Mated to alpha triplets at all-boys school Chapter 43

Kaiden pov

I know she’s here. Knew ever since we entered the grand hall. Her scent is faint, but it’s there, no denying. The only issue is that this is supposed to be an all-boys school, so having a woman as one of their students probably should be viewed as a fraud.

After the initial meeting, the headmaster offers me a tour around the Academy. He’s too sickly sweet for my liking, but I don’t shut off his attempts to lick my boot. The closer he wants to get to me, the better the chance he will actually tell me a thing or two about the students here.

“The Academy has been led by my ancestors for generations. Every firstborn of the family bloodline becomes the next headmaster once they finish their studies and are deemed fit for the role by the current headmaster. I took the position from my grandfather as neither of his children were born male. My mother was extremely happy to become the woman who birthed the next man in the line of hundreds of successful leaders.” He goes on about his family bloodline and how important the position is for him.

I don’t get why this guy thinks I might be interested in anything he says. Sure, a little bit of history about the place would be fine, at least for me to pretend I care, but all that backstory is too much.

While the old prick is busy flaunting his success, which by the way is nothing but a silver spoon put in his hand. Don’t get me wrong, in a sense, he’s the same as me. I, too, didn’t have to do anything impressive to be where I am - all I did was born into the right family, but he’s really blowing it out of proportion. The same as I was bred for the throne, he was bred for the headmaster’s chair.

I let the fool talk as my eyes scan the surroundings. While I’m not sure what exactly it is that I seek, there is something.

“And that pretty much concludes our little tour. Now, tell me, are there any specific things that caught your attention? Perhaps something you would like to see more of?”

Is it weird that this guy looks both hopeful and scared at the same time? Clearly, he wants to get closer to the royal family and I’m his ticket to that chance, but the scared look makes me feel like he’s hiding something from me here.

“I wouldn’t mind looking around a little bit more,” I mumble and look down at my wristwatch. “Gio is taking some rounds around here to ensure the safety, so it’s not like I can walk around freely until he gives me the green light. How about we head to your office and talk more about the promising students here?”

“Oh, I assure you, this is one of the safest places on this planet. Not only are we hidden away from society, but also, this program is a secret, only a few select ones know about it, so there’s no chance of outsiders ever finding the place.”

I arch an eyebrow at the fool. Yes, he’s definitely hiding something from me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t get so sketchy the moment I mention sitting down and talking somewhere more private.

“I would rather not play with fate, headmaster. Someone in my position has to be careful at all costs. Now, please show me the way to your office; I’m sure my father would love to know the names we should look out for. We always seek more men to join the rows of our armies.”

His eyes start darting around, never meeting mine, which is another sign I take as an attempt to hide something from me.

Once I take the throne, I will change so many damn things about the current system. First and foremost, I will change the law and make it illegal to hide anything from the king. No peasant will look into my eyes and withhold the fucking information I need.

“Sure, sure, of course,” he mutters and clears his throat before spinning on his heel and turning his back to me. “Please, follow me, this way.”

I smirk at the sudden change. What amuses me the most is the fact that he has forgotten something important - you never turn your back to those you have a reason to fear. And a reason does this guy have.

The only reason why he’s still alive is that he has something I need. Once I get my hands on the list of the names, I can rip out his throat and be done with this bullshit.

The headmaster stalls, trying to avert my attention to a few things on our way to his office, but eventually, we reach the door, he opens it and stands aside, waiting for me to enter.

God, not only is this man’s face an eyesore, but so is everything that screams him. Even the office is fucking filthy. Should I invent a law that says someone is obligated to be clean too?

Sitting down, I contemplate about how many baths I will have to take to scrub the filth of his presence off my skin while the idiot grins like he’s truly stupid and takes a seat across from me. “Neat, isn’t it? I take great pride in my personal space, especially in a professional setting.”

While it’s hard, I manage to hold back from rolling my eyes and instead, force a smile. “It’s a nice place you have here, really. However, I didn’t come here to compliment your office, headmaster. I came here to talk about the names of those students who exceed the most.”

“Oh, right, my apologies,” he mutters and rolls up his sleeves before opening the laptop focusing on whatever is on the screen. After a bit, his printer comes to life and spits out a page that he hands over to me. “This is the list of the top students both in this program and back in the Academy.”

I can see beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead as I scan the list and frown. I don’t see anything even closely familiar to her name. “How about the list of students who joined this year? From what we have heard, getting in has gotten increasingly harder every year; my father and I would like to keep our eyes on all students, not only the top ten. We need the brilliant minds as well, not only the muscles.”

The headmaster pulls his hands into fists and gulps. “A-all of t-them?” He stutters and I can’t help but smile at his misery. Here it is, the very proof I’ve been seeking. She’s here.
