The king chokes on his own spit, eyes wide, face pale as if he just saw a fucking ghost, not faced his so-called best friend.

Funny how people change over the years, how easy that shit comes to them, right?

For as long as I could remember, I've stood by his side, given him as much advice as he asked and still supported him. However, the one time I needed him, the bastard dropped me like yesterday's trash.

Fucking amazing, isn't it?

“W-what do you mean? Gio, you can't be serious,” he manages to choke out, slapping a hand over his chest and taking a step back.

A smile tugs at the side of my mouth, but I manage to push it down. There's no way in hell I'll ever show him just how much I'm enjoying how pathetic he looks right now.

“You heard me. I have one rule and one rule only. If you want me to go after your precious little rebel, I'm bringing him back in a wooden box. Personal delivery, if you will,” I repeat, adding more sarcastic details for shits and giggles.

“No,” he whispers and shakes his head. “No, you wouldn't. This isn't you, Gio. This isn't how my best friend is. Don't let the anger cloud your judgment, don't let your hatred push you to do something you will regret later on.”

I can't help but laugh at the certainty that laces his words. How he believes I would stand on his side ever again is beyond me.

The betrayed don't tend to remain friends with those who betray them and their sole beliefs.

“Oh, but I would,” I stress, making sure my words sound amused as I lean forward to show him just how serious I am. “And I would fucking enjoy every single moment of it. First, I would find him. Then, I would take my sweet time savoring the taste of his blood, screams and pleas. And once I'd be done, I would toss everything that's left of the fucker inside that box and hand deliver it to you. That's just how happy I am to help you and your lying little son. Now, do you still want my help or do you prefer to sit back and wait until he comes back himself with more shit on his hands, hmm?”

Although I thought his eyes can't become larger and bulge out even more, the king is here to prove me wrong.

From where I stand, the guy looks like an alien, someone who doesn't belong here at all.

“Comes back with more shit on his hands? What do you mean? Gio, I don't believe you have so little faith in my son to always think the worst of him. Kaiden is a good kid, a little spoiled, yes, but good in his core.” He argues.

Ah, how I wish he would have followed us on some of those trips during which I had to babysit the poor little Prince.

If only the king would've seen the atrocious things his son has done, the crimes he has committed, and the life's he has taken just because he could.

Fucking bastards. Both of them. The youngest one for thinking he can get away with any shit he is doing and the older one for ignoring everything his spawn does.

“That's where you're wrong. He isn't good. Spoiled, yes. Bratty, yes. Psychotic? Hmm, that too, that's a definite yes. But good? No. Never. And just as real it is that I stand here, before you, just as real are my statements. Mark my words, he will come back himself and he will bring a brand new shitstorm as he returns too.”

As expected, the king shakes his head. I suppose living in delusions is far easier than it is to face the truth and accept the facts.

Especially for him, it has to be insanely hard. After all, everything Kaiden does, how that brat turned out, it's all nothing but the consequence of the king's parenting. Kaiden has been made into the monster he is by the daddy dearest.

“That's where you are wrong. Kaiden will prove it. If my son comes home, I have full trust in him, I know, feel it in my heart, someone took him. Or forced him to leave. Kaiden wouldn't leave just to ruffle my feathers. He wouldn't put the kingdom in jeopardy just because he can.”

All I do is chuckle and shake my head. If the fool is so adamant to believe his delusions, who am I to try and convince him otherwise?

The fact of the matter is that I've already done my damnedest to convince him. I've done whatever I could to make sure he sees things clearly. Just because he refuses to do so, well, that's his problem, not mine.

“Listen,” I mutter and force out a heavy breath. “I did my part. I tried to warn you. Once your son returns and proves you wrong, all I can say is that it'd be pretty foolish to run to me and beg me to fix his mess. And trust me, the mess will be impressive. Just keep in mind that I won't fix shit for him anymore. I've taken plenty of his sins on me, it's time I stop covering for the little shit.”

Instead of looking defensive, the king's face pulls into an ugly frown and he crosses his arms in front of his chest, as if to appear bigger and more intimidating.

Ha, as if that would ever work. News flash - it wouldn't. Of all the people, this man should know that there is little to nothing that could scare me.

Honestly, my biggest fear is to lose my mate. But, since neither of these assholes know who he is, I don't have to worry about his safety. Good thing I've never mentioned a name and my mate isn't a fool, I'm sure he would leave and find safety if it came down to the king or his son seeking him out.

And besides, given how sketchy my mate is about those two, I'm sure he would do anything in his power to avoid anyone connected to this pack. Except for me.. Hopefully.

“Whatever, smartass,” the king snarls. “Let's see who will have the last laugh then,” he adds, spins on his heel and storms away.

Well, now, all I have left is time. I suppose now, I lay down and wait until shit hits the roof.
