Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 119
Ashley pov
Gulping, I nod in agreement. So far, I’ve always thought that I’ve learned to lie pretty well, but it looks like the only person who has bought my lies is myself. Well, that sucks.
What also sucks is that there are more secrets involved, not only ones about me, but also about Constantine and his so-called brothers. However, while the tip of my tongue is literally itching for me to ask what are the things I don’t know, the look on his face screams that I won’t get the answers anytime soon.
If I know what’s best for me, I’ll keep those thoughts at the back of my mind until the right time comes. Now, they’ll only annoy Constantine and make the situation worse than it already is.
“Okay, I won’t lie.” I mutter just to ensure he understands my intentions.
A wide smile blinds me as Constantine bends down to place a gentle kiss on my hands, still beaming like he just won the grand prize of a lottery or something.
“How about we push this discussion aside and focus on it later? I think both of us need a breather and in the meantime, we can eat something. My friends are in the kitchen, I’m sure food is ready by now.”
My first reaction is to agree, but I quickly remind myself that I promised not to lie, so I shake my head. “A breather sounds good, but I won’t be able to hold any food down until we come to a conclusion of sorts. I’ll grow too anxious and won’t be able to sleep until I have my answers.”
“Well,” Constantine drags. “Technically, I might have an idea how we could deal with your mess. The only issue is that you won’t like it. Keep in mind you promised not to lie, which means you must instantly tell me if the thought of going through with my plan makes you freak out.”
“Okay,” I agree without thinking.
His dark eyes find mine and for a little while, they search for something and widen when he doesn’t find what he’s looking for. “Also, there are risks involved, so after I lay out the plan, you need to listen to those too, okay?”
“Yes,” I whisper and nod, freeing my hand from his grip only to place it over his. “I’ll listen and think about the options. I promise not to make hasty decisions or lie to your face ever again. Now, please, tell me what are your plans.”
“I was thinking that since the prince will try to follow your scent and steal you back, we could create a situation of ambush and corner him,” Constantine starts, his eyes never leaving me as if reading any emotion that might cross my features.
“And? What’s next? Are you planning to kill him or something?” I arch an eyebrow.
Constantine looks just as surprised as I feel as the words echo against the walls. The nonchalant tone I use and the ease with which the words roll off my tongue are surprising even to myself.
This has to be the proof that I really don’t care about Kaiden at all. I don’t care what happens to him next or where life brings him. Even if life brings him anywhere at all. At this point, I really couldn’t care less even if the guy died today or tomorrow.
“No,” Constantine gasps. “Although I’m not opposed to the idea, it wasn’t a part of my plan. After you told me that you two are connected with a bond that isn’t fully broken because you never accepted the rejection, I thought it would be pretty awesome if we could corner him, leave no way of escape and give you a chance to accept his rejection once and for all. However, there will be some bumps in the road if you decide to go through with my plan.”
“Such as? If the bond is broken for good, what does he get out of following me around like some lost puppy? No bond, no issue, right?”
“Wrong,” he chuckles and slowly raises to his full height to back away and start pacing the room again.
Tension radiates off Constantine again, so I frown and warn him. “Scream again and I might as well take your advice and actually slap you.”
He chuckles and winks at me. “As you should. I won’t scream, though, I got the beast under control now, hopefully he knows his place now that he realizes how his temper tantrum has backfired on him.”
We both share a moment of laugh, but I don’t add anymore of my thoughts and worries, patiently waiting until Constantine will lay his cards out for me and explain what it is that he clearly fears.
“The next problem we might face is how long it’ll take for the prince to finally take the hint and give up. I told you before that someone with your bloodline is so rare, everyone would want to get a piece of you if they knew you existed. He still might try to chase you.”
“But if I reject, what point would it be to keep on chasing me? I don’t get it. There’s no way to renew the mate bond unless he locks me away, gagged and takes back his rejection, which he still hasn’t done.”
Constantine frowns and shakes his head. “For people like Kaiden, the bond doesn’t mean shit. He doesn’t understand how blessed he is to have a mate since all his life, he got everything, including women handed to him on a silver platter. He wants you because you are an important pawn in his game. Let’s hope your second chance mate isn’t like that.” He flashes me a smile, a very sad one, and quickly tries to hide the grief that nearly comes from him in waves.
Before I can focus on his unusual behavior and attitude, I realize I start freaking out because of his words. If Constantine’s plan works and I get a chance to accept Kaiden’s rejection, the triplets will instantly find out that I’ve lied to them all this time.
