Ashley pov

I hold my breath and listen to the voices in the living room. They sound familiar at first, but it takes me a while to understand why.. The three menaces are, once again, my damn roommates.

Yeah, scratch all those thoughts about having luck on my side. It’s not. Luck is against me.

As if my life isn’t messed up enough already, one of them scares the soul out of me by trying to open the bathroom door. “This shit is locked,” he hisses and after a split second, I realize it’s Elias.

“Yeah,” I call out and clear my throat. “Because I locked it.”

Elias grumbles something under this breath and knocks on the door. “Come on man, open up. I swear I won’t look at your junk, won’t even sneak a peek, promises, but I really need to piss. Like badly. I might piss out of my eyes if I don’t release it as soon as possible.”

I can only imagine how funny Elias looks right now. The stoic, uncaring man, begging to be let inside the bathroom while holding onto his ability to hold it in for his dear life.

While I know I could enjoy his misery for just a little longer, I’m not that evil. That’s exactly why I disclose that there’s another bathroom he can use - one I saw in the bedroom.

“I might piss myself before I get there, come on bug, let me in. I won’t fucking look, just let me in,” he insists.

“You’ll definitely wet yourself if you keep standing there, asking to be let in, while knowing full well that it won’t happen. I’m taking a bath, I deserve some privacy while I do.”

“Don’t be a mean asshole,” he growls.

“Don’t be one yourself. I don’t want to get out of the water just to let you in. Use the other bathroom and let me be for a bit.”

Eventually, Elias accepts the defeat and walks away. I actually relish the sound of his brothers laughing at him. Is it bad I imagine him looking like someone just kicked his puppy?

Perhaps, but they all have been menaces so I can have a tiny payback.

As the laughter dies down and I don’t hear their voices anymore, I let out a sigh of relief, drop the towel and get inside the bath.

Possibly, I take too much time enjoying myself, but no one can blame me for that. I can’t remember the last time I have felt this relaxed, so it’s natural that I’m trying to prolong the moment.

Even Sam is happy about the moment I’m enjoying. Heck, she’s not whining and demanding the company of her mates wither, which is an enormous win in my books.

When the water turns cold, my sink wrinkles and my lips turn blue, I still don’t want to get out of the bath. At one point, I even considered sleeping here as I’m too comfortable to move.

That thought, however, is completely destroyed by a knock on the door. “Ash, are you alright in there?” It’s Ethan.

I let out a breath of frustration and grit my teeth. “I’m fine.”

“You don’t sound fine and you’ve been in there for hours. Are you planning to get out of there anytime soon?” He presses.

“I’ll get out of here when I want to get out,” is my brilliant answer.

Of course, he’s not fine with it. Just like any other Alpha jerk, Ethan insists his way is the only way of doing things. “I’m serious, Ash. I tried to be nice, but if you don’t get your ass out of there anytime soon, I’ll break down this fucking door and help you out. Bet your lips are blue and you’re already freezing your ass off in that bath water since I don’t hear you adding more.”

I roll my eyes. Logic for the victory, right?

Cursing under my breath, I force my body up and get out of the bath. “I’m almost done, give me a moment to get dressed.”

I can hear how spiteful I sound, how pissed off I come across as, but Ethan completely disregards my anger. In fact, I can nearly hear the smirk on his lips as he speaks again. “Good boy. Meet us in the living room, the professor came by and told us what we will learn here based on our abilities.”

I don’t answer him. Deep down, I wish he could see how many times I roll my eyes at him whenever he speaks.

I suppose what pisses me off the most is how friendly Ethan acts. He pretends he hasn’t said the vilest and most disgusting things to me before.

After drying off my body, I take my time to get dressed and brush my teeth, dragging the time, silently hoping they would get tired of waiting for me and just go to bed.

But that’s what it remains as - a silent hope. Stepping out of the bathroom, I head to the living room where all three of them sit on the couch, looking at a piece of paper in front of them.

Ethan notices me approach first. His face breaks out in a stunning, nearly blinding smile and I half hate myself for wanting to despise that smile. He looks so innocent and cute.

No, it has to be the mate bond talking.

It’s not me, it doesn’t sound like me and I would rather be caught dead than think about Ethan like that. I know his true colors, this friendly facade does nothing to hide the beast that resides within him.

“Come sit down with us,” he invites me and moves aside as if I want to sit next to him.

I take great pleasure in rolling my eyes at him as I sit on the couch opposite of them and wait. I don’t say anything - there’s nothing I want to discuss. Just give me the information and let me be at peace.

“Bug, you’re a real fucking brat these days,” Elias grumbles while Everett just laughs and Ethan frowns.

“Whatever. What is important enough to threaten me to get me out of the bath?” As I ask the question, I make sure to hold eye contact with Elias.

He raises an eyebrow, for the first time ever, looking amused. “Now I know what he meant,” he mutters and quickly hides his words by clearing his throat and sliding the paper on the coffee table closer to me. “Here, look at this.”

I grab the paper and scan it. It has our names and ‘houses’ on it. Okay, so, apparently, this school is divided in different houses - each focuses on the strengths of the students.

My eyes dart between the paper and the smug faces across from me. At one point, I can’t take it anymore, so I just groan a weak, “you have to be shitting me.”

All three of them laugh at my misery.

“Serious as ever,” Everett manages to force out. “You’re with the warriors. Ethan is there too. Elias and I, we’re joining the geeks with intelligence. Have fun little Ash, I’m sure it will be nice to get your body smashed against the walls every day.”

If this new twist has taught me anything it’s that this new school is completely different from the Academy.

Back there, we were all doing the same thing while here, they actually sort students by their strengths. Or is it by their weaknesses?

I would believe the latter one as it’s more than clear that Elias and Everett are far more stronger than Ethan and I put together.
