Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 238
Constantine pov
The forest is darker than usual through my beast’s eyes. We see shapes flickering by but the forest seems to become thicker and there’s this weird thug at my insides that lets me know we have entered the king’s territory again.
In this form, my senses are sharper, every sound is louder, including the crunch of the leaves under my paws and the distant rustle of the branches. The call leads me deeper into the woods and my gut keeps twisting with fear for my brother’s safety. Unless they’re in grave danger, they would never use the call.
Finally, I spot them. From afar, they look like a pile of shapes in the shadows, moving slowly.
My bear nudges me to shift back to my human form, so I do, and instantly break into a run towards them, calling out, “Ronan!” I can smell the blood from here - his blood.
They all turn at the sound of my voice and I physically feel the breath leave my lungs. The stench of blood only intensifies. They’re hurt, all of them.
Ronan is half-slumped over the back of a large wolf, his massive frame looking small and broken. Declan and Bryce are supporting each other, their faces pale, their clothes stained with blood.
I reach them, my eyes scan their injuries as I try to remember how many medical supplies we have at hand and how many more I’ll need to get. “What the hell happened?”
Bryce shakes his head, his voice tight with pain. “It’s... it’s bad, Constantine. Kaiden-”
“Kaiden?” The fuckers name leaves my mouth like venom I’d rather spit out and leave forgotten. “What about Kaiden?”
Ronan stirs, his eyes open, barely, but they do. His voice is weak, sounding more like a whisper. “Magic,” he manages to choke out. “Kaiden has magic. Cursed, forbidden.”
The words hit me like a brick wall. I knew Kaiden was dangerous and went too far to get everything he wanted, but magic? That changes everything.
The wolf that is carrying Ronan lowers him gently to the ground, so I turn to look at the beast who helped to get my brothers out of trouble. He reeks of the king’s pack, absolutely disgusting, but once I look into his eyes, I’m caught off guard. There’s something raw and honest in that gaze, completely honest.
“Whos this?” I ask, tilting my head towards the tired-looking wolf.
“Klye,” Bryce says with a slight smile on his lips. “He helped us escape the cells. He and Gio.”
“Gio?” I gasp out his name and instantly scan our surroundings, trying to notice the man somewhere nearby, but see nothing. I frown and look at Ronan. “Where is he?”
His hand reaches for me, weak but determined to grab me, almost like he’s trying to stop me from something I haven’t even started to do. “He stayed behind, boss,” Ronan whispers and coughs up some blood. “He stayed to fight Kaiden and win us time to get away from him.”
My blood turns to ice in my veins. I can’t believe that old, reckless fucker. Fighting Kaiden is one thing, but to do that when the perry bastard has gotten his hands on cursed magic and to do that alone is a complete madness.
“And you left him? Just like that? Couldn’t call for backup earlier?” I growl out the words, my voice dripping with anger and venom. We never leave behind those who help us. Never. No matter what.
The wolf suddenly shifts into a young man, who steps closer to me. “With all due respect, he told us to. Right, guys?” He glances at my brothers and they all nod. “We didn’t want to, but we didn’t have a choice. He saved our lives when he told us to run. I might be a low-rank wolf myself, but I know a thing or two when it comes to listening to commands coming from high-rank wolves. In my heart, Gio is my leader and if he tells me to leave him to die, I will just because he ordered me to.”
I stare at the guy in shock. Somehow, my mind is still stuck on the part where Gio is sacrificing himself for my brothers and for his friend.
“I can’t let him fight alone,” I growl. Turning to Ronan, I place a hand on his shoulder and whisper, “you go to Greg, yes? All of you. He’ll take care of you. Follow the scent, brother, we’re all staying at Dominic’s hideout for now. He has Ash and a new rogue ally there. You all will be safe there.” Then, I turn to Kyle and muster a smile. “You too. You are one of us now.”
Kyle’s reaction is a little comical as his eyes widen and head bobs like a toy. In the meantime, Ronan only nods at me, still weak, with his eyelids looking heavy from pain and exhaustion. “Be careful, brother. Kaiden is not the same. He’s-”
Before he can finish the thought, I cut Ronan off. “I’ll deal with him. Get to Greg.”
I don’t wait for a response from any of them. I shift back into my bear and take off into the woods, following the scent of blood.
And it doesn’t take long to find him.
The clearing is eerily silent, the air thick and stupidly heavy with the metallic stench of freshly spilled blood. Gio lies in the center of the clearing, his body broken, a pool of blood surrounding him.
My heart stops at the sight as I shift back into my human form and run to his side. “Gio!” I scream his name, my hands shake, I’m too scared to touch him just yet.
Dropping to my knees, I silently beg their Goddess to spare him. The man doesn’t deserve to die. Time stops as I try to figure out where to start, how to help him, and then, I realize I hear something. The sound is faint, barely there, but Gio is still breathing, his chest rising and falling in shallow gasps.
“You old fool, you’re still fighting. Yes, keep doing that,” I hiss out the words, holding back the tears that fill my eyes.
“Kaiden,” he mouths. “Gone.”
I look around and there’s no sign of Kaiden. In fact, other than the pool of blood and Gio’s battered body, there’s no sign of the fight that supposedly happened here.
“Stay with me,” I hiss and press my hands against one of his wounds to slow the bleeding. “You’re going to be okay.”
Gio lets out a weak bitter laugh that makes him cough up blood. “Don’t lie to me.”
“Shut up!” I snap in a shaky voice. “You’re not dying here, I won’t let you!”
He doesn’t respond, his eyes fall closed and the look on his face is one of peace. Panic rises within me, but I ignore it. I can’t lose Gio, can’t let him die.
I let out a roar, the sound echoes through the woods. If Kaiden is still close, he’ll hear me, but I don’t care. All that matters is that I need to get Gio out of here alive.
