Although it feels like every part of my body has turned into a massive, unmovable ice brick, I manage to shake my head so hard, I nearly lose balance.

I feel him taking a step closer, my senses scream I must escape, but since there are so many eyes on us, I don’t dare to move a muscle. In fact, I don’t dare to breathe, let alone think.

“Are you sure, Miss? You may ask anything you wish for and I’ll personally make sure you get it within a blink of an eye. Being the prince has its perks, you know. Perks I’m willing to share if I’m treated nicely.” Kaiden chuckles and brings his finger to my exposed shoulder to run it down my arm.

How is one supposed to vomit in their mouth without giving away that it happens, hmm?

Releasing a shaky breath, I shake my head again, this time a little slower. “Thank you for the concern you show a mere peasant such as myself, your highness, but I’m really okay and need no assistance,” I whisper as my eyes travel down to my feet.

Please don’t recognize my voice, I beg you, please don’t.

The logical part of my brain knows that there’s little to no chance of that happening. Kaiden didn’t bother to get to know me or learn certain things, so he shouldn’t be able to know my voice. But the other part of my brain, one that is overtaken by fear, keeps screaming I’m exposing myself.

“Are you sure?” He asks and flattens his palm over my upper arm. I can feel the heat of his body on my back and I want nothing more than to rip off my skin, give it a bleach bath, and never wear it again. “Anything you might desire, I’ll make it happen. Think carefully before you reject my offer, I won’t approach you with a chance like this ever again. Once in a lifetime offer, Miss.”

How fucking full of himself is this prick?

“Again, I really appreciate the offer, but I have everything my heart might desire over here,” I emphasize the word everything as I motion at the table of snacks.

Kaiden chuckles and pulls his hand away from me. Finally, I can breathe. The simple action felt impossible, like my lungs were on fire, while his hand was on me.

“I do find women with healthy appetites rather intriguing. Tell me, what is your name?” Kaiden asks, not bothering to step back and give me the distance I so desperately need. Hasn’t he heard of the term private space at all?

Before I can react to his words and come up with a fake name, Kaiden grabs my hips and spins me around, forcing a surprised yelp to leave my lips. Without any hesitation, he leans close to my neck and inhales my non-existent scent.

I know he won’t catch on the scent since there’s none, but the fact that he has his hands on me terrifies me to no end. What if the bond still isn’t fully broken and he feels the tingles? What will I do then?

“I don’t like to have someone turning their back on me, Miss. It’s such a rude thing to do, don’t you think? Even more so if your prince has gone out of his way to approach you. Let’s try this again, shall we? Tell me, beautiful thing, what is your name?”

As he speaks, I feel both disgusted and relieved. Disgusted because, well, duh, it’s him. Relieved because clearly, he hasn’t managed to figure out who I am.

Feigning ignorance, I wave him off and giggle like a hyena. “My apologies, your highness. My name is Samanta, it’s such a pleasure to meet you in person. I didn’t mean to come across as rude, I’m just overwhelmed by the presence of greatness, that’s all.”

Greatness my ass. Wish I could say that to his face without being tossed over his shoulder and forcefully taken away from here just to become his personal baby machine.

And while I truly don’t mean a word that leaves my lips, Kaiden buys them all. Satisfied with my answer, he finally releases me and steps back with the widest grin I’ve seen on this man’s lips. “Please, stick around Miss Samantha, I need to step away to make an important announcement, but I promise to find you in the crowd once I’m done with the work part. Wait for me.”

Kaiden doesn’t give what he demands from others, he demonstrates that all over again when he walks away and leaves me alone. I’m grateful for getting him out of my head, but the experience really shakes me up.

The next moment, the sound of the voices dies down when Kaiden steps on top of one of the tables and clears his throat to gain the guests attention. “Good day, everyone. First, let me thank you beautiful people for attending my little gathering. It's always a pleasant experience to meet new people and mingle around. Now, I would like to remind everyone that the food will be served shortly so please take your seats at the grand table. After the meal, I invite everyone in the attendance to stay for the second part of the party - music, dance and some healthy amount of drinks on me.”

The crowd erupts in cheers as Kaiden climbs off the table, which is a moment I use to quickly hurry to take a seat as far away from him as possible and blend it.

Everyone chats around the table, most people do their damndest to sit closer to the prince, but during the feast, I keep feeling his eyes on me which makes me so uneasy, I give up and decide to leave once people start getting up from the table.

“I suggest everyone starts finding their dance partner before the plates are removed by the staff. I’m eager to enjoy a moment to let loose and hope you guys want to do the same,” Kaiden calls over the chatter.

I take his announcement as a sign it’s the right time for me to leave before he notices. He’s looking at me like I’m a piece of meat and the guy has been starving for some for centuries, so I’m not willing to take the risk at all.

From the corner of my eye, I see Kaiden getting up from his seat, eyes trained on me, but before the asshole can take a step in my direction, I’m stopped by an outstretched hand followed with an awkward chuckle. I look up to see Everett, grinning at me with his cheeks slightly tinted pink. “May I have this dance, Miss?”
