Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 39
Ashley pov
Eventually, the conversation would happen regardless of who stands on the other side.
Sooner or later, no matter how much I want to keep this a secret, I would be forced to come clean with someone. Just because I haven’t shouted my secrets out to the world doesn’t mean I will have a chance to keep them forever.
And while I understand that much, I also can’t find my voice, so I decide to stick to a simple nod.
In response, Nathan groans and jumps to his feet to start pacing the room again. “I had a feeling that might be the case. You probably didn’t pay much attention to me since I keep my distance, but I’ve been watching you from afar. The reaction you had to his arrival was a massive red flag, but so was his. Kaiden didn’t just scan the crowd, his eyes were looking for someone. You.”
My heart nearly stops in my chest. “Me?” I ask, as if I’m suddenly losing brain cells and the only thing I can do is repeat someone’s words. How stupid is that?
“Yes,” he says and stops to face me. “I’m not sure why, but I will assume you’re not willing to share details about what has happened so far. Or are you?”
I don’t get a chance to answer the question and share my reasons when he’s suddenly at my side, his hand covering my lips to keep me from talking. “Shoot, I forgot we’re not alone here, Alpha. I get that you trust that boy, I can see how close you two are, but it’s best if we don’t discuss anything in front of him.”
I frown and give him a questioning look, but Nathan just shakes his head. “Later, I will explain later after I get him out of here, okay?”
I’m still hesitant to agree, I can’t just trust someone I don’t even remember just because he has the right words to say. Raising an eyebrow, I want for more so he leans in and whispers, “I would rather die than betray my Alpha. I stood at your parents’ side till the very last moment and I’ve spent years trying to get you back. If anyone, I’m a person you could give a bit of trust to.”
“Stop being a stuck up bitch and listen to what the Professor has to say. Who knows, he might be holding onto something that could save our lives. Also, it’s not like he can pull off anything, especially inside the hospital that is monitored like this one. We’re in a facility filled with masses of high profile Alphas, doing something illegal is too risky,” Sam suddenly adds.
Has my wolf forgotten that I’m literally mad at her right now? She hasn’t been the support system everyone told me a wolf could be to their human self. Sam is the bane of my existence these days.
Before I can collect my thoughts and make a decision, Nathan pulls his hand away from me and turns his body to face Anno. “Ash is awake, but the doctors said he needs more rest. I think it will be best if you go home and get some rest while Ash recovers. And before you protest - I promised the headmaster I will stay at Ash’s side, he’s my student so I’m responsible for his well being and safety.”
Anno completely ignores the Professor, tosses away the book and gets to his feet. He quickly stretches and approaches me to place his hand on my forehead and smile down at me. “You good?” He asks.
I force a smile and nod. I’m not good, not even close with everything that is happening to me these days, but I don’t want to worry him even more than I already have. If anyone, Anno deserves some time away from my drama filled existence.
Anno’s eyes dart to the Professor and I can feel the distrust radiate off him. He doesn’t look at the older man for long before his eyes return to me again. “Are you sure? I can ask him to leave and stay here until you feel good enough to leave the place.”
A part of me wants to agree, but the other part, the stronger one, is curious about what Nathan might tell me. What secrets is he planning to share with me now?
With the same forced smile, I tilt my head to lean into Anno’s touch and look up at him. “I’m fine,” I mutter. “Just like the Professor said, he will stay with me until I get better. You’re clearly tired if you managed to fall asleep in that uncomfortable recliner. Trust me, I’ll be okay.”
Although hesitant, eventually, my best friend agrees to leave me with the Professor, but not before nearly threatening the older man and promising to return after he has a nap and a shower.
We both watch Anno leave and once the door to the room closes, Natrhan chuckles. “That was unexpected, if you ask me. I didn’t expect him to be this worried and suspicious of me.”
“He’s my best friend, of course he will act suspicious when it comes to me. Besides, the reaction should reassure you that Anno means no harm when it comes to me, right?” I try to smile, but again, find myself forcing the action, not feeling it.
“Shocker,” Nathan grunts and sits down again. “I will remain suspicious until he proves himself, Alpha. People like him, those who come from places like he does, I can't trust them. No matter how close you two have become, I refuse to trust him before he proves himself worthy of my trust.”
I wave him off and roll my eyes. “It’s me who has to trust him, not you. Anno has proven himself plenty of times, he is my friend, end of story.”
“Maybe that’s what you think because in reality, while the boy knows quite a lot about you, you don’t know anything about him. I’m not trying to attack your character and ability to read people, Alpha, but there’s something you don’t know about your friend.”
I arch an eyebrow and hold my breath, anxiously awaiting the new revelation that might as well break the friendship I have built with Anno.
Nathan’s eyes don’t leave mine, an action I take as him trying to prove he isn’t lying to me. “Anno, that boy is coming from an alliance pack. No, not an alliance with your late parents, it’s one between his and Kaiden’s territories. Anno’s pack is as responsible for the death of your parents as Kaiden’s.”
