Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 124
Kaiden pov
“Uh, you know me so well,” I drag the words, intentionally making myself sound almost sheepish, even a little coy.
The laugh that fills the line is all sorts of the familiar Leo laugh that I know - that deep, throaty rumble, the type of laughter that is hard to fake.
“Spit it out, Kaden, don't make me wait for any longer. You know I'm always up for some good fun and you my friend, you happen to come up with the best ideas of fun I've ever had. For as long as there's some blood and action involved, you know I’m your man.” Leo announces, sounding like he too is getting comfortable in his seat the same as I am.
Looking around the office, I bite my lip and give myself about a second to think over this idea. I sound completely mad in my head. Deranged even. The things I want to pull off are insane, but even as I keep thinking about what other options I have, I can't think of anything better.
Crazy approach it is.
Closing my eyes, I suck in a breath and release it. “Leo, I need you to do something for me. It will be dangerous, it will be fun, there's a lot of action and blood involved, but on top of that, as always, I offer more than fair pay. However, this time you will need some help. I'm not talking about your friends; I need you to pull some serious strings and get me someone special.”
Leo remains silent for a bit, probably thinking about my words, as always trying to find a deeper meaning behind them. Usually, he's a man of a few words, he doesn't like staying on the phone for too long since his paranoid self believes that there's always someone out there to get him. Which, by the way, might as well be true given how many crimes he has committed.
“So? Are you in or not? Or maybe you need a little more detail this time? And don't worry, I'm calling from my office, this line can't be traced,” I offer him the reassurance I know he needs.
Most times when I call him, I do that from my personal phone, but then the calls don't last for longer than two minutes. It actually took me some time to realize what he was doing, so, I learned pretty quickly that dealing with Leo is easier if I do that over the office phone.
“Honestly, Kaiden, you're an awesome dude, but I'll need some details this time. You're being all mysterious and weird, so whatever you're about to ask me is either insanely dangerous or highly illegal. The pay doesn't even matter. I need to know what I am getting myself into, how bad is it?”
“Leo, you sneaky motherfucker, you cracked me again. You're right, the thing I'm about to ask isn't just bad, it is in fact, insanely dangerous and highly illegal. If you get caught, there's no denying your doings will be traced back to me and both of us will most likely end up in prison or dead. Before I share any details, I'll give you a moment to think this over. I know I'm acting weird, but believe me when I say this, I really can't share any details unless I know you are fully in this with me.”
There's a silence on his end of the call. For a brief moment, I actually start questioning myself and how much I can trust him.
Truth be told, I learned at a very young age that the only person I can really trust in is myself. And sometimes, I can't even do that. On the rare occasions, when I get drunk, I tend to talk more and somehow always end up spilling some secrets, which is the very proof that there are moments in life that I can't trust myself, so how could I ever put so much trust in someone else.
As those thoughts swirl in my mind, I wonder if hiring an accomplice is a good idea. Well, technically it is, simply because if I do everything the right way, I can get rid of any proof that connects me to Leo. So, if anything in my plan goes the wrong way, I could still get away with my crimes.
Just as that realization crosses my mind, Leo clears his throat. “Color me interested. I mean, as much as I would like to, I can't claim that I'm really in this without knowing those details. However, for as long as I've known you, I've never known you as a man who would set up someone else. Unlike other high ranking people, at least you know how to claim responsibility for something you've done. So, hit me with the facts, I’m in.”
I can't help but grin. The fool has no idea what he's getting himself into. Of course, I really hope he won't get caught, but if he does, it really isn't my loss.
Leo is becoming the perfect pawn in my game. I know what he's capable of, I know the people he knows and I sure as hell know how low that guy will stoop for a good amount of money. And hell, am I about to offer him some easy cash.
“I need you to find the hunters,” is all I say. If he gets it, he gets it, if he doesn't, well, I have a problem on my hands.
The last thing I can afford is to have someone running around and telling everyone that I'm seeking out the hunters. If my father ever hears about it, I know for a fact the old man will kill me without a thought. He will forget that I am his son, his blood, the moment someone spills this to him.
“Those are some serious people you're trying to find. I suppose your target is someone you desperately need or someone who royally pissed you off. Which one is it?”
“Both,” I answer without thinking.
“Who is it? How many targets? Any idea where they might be? Or at least an approx direction? Any clue could benefit me. And of course, rest assured I'll deal with everything else.”
“A woman and a bunch of mountain bears. You see, I believe you've already heard that my dear Luna escaped. I found her. My father pulled off an extravagant ceremony for this woman, so I think you can imagine the disappointment I felt when those mutant brutes invited themselves into my home and took what belongs to me.”
It's hard to hide the anger and disgust from my voice. I really try my best to sound like a reasonable man, as someone who has been wronged and deserves the little bit of revenge I'm seeking. I'm sure Leo understands, he knows me as someone who would never act unprovoked. That fool.
“Okay, got it. The girl has to stay alive? And the bears?” Leo asks, there’s also the sound of him, scribbling down the notes in the background. I really like how he is throughout, and I really appreciate his attention to details.
Since I know there isn't much time I can waste before my father comes looking for me again, I get to the point and lay out all of my cards. “I would prefer it if the girl lived, but if that isn't in the cards, I can live with that. The bears, I need them all dead.”
