Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 107: Sins
Jeremiah
"So... they lived here?" Duncan asked me, looking at the cave.
"This is a scary place. It makes sense," Asher says, coming closer.
"I know little about these particular demons. There are many in hell; these should not have come to earth, perhaps they fled and ended up here, seeking more power, they must have crawled from safety. Waiting and biding their time," I explain.
"Is that why it happened to Ava?" he asks, and I notice how the tone of his voice changes when he talks about her. There is longing, desire, and something else.
"No, she's different. She's much more powerful, an older demon who was sent to Earth with a specific purpose, mainly to learn what this strange realm, as they call it, is all about. She ended up remaining here, indefinitely. It's one of those strange cases where she got attached to the land and never wanted to go back. Then she met His Majesty and devoted herself to serving him."
"Where did they come from? If they're just some random demons... what was their function?" the Beta asks me very interested.
"These whisperers must have been human with a soul, a long time ago, who ended up in Hell for various sins. They probably not only being tortured but also doing some of the basic functions of the Hell Circles. Hell is full of such demons. Maybe they stopped working, committed a crime, or became more ambitious, we don´t know" I explain as we enter the cave.
The smell of sulfur is palpable, and the sensation is completely different from when we were in Ava's presence. She really had adapted too well to the earthly world, and yet there was something here that reminded me of her, but I didn't understand what it was.
"What are we looking for?" Asher asks me.
"Some feeling or information that tells us something about these beings. Some demons tend to write and hide their names in important places, in case years go by and they forget. That's why a piece of information Ava gave us is so important; in the case of such demons, knowing their name weakens them and at the same time gives them great power to face their enemies. They usually only tell their victims before they kill them"
"But we know Ava's name..." Duncan says.
With Ava, it is different, she has been in the earthly world so much that she has perfectly adapted to its rules; now what weakens her are human emotions themselves, like all of us"
"Human emotions..." Duncan muses and I see a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"Here's something..." Asher says, crouching down, and we see what appear to be roman numerals on the floor of the cave. A lot of numbers.
"It looks like they have been here alone for a long time, waiting. Patiently biding their time... planning their next move until Marco showed up. They must have sensed them, a wolf gathering other wolves to unite against the king. Maybe they offered him power, or told him how to be a hybrid. Maybe they didn't have that much power at the time. Then, for all we know, Randall came all the way out here and must have negotiated with them," I explain.
"Like what?" Asher asks.
"Like doing whatever it takes to get your mate," I answer, and he lets out a low growl that echoes through the cave.
"But they failed then," the Beta says.
"Believe me, they will keep him tied up until they get what they want, which is more power on Earth. Every wolf, man, vampire or rogue that joins their battalions is a soul that they corrupt, and that is how they get more power. I would not be surprised if they already have a physical form and their powers are getting stronger and stronger. Very different from the beings that lived in these caves," I say.
"There's something here," the Beta says, and we approach. There, far in the background, we see him moving a stone and pulling out a piece of paper.
"How did you do that?" asks his Alpha in surprise, for there we had just such a message.
"Ava... came all the way here..." I say in surprise.
The relationship between them is much more than just a crush or a magic spell.
"I don't know, I just felt I had to come here and move this... this smells like her" he answers, holding the paper in his hands and stroking it.
"She knew you were coming, the connection between you is strange but powerful, no doubt," I say, and he hands me the paper and I look at it. He keeps the stone in his hand.
"By the goddess," I say, handing it to them.
"It says that the Whisperers have been banished from Hell for a great offense and have found a place in Earth, and that with each passing moment they are draining life energy from Randall and all who make deals with them. There are plans for an imminent attack on His Majesty, they are calling alphas from all regions to disown the King, they are talking to councils and even other species. She adds that they are paying special attention to Mildred, that we must protect her. And she... Ava, will do awful things, and we must act in concordance..." Duncan read, trembling.
"I don't like this... she's exposing herself, there's a war coming, and we have to turn against Ava! And my mate... goddess... that man will never leave her alone!" Asher exclaims agitated.
"There is no end to their ambition...", Duncan finishes reading.
"What I was dreading..." I say worriedly.
"Ambition... that's what characterizes them. That information is important, isn't it?" asks Asher.
"That's right, I think we know what the sin is that drives these creatures," I say, moving deeper into the cave.
"Greed?"
"Yes... and no. I think that's how they get punished, their sinful souls dragged down to hell by greed. But then, they were taken out of hell and reduced, weakened, beings without bodies. They ended in the last circle of hell: traitors," I explain.
The worst mistake and the greatest condemnation for a being of the dark.
