Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 126
Elias pov
Mom gives me a death glare. The type of glare that screams without words that I have overstepped the invisible line and how dare I question her baby boy.
She'll get over it, eventually the emotions will pass, and she will start seeing reason. Until then however, I'm probably grounded till the end of my days. Or something worse like I'm in charge of doing the dishes, probably even in heaven or hell, and I have to deal with everyone's dirty socks.
“Elias, my dearest son, I suggest you choose your next words very carefully. I will tolerate no disrespect under my roof, even if it's between my children. You will hear your brother out and you will never downplay his emotional needs. Just because you and Everett happen to be a brick wall on fire when it comes to your emotions just like your father doesn't mean you have to disrespect someone who actually feels these emotions.” Mom says in a warning tone.
I gulp and nod. “Sorry ma'am,” I whisper.
“That's better,” she grins and looks at my father. “Do you have anything to add, dear? A punishment, perhaps?”
I feel like my world's starting to spin and I can't stop it. There's no way my parents would actually punish me for speaking my mind. In this case I just asked a question.
And besides, it's not like they can really blame me, everyone in our family knows that Ethan loves to overreact and blow an elephant out of a fly.
“I believe it's only fair if we ignore this little slip up, dear,” dad quickly suggests. I knew I had him in my corner and for once he's actually doing what dads are supposed to do - arguing with moms. “It's clear that all of our boys are going through something very big and while Elias isn't too keen on showing his emotions, I can see he's going through something as well. Let's get to the bottom of this first and then we can make a decision that benefits all of our boys.”
“Wise choice,” mom agrees. She nudges Ethan’s side and encourages him to speak up. “Come on baby, tell your dad what's been worrying you so your brothers can tell their side of the story too.”
With teary eyes, Ethan looks up at mom and bites his bottom lip. I know that move all too well, it's one of his tactics to come across as small and vulnerable. Mom always buys it.
“They took away the woman I love.”
Those few words leave all of us completely speechless. Even I have no idea what to say. From what he claimed earlier, this wasn't part of the plan. I expected him to come here, fall into mom's arms and cry his eyes out about the injustice.
Instead, he's sitting in front of all of us and claiming he's in love with her. Is he really? Can a woman fall in love with someone who isn't their faded mate?
“Who did they take?” Mom asks, letting her eyes scan our faces. I'm not sure what she sees, but she notices something about Everett and I, which makes her face harden. “Your brothers love her too,” she adds, making the words sound like they have no weight at all.
But hell, they do. I never claimed I was in love with her. I'm not. I can't be. I'm waiting for my mate and Ash isn't that. Sure, I really like the girl, pretty sure I liked her even when I thought she was a dude, but that's nothing near to an emotion I would ever call love.
“They won't admit it,” Ethan scoffs. “Those two are too stubborn, too pig-headed to admit that they have actual feelings like any other human being does. If you ask me, yes, they are. If you ask them, never in a million years. But that's not the point, is it? I came home because I need your help. Because I can't get her back on my own.”
“Do you, perhaps, want to share a little more detail about this girl?” That suddenly interjects.
My head snaps in his direction. I can't believe the old guy is actually buying Ethan’s story. He shouldn't play along with this. What he should do is put my brother in his place and remind him that there's no way he could be in love with someone who isn't faded to him by the goddess.
But no, instead of doing the right thing, dad decides to change tactics, turn into our mother and play along with the delusions. I can't believe this in my family. I can't believe they actually think they're normal.
I slap a hand on my face and run it down. “You can't be serious,” is all I can really say. I suppose I'm still somewhat okay since I'm still speaking unlike poor Everett who was just looking around completely dumbfounded.
Mom’s eyes zero in on me. She looks like a woman on a mission. Like a woman who's about to rip my head off, poke it on the stick and run around showing off to everyone what she could do if someone decides to go against her.
“Elias, let me give you a piece of advice,” she starts, pushing her words through gritted teeth, looking all sorts of ready to kill. “You must be thinking that love is only for the people who have been brought together by the goddess, right? Well, my dear son, you couldn't be more wrong. You assume that your father and I are fated mates, which we aren't.”
Even before she starts talking more and tossing more information in this revelation, I already can't process the words that left her lips. She's probably lying to appease Ethan.
There's no way my parents aren't mates. It's clear they are made for each other, meant to be together, molding together so perfectly no one else could ever replace them.
“Now, although you look as terrified as you are shocked, I'm sure you understand it is fully possible to love someone even if they aren't your mate. Your father and I, maybe the moon goddess never meant to bring us together, but both of us found each other after the mates sent by the goddess rejected us. I've never been more happier in my life than I've been after meeting your father. I know it's hard to believe, but sometimes, the goddess doesn't know best.”
