Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 240
Constantine pov
I stand frozen, unable to make a sound as I watch the witch kneel over Gio, her hands hover above his broken body. Her words still echo in my mind, over and over again. “This is my magic. The magic I sold to someone else.”
What the hell is that even supposed to mean?
My chest tightens as I look at Dominic, who is staring at the witch with a mix of deep-seated anger and exhaustion burning in his eyes.
“What in the actual fuck is going on here?” I demand, finding my voice sounds far sharper than I intend it to come out. “Why didn’t you tell me your mother is a witch? Why would you claim she’s just a human?”
When Dominic turns to me, I’m taken aback. His face is pale, but the fire in his eyes blazes more powerful as he sways on his feet. “Because it doesn’t matter,” he snarls.
“Doesn’t matter?” I huff with a hint of bewilderment and take a step closer to the man I allowed myself to think I know. “She’s a witch, Dominic! You’ve been lying to me this whole time about your so-called human roots. And now, this magic situation? Do you take me for a fucking fool?”
“She’s not a born witch!” Dominic snaps back, his voice hoarse but filled with frustration. “She’s a human. A human with powers. A gifted dark witch, not some magical being from birth. She’s human with extra sprinkles of magic on top. Happy now?”
The venom in his voice catches me off guard, but I don’t back down. “You should’ve told me,” I mutter, shaking my head.
“Right,” Dominic sneers. “Because my family history is what’s important right now. Not the fact that your precious friend is bleeding out in front of us!”
I open my mouth to argue, but his mother’s voice interrupts us. “Dominic,” she says softly, her eyes darting between him and Gio. “I can try to help him, but I don’t know if it will work. His wounds are severe. His life is hanging by a thread.”
Dominic’s face crumples, his anger melting into something raw and vulnerable. “You have to try,” he says, his voice cracking. “Please. He’s important to my mate, and that makes him important to me.”
I stare at Dominic, stunned into silence. The way he says it - there’s no hesitation, no sarcasm. He means it.
The witch looks at me, her eyes warm, and suddenly, I hear her voice in my head, clear and soft. “Thank you for showing my son he can love again. I feared I lost him for good. Take good care of my boy, he’s worth it, I promise. Don’t make the same mistakes I made.”
The words hit me like a blow under the belt. I don’t know how to respond, so I don’t.
She turns back to Dominic and smiles at him the way only a mother smiles at her child. “I’ll try my best,” she says aloud. “But I can’t promise anything.”
Dominic nods quickly, stepping back to give her space. I follow, my eyes glued to her as she kneels over Gio and begins to chant.
The air grows heavy, almost suffocating, as a dark glow spreads from her palms. The light is mesmerizing, swirling and pulsing with an otherworldly energy. I can’t tear my eyes away as Gio’s blood, still pooling beneath him, begins to move.
It seeps back into his body, inch by inch, like water flowing upstream. His breathing grows louder, more even, and the jagged wounds across his chest and arms start to close. The sight is miraculous.
I barely notice my own breath catching as the process continues. The witch’s chanting slows, her voice becomes softer, and the glow fades. When it’s done, Gio looks almost whole again. But he’s still not waking up.
“He’s not moving,” I say as panic rises in my chest. “Why isn’t he waking up?”
The witch leans back, her face pale, the look on her face couldn’t be mistaken for anything but exhaustion. “I’ve done all I can. His body is healed, but his spirit - that’s up to him. Whether he survives or not depends on how much he wants to live.”
Her words still echo around us, but before any of them can speak up again, I turn to Dominic and point my finger at him. “You’re next. Let her help you too-”
Dominic’s face twists with disgust, and he snarls before I can even finish. “I think the fuck not.”.
“What?” I blink, stunned by his reaction.
“I’d rather survive on nothing but pond water until the end of my life,” he growls, his eyes blazing with raw, deep-seated anger. “A pint of fucking parasites over her.”
The witch’s face falls, the hurt flashes across her face before she looks down, her hands still trembling. “I understand,” she whispers, her voice so soft I almost don’t hear it. And just like that, she fades into the shadows, her presence vanishing as if she was never there.
“Dominic, what the hell is wrong with you?” I scream, turning to him. “She could’ve helped you! You’re barely standing, and you’re pushing away the only person who can-”
“Just shut up!” Dominic cuts me off. “Take your friend and go. Get him to the hideout. Now.”
I don’t move. “I’m not leaving you here like this.”
“You don’t get to decide that! Take him, Constantine. Take him before I change my mind and make you regret it.”
Before Dominic can try to sneak away on me, I quickly approach him and gently wrap my arms around him. The moment I do, as always, he rests his head on my shoulder and lets out a shuddering breath. “Please, don’t stay here. Come with me, let me care for you. Once you’re better, I won’t try to stop you anymore.”
This time Dominic nods in agreement. Before I release him, I press my lips to his forehead, reassuring him that he has made the right decision. Then, I slowly step away and approach Gio. I kneel to pick him up, still trying my best to remain as gentle as I can be, just in case.
His body feels lighter than I expect, but the blood still clinging to him reminds me how close we came to losing him.
Dominic doesn’t say another word as I turn and start walking away, but I know he’s right on my heels, so for the time being, I don’t panic.
Somehow, I lose myself in my thoughts, so it’s not until I cross the border and step out of the king’s territory that I realize Dominic isn’t following me after all.
I stop and turn to look back, but the forest is empty, not a soul in sight. “Darn it, Dominic,” I mutter under my breath and tighten my grip on Gio.
Okay, new plan: find clothes, get dressed, get Gio to the camp, find Dominic and drag him back. He’s still out there, broken and bleeding, but too damn stubborn to accept help. I feel completely powerless when it comes to him and fuck, isn’t that the worst feeling.
