Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 138
Kaiden pov
If I tried, if I really fucking tried and broke my brain in half, I'd probably understand where the old fool is coming from.
That, however, isn't in my plans. Definitely not anytime soon, if ever.
Rolling my eyes at him, I ignore every single word that leaves his lips. There are two reasons why I'm approaching the problem with showing so little emotions. One, blowing up at him will do nothing but give him the satisfaction of getting a response. Two, if I give him any reaction at all, he will assume I'm willing to get indulged into conversation with him, which I'm not.
Also, by ignoring him, I'm hoping to get an explanation behind his odd behavior.
“Kaiden,” he growls my name, making it sound so disgusting, shivers run down my spine. “Are you considering blessing me with an answer, or do I need to drop the idea and go to Gio first? By all means, I have no issue in doing so. I’m just giving you the luxury of first hand as my son. Believe me when I say, if it came down to believing in you or Gio, I’d choose Gio.”
My eyes widen in pure disbelief. I can’t believe he’s actually telling me that he wouldn’t believe in my words if he had to choose between me and his loyal servant. Such a father he is.
“For all I care, go to your lap dog and question him,” I wave father off, pretending his words didn’t faze me in the slightest. But they did, they fucking cut deeper than anything in my like. “Just keep it in mind that I’m not at fault. It’s been a long time coming until Gio would snap. Men like him don’t like being disrespected, especially by someone younger, regardless of the title.”
Father frowns at me. “So, you’re telling me the attack was provoked by nothing but disrespect?”
Great, now there’s more explaining to do as it seems. Sucks to suck, I suppose. Sometimes, I fucking hate how much details higher rank men are demanding to hear. Yeah, sure, I get all that shit about needing all facts to make the right decision, but come on, father is bringing the issue to a brand new level here.
Crossing my arms in front of my chest, I look away to show him how much I hate having him in my view after a betrayal like this. “Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying,” I mutter and let out a heavy sigh. “I suppose Gio isn’t too happy about my newfound ability to become independent, a man you’ve been dying to see.”
“What do you mean?” He instantly asks and I have to hide my grin. Caught this baby on the right bait, all it takes is to pull him to the shore so there’s no return to the waters.
“What I mean is that I made a decision to send a search group after my mate without discussing it with you, or more importantly, with Gio. He got pissed that I did something on my own, no help whatsoever. You’ve been nagging me about needing to grow up and act my age, remember? Now, as soon as I do just that, I get my ass beaten by your lap dog and a fucking lecture from you. How is that fair? Since when do I get punished for doing what you always wanted me to do?”
My words are like the final blow to rest the case. Father rushes to me, throws his arms around me and holds me into an insanely tight hug. “I’m so proud of you son, you have no idea how immensely proud I feel. By taking this step, you’ve made me the proudest father on this planet. And Kaiden, trust me, if your mother was here to see the man you’re becoming, she would be proud too.”
Like always, I hate when he brings up my mother. Every time he does, tears well up in my eyes and I have to fight to regain some semblance of control and balance. Memories are too painful to be remembered, so I rather keep them closed somewhere in the depths of my mind.
Once I manage to regain my composure, I slowly step out of his hug and meet my father’s eyes, “as much as I appreciate the unexpected yet nice words, I also want to know what is your course of action. What happens next?”
The frown on his face returns, this time deeper, as if he doesn’t understand what I’m saying. “What do you mean by what happens next? I don’t get it.”
As much as I want to roll my eyes at the stupidity, again I hold off. The last thing I need now is another conflict. Like it or not, I must remain on my father’s good side so I can get what rightfully belongs to me and kick the old man to the curb.
But before that, there’s still plenty to do so I keep my face as expressionless as possible and explain myself. “What are the consequences of my actions? Am I getting thrown into the cells the same as Gio? Or maybe you want to go down there and talk to him first to hear the same story told in different words? I don’t mind anything you choose, just keep in mind that my mate is out there, taken by some sick brutes and time is of essence right now. I need to get her back to safety, and I need to fix the mistakes I’ve made.”
His eyes widen and a delighted smile crosses his lips as father slaps his hand on my shoulder and squeezes it a little. “Kaiden, son, do you really mean that? Every single word you’re saying, you mean it, right? Tell me this isn’t a trick and you truly care about your mate more than I can imagine.”
Seeing how he’s stupid enough to voice his biggest wishes, I just play around with his emotions to avoid the repercussions. “That’s exactly what I’m saying, father. I care about her, care about her more than anyone, including you, could ever imagine. I need to get her back. And rest assured, I won’t stop until she’s back where she belongs, right in my arms.”
