated to keep your head leveled and focus on your goals, the better of the pack, not yourself, so if your feelings cloud your judgment and rid you of logical thinking, you're putting the whole pack in danger.
Right now, he's skimming through some papers, the sound of the paper the only sound that surrounds us, as if father is testing me.
Maybe he's building up suspense, I'm not sure, but either way, I don't like this. Don't like it at all.
I sit unmoving for another twenty or so minutes, counting the seconds in my mind, until he finally scribbles his signature on one of the documents, pushes it aside and looks at me.
“In your opinion, how did the meeting go?” He asks all of a sudden, as if he doesn't know my thoughts already.
I chuckle and shake my head. “A waste of time, if you ask me.”
Father's eyebrow shoots up, the look on his face nothing short of surprised. “Alright. Care to elaborate on the matter?”
I don't know why I'm the only one being questioned, but I've never doubted the things he does so I'm not planning to start to do that anytime soon either.
“Well,” I drag out and lean into the chair, making myself a little more comfortable since it feels like this conversation might drag out. “It's simple, really. They came here to deal with an issue created by one of their own, literally flaunting how shit scared they are to start shit with a pack that can survive without their silly little alliance. All in all, to me, it felt like they arrived to soap up your ass, not to really show regret about their inability to control that freak and his son.”
Father hums and nods. “I can't help but agree. As you know, they have never gone out of their way to visit the packs that aren't part of their precious alliance. If anything, the only visits happen during attacks to overrule and conquer. In our case, it's really different. Sadly, they've understood far too late that their main priority should've been ensuring they have the king and his son on a short leash. Power does awful things to people, we all know that.”
“Are you giving them the week they asked for?” I blurt out, unable to hold back.
The Council made their intentions clear, tried their best to leave unharmed and in one piece, but they also made demands. Or should I say, their pleas?
Looking at my father from where I sit, reading the expression on his face is impossible. For once, I'd like to hear his thoughts as they are - unfiltered, real, raw.
Would be pretty cool to gain an ability to read minds for a day or so, just to poke around others' thoughts in situations like this one.
“Don't,” he chuckles. You might not have the ability yet, but as your father and Alpha, I do. Trust me, you don't want to hear the filth that's going on in my mind every time your mother is near me. My own father used to blush and choke on his drinks every time that amazing woman entered the room where we stood.”
I arch a questioning eyebrow, wondering if he would really go down the same route in this situation.
As an answer, father just shrugs and grins like a teenager. “Can't help it. Hard to keep your thoughts in check and hands off the prize once you've found it. I trust you will be the same once your mate comes along.”
Yeah, it's easier said than done. For father, finding mom was easy, she's from the same pack, lived her entire life right under his nose.
But for us? For me? Yeah, not as simple. Ours or mine mate isn't from the same pack, only the Goddess knows if we'll ever meet her. Or him.
And also, it's not like the Goddess will just toss our mate into our arms like it's nothing. Finding someone so special isn't easy at all.
Instead of taking his bait and distracting myself with this twist, I roll my eyes and focus on the pressing matter. The Council. The fuckface crew and most importantly, Ash. Our Ash.
Something like recognition flashes in my father's eyes as a wide smile spreads across his lips. “Ah, there we go.”
“There we go, what?” I quickly ask, not sure where he's trying to steer this conversation.
I swear, parents claim to be so experienced and smart, but more often than not, understanding their weird behavior is such a pain.
While he could explain what he meant, father chooses to look like I just hit him, or worse, I'm the most stupid person he has ever faced. Such a compliment, isn't it?
I roll my eyes at him and huff as I cross my arms in front of my chest. “So? Are you going to keep looking at me like I'm stupid or are you planning to answer my question?”
He only smiles and shakes his head, but this time, he doesn't look like I'm not giving him what he asks, quite the opposite - he looks… happy?
“All in good time, son. Anyway, speaking of the Council. I don't think they're getting their week. About three days tops sounds reasonable. They don't need an entire week, that's too much time, hives them too much leverage to take the situation and twist it into something else to make us the villains. Not something I'm okay with.”
“What now? We sit and wait?” I ask.
He offers me a dissatisfied, tight smile and nods. “We wait. Three days.”
