Elias pov

After all that back and forth between my parents and the council, my head is spinning.

Looking all sorts of grumpy, dad returns to his seat and waves over his Beta. “I'm quite sure Luna took Everett to her booze hiding spot. Could you please go and check on them so my lovely family members don't get drunk and try to attack the Elders? They might be plotting something. Keep them away until the council has left the territory.”

Honestly, I think dad says the words out loud to put more pressure on the council, not to warn anyone.

Those old geezers are scared of mom more than they fear death itself. Of course, they don't want a drunk Luna raging and attacking them while they're trying to leave unharmed.

As soon as Beta leaves, Ethan and I start laughing at the situation. We both clearly think of that one time mom got a little too much to drink and showed her true colors.

“You two are thinking about that time mom got drunk and attacked the bear in the woods, thinking it's a shifter not the actual animal, aren't you?” Dad grumbles, a smirk playing on his lips.

We both nod, agreeing with dads guess. But it was funny, hell it was so funny. First, mom tried to bait the bear closer by calling it a kitty and offering the poor thing a shot of her drink.

Then, when she realized it's not working, she decided it had to be a shifter, so therefore it was trespassing and she attacked the damn grizzly bear.

“She still won't let me get rid of that ugly carpet. Says it feels nice to have her feet hit the fur first time in the morning,” dad chuckles light mindedly.

He loves mom, loves her so much, he puts up with all of her antics. I kind of get that, in a way, since Everett and I put up with Ethan's antics out of love too.

And one day, if I'm lucky enough, I'll do the same for my own mate.

“Gentlemen, I'm sorry to break into your wonderful memory lane, but can we please return to the topics of this meeting? I would prefer to leave this territory in one piece and judging by your brief retelling, it doesn't seem like a possibility if Luna has more drinks while we waste our time here,” the only respectful Elder suggests and dad instantly agrees.

I watch dad lean into his seat and hum as he scratches his chin, deep in thought. “So, we can't get the king, can't get the prince and definitely can't get their territory. If that's the case, I can't see a reason why this meeting is still happening. We gave you options and you denied each of them. What do we get for staying put and not seeking revenge then?”

“I'm sorry, revenge?” The Elder stutters, his eyes growing a fraction larger than usual.

“Exactly that. Revenge. This matter we're discussing is personal, close to our hearts. We are graceful enough to keep our noses out of your business, to turn a blind eye to the inner doings of your leaders, the crimes they commit on a daily basis. However, they targeted someone who we deem as close as a blood family member. The prince had no right to take her against her will. Even more so since we know he rejected the girl and banished her. Elders, we're talking about my family being targeted and hurt here. What is the solution you can offer to undo the hurt and damage done to my family?”

Every time dad says the word “family” he adds extra emphasis on the word to make it clear to the Elders that he isn't playing around or joking anymore.

His speech is yet another reminder that I don't remind my dad of how much I love him nearly enough. I should repeat that at least ten times a day.

Dad is going to unimaginable lengths for us, for our friend and for justice. He's fighting against the council and the whole alliance to ensure Ash doesn't suffer anymore.

This is the type of Alpha I want to be one day. Understanding, kind, helpful and more importantly - fair. Fighting for those who have no one to fight for them. Breaking everything in his way to ensure nobody gets hurt and those who commit crimes meet their punishment.

Dad is the very embodiment of what an Alpha is supposed to be. But on top of that, he is also a great example of how a man has to be. How one person can be a great leader, caring mate, awesome father and overall a man who deserves to be called an actual man.

Not many have reached the balance dad has. Everyone has flaws, so does he, but he's working on himself every day to become a better person in all aspects of his life.

This is the first time in years that I have finally realized just how admirable my parents are. Both of them. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with.

“I think I might have a proposition. Of course, the other Elders might object to this idea, but I must emphasize that we do want to leave this territory the same we entered it - free and unharmed. May I voice my offer?” The respectful Elder speaks, ignoring the death glares the other Elders are sending his way.

“Of course, Elder, you may speak,” dad grins and leans forward, giving the old man his whole attention.

The Elder clears his throat and licks his lips. “My proposition is simple. You grant us the luxury of one week. Not a day less or a day longer. One week in which we hold meetings with the king and demand a decision from him. We will lay out your demands as follows - his life, his son's life or his territory. If he fails to come to a decision by the end of the week's time, we will take the issue in our hands. Personally I believe we could give you the option you want the most - the person who's truly responsible for your worries, prince Kaiden. When the king is on his deathbed, instead of handing the reins over to the prince, we shall grant you the choice of the next king to show our appreciation of your understanding and cooperation with the alliance.”
